If you want to be so completed infuriated that your ugly side emerges, do business with Colin. Quite frankly, everything mentioned in all of his one star reviews is accurate because I had the same awful, frustrating and horrible experience myself. Just like many of these other reviewers, I came to Colin after our CPA passed away (he bought that book of business). Colin, who is not a CPA, over-promises and grossly under-delivers. If it just stopped at that, it might be tolerable. But he is worse than that. Colin has actually COST our family money, I've found myself with a TAX LIEN since engaging with him and he LIES (yes, lies... as in stating he e-filed our taxes 3 weeks ago when he actually did not -- and yes, I called the IRS and waited for over an hour to definitively find this out). Since I pointed this out to him, he followed up with another glorious and spectacular lie... "There is a processing delay typically for the IRS." Ummm... when you e-file, there is no "processing delay." The only delay was me waiting 3 weeks and then bringing up to Colin that he failed to file on the date he said and he then filed. I asked for the e-file receipt, none received. Gee, wonder why? But seriously, why even lie about it? He could've just said he dropped the ball or something. But lie? It's is so UNETHICAL. If he lies about this, what else would he lie about? The IRS agent I spoke with informed me that I should file Form 14157 which I am going to do. In addition, I intend on filing a complaint with the CTEC (just found out that his registration as a California Registered Tax Preparer expired over 6 months ago on 11/01/19), a BBB complaint... and I am writing his mother, Marilyn Doyle, a note too since he inherited this business from her and is driving it into the ground. She ought to know. Frankly, legal action isn't out of the question. I've never had such a horrible experience in the world of finance and accounting. Stopped by his office today and looks like it's been abandoned for months. He is a total con artist. They also ignored my corporate tax filings and company consolidation request. They did say that everything has been completed and charged for it however it is not true. Colin was my accountant for several years. He gave me a little bit of a shady vibe but he provided guidance and suggestions, was proactive and I was relatively happy with our returns. Something grossly changed this past year and Colin has pretty much vanished. Our 2020 return was a nightmare. It took us months of calling his office, hounding them, begging his team to respond, complete our taxes, address an IRS notice of a missing form, to get any kind of answer. There were nothing but excuses after excuses. Their customer service is horrible. Colin was never heard from. Very suspicious. I don't have a lot of confidence my tax return was even correct. They don't seem to care about customers or their business anymore. I'd say this is a warning for new customers, but they honestly probably won't answer the phone or call you back anyway. In reading these reviews I can only shake my head that other people have gone through the same trauma we have with Mr. Doyle. In March 2019 he gave us copies of our completed Federal and State income tax returns that he would e-file and we paid him handsomely for his service. We were due a refund. A year later the IRS informed us we were delinquent in filing a return for 2018. Then the State told us the same thing. I will skip the specifics of all the falsehoods, runarounds, hollow assurances, misinformation, broken promises, ignored calls, and of Mr. Doyle's overall horrible customer service. After months of frustration, I contacted the IRS for assistance, and an agent finally uncovered that Mr. Doyle had, on his own volition, filed an extension for our returns at 10:30 PM on April 15, 2019. He did not tell us the true story then or even after the IRS reported it missing and we asked for his help. It took me sending paper copies of the returns, supporting documents and letters of explanation of Mr. Doyle's deceit before they closed the case. In August 2020 we finally got our refund. The IRS encouraged us to file a complaint with them about Mr. Doyle. We have not completed that yet, but I wanted to get this review out to warn people before the coming tax season. read more

