This was a special event, and the dinner menu is not quite yet solidified, but I want to a) talk about the delicious food, b) the beauty of the inn, and c) the hospitable and friendly staff at the Inn/Restaurant. The Inn itself is beautiful and historic. It's located in the heart of downtown Winston, but has its own parking lot which is a huge plus. Our dinner was in a reserved room on a Friday evening. It was a great room for our group of about 11-12. Our waiter, Gary, was THE BEST! He had a radiant personality, and was super attentive! The chefs (Kelly and Juan) came out to talk to us and were a pleasure. The food! I can't wait for this to be a constant menu at the restaurant! We had Fried Green Tomatoes, Mandarin and Goat Cheese Walnut Salad, Braised Short Rib over polenta dish, and Crème Brûlée cheesecake. YUM! And the drinks were very unique and delicious. The bathrooms in both are nice the suite, another level of comfort. Walk in large shower with a vessel tub within the shower enclosure. Spend the money to have good custom blinds and blackout curtains installed. Give up the free cookies, wine/cheese, etc and make the ROOMS COMFORTABLE!!!! Then the tiles in the bathroom stick up ABOVE the grout, so the edges feel sharp and it is NOT COMFORTABLE to stand on - very cheaply done. The elevator buttons were cracked and the #3 button was TAPED ON!!!! Made me worry about the safety of the elevator. Bathroom floors should be smooth, with the tile INSET into the grout. VERY DISAPPOINTED FOR A HISTORIC HOTEL OF AMERICA, we have stayed at many.

There is a parking deck right beside the hotel but it is city parking, so it is $20 - $25 a day. Plenty of parking though so very convenient. We were able to easily check in - even getting in a little early, and we had a nice spacious room with a delightful view of downtown. The hotel is a little older but it is very clean and all amenities worked as expected. The price was also incredibly affordable. I would recommend staying here if you are in the area. In fact, I will be back in the area in the next week so I booked here again because I liked it so much.

She took $200 from me after telling me she would book a room using her employee discount. The room was never booked, and I never received my money back. I have proof of payment and messages documenting our agreement. I spoke with management about the situation, but I felt my concerns were completely dismissed. I was told that the matter was "personal" and that she was an interim manager. That response was extremely frustrating because I expected the hotel to take a complaint involving one of its employees seriously and investigate it properly. To my knowledge, I am not the only person who has experienced issues like this with her. I was left without a resolution and felt completely disregarded. Guests should be able to trust hotel employees and management to address serious concerns when they are reported. I hope the Downtown Winston-Salem Embassy Suites thoroughly investigates this matter and takes appropriate action so that no one else has a similar experience.

Breakfast was delicious, and we enjoyed talking with the other guests staying at the Inn. Cherie, the innkeeper was a welcoming host and had suggestions for local restaurants and things to do. The Inn is located within Old Salem which has historic homes and buildings that can be toured but they have limited hours due to Covid. The innkeeper, Sherry, is one of the rudest people I have ever met. It just blows my mind that she is allowed to serve in the hospitality industry, because there is nothing about her that makes you feel welcome or appreciated as a guest and paying customer at the inn. This inn is a real treasure and it is a shame that it is being represented with such a negative presence.