I was charged a lot to do my S Corp taxes, had to make corrections, I barely got them completed before the March 15 deadline and come to find out he waited 1 month to file them, now I have a $420 penalty. If I were to run my own business, I would want to do it like this. Being a real person who genuinely listens and cares. Someone who will happily invest the time to do a job right. As an update, I consulted with two different CPA firms and both were shocked by what Colin filed for my returns last year. Blatant errors and falsified information is now resulting in me having to file amendments and paying over $20K in penalties. Both CPA firms came to the same conclusion that whoever prepared my previous taxes is not a CPA and very fraudulent. They also recommended legal action since chances are high we will be audited due to his malpractice. He supposedly sold his book of clients to a new firm in Thousand Oaks so he can skip town, but I'm not clear if there is a connection between the two agencies. For the new agency to take delivery of my old supporting paperwork (receipts, W2s etc..) Doyle's office reached out to me and asked that I pay $250 for their efforts to send the documents... Very pissed off. We ended up with this group after our recommended guy died. They did our taxes in no time. I usually get state return money quickly. After a long wait I looked at franchise tax site. They showed no record of our taxes being filed. Tax guy said our tax returns were filed electronically. In the past I never had to double check. We called tax guy and haven't got a call back. You would think the receptionist could easily answer the question and even re submit the taxes. She couldn't even answer a basic question. We then called IRS. After being on hold for an hour we find out the federal tax hasn't been received. So we had to copy both state and federal taxes and snail mail it. I don't trust tax guy to file electronically. We had taxes done two months ago. The person who recommended this guy is having the same issues. Both of us will not return. That office is completely incompetent and almost got us in trouble with IRS because of their f*** up. Extremely pissed off. Do not use Update 8/13/20 Just got a letter from IRS. I'm just going to drop my last email to Colin here. I am Following up on my email and my call this morning, where I tried to make clear that I would be unable to continue working with you based off of the customer service I am receiving, if I do not get the call back until Monday evening that I am now requesting since April. As a response, I still did not get the requested call from you but instead a voicemail from Joe asking for documents from me so you can finalize my tax return. As you have access to my documents since April 4th, apparently no work went into my tax return, else you would have noticed earlier that you are unable to open the documents. So instead of adhering to my wish for a call, your office tries to create facts that would make very it difficult for me to step back from my mandate despite a customer service that I cannot appreciate. I also have no indication that any work went into applying for my ppp loan despite asking about it several times before the deadline and being promised a call back from an Emily(?) - which I also never received. Following this conduct from your office my trust in your work is broken and I am unable to continue working with you. I am very disappointed to say the least. read more

If I could give Colin less then 1 star I would . My previous tax accountant has passed away and Colin took over his books, I trusted that my taxes would be done but that was my mistake ! I was told by Colin that he could do my taxes on the spot . With everything going on with the Corona Virus I decided to do them over the phone and Colin told me he would send me a draft the following day that never happened . I have tried to contact Colins office several times and I've also emailed him several times with no response. The person that answers the front desk has no idea what's going on and is no help at all. It's been two weeks and still no answer to emails or phone calls from Colin. Taxes are due in less than two weeks and I can't even get a phone or email call back very unprofessional. One expects accuracy from an accounting firm, but this one fails to deliver. These guys fail miserably. Every year I file my own extension with a payment, and every year I had to contact them to fix the tax return to include it (and yes they were informed). They sent my business returns to my personal email and vise versa, even after I closed my business. They filed my returns with my old address, even though the returns included the sale of my house. Worst of all, they are impossible to reach on the phone, and fail to return calls, texts and emails. In short they fail with a capital F. Steer clear; rocky shoals ahead! read more

First of all, I never give a negative review. These people however get the prize for incompetence. Unfortunately our tax accountant passed away and this company was recommended for my 2019 tax year. They told me how great they were and how beautiful their office is compared to my last accountant (who was a wizard by the way and did my taxes for 15 years.) This office charged my account three times and I had to make a copy of my bank statement to get all my money refunded. In June of 2021 I get a letter from the Franchise Tax Board. They didn't file my 540. I contacted their office the same day. I have contacted them many, many times since even being told they THINK it was handled by Colin Doyle. Today I received a letter from the Franchise Tax Board proposing taxes, interest, and penalties. Save yourself heartache and go elsewhere. read more
