I was told they do not want to simply do my tax return, they are looking for a much bigger client that owns their own business or is a big baller. I found Jacobs & Jacobs after an online search of local accountants in Thousand Oaks. They had good reviews so I decided to set up a consultation. They set up a phone call with Massimo to help me out with a financial issue related to stock options from my former employer. Massimo has always been an utmost professional - he has listened to all of my concerns, always offering honest and helpful advice. We were able to get my issues with the IRS sorted and we have come back since to continue filing our taxes with him. There was even a follow up bill related to the same issue mentioned before, and Massimo was able to spot an error the IRS made, cutting our amount owed in half! A couple quick notes: I was not paid for, nor did I receive any kind of discount in exchange for this review. I'm a real human and this is actually my firsthand experience! I say this because all these reviews start to sound the same and generally fake over time, but I am an actual real person! After 40 years as a client, I can honestly say that it has been a mistake staying this long with Jacobs and Jacobs CPA's. Back when Gregg Burt worked there it was a top notch organization. Marilyn ran the office with absolute precision and always a kind word. They made you feel like family and you were always treated with the highest respect. Now that they have both retired you cant even get a return phone call. On average their fees went about $100+ every year over the last 4 years. Jason Corey is utterly worthless as a partner. He wont return your calls and or discuss any concerns you have. Which is both unprofessional in addition lacking any respect for their clients. Companies change and sometimes you have to make change. The wife and I have never used an accounting service, but with some recent changes in our lives, marriage, buying a home, and her starting a business, it seemed like time for some professional help. I typically balk at professional help thinking we can do things ourselves, but the risk to reward ratio of having someone who knows tax laws better than myself and the wife looking once a year for a day or so, seemed too great. We live in LA, so why are we using a service out in Ventura? Simple, trust, especially given the sensitive nature of the documents we were handing over. Why so trustful? My wife meet Jason Corey (805-794-2440 or jtcatsc@adelphia.net) while at his previous job and found him to be professional, personable and easy to get along with, mind you, this was a couple years ago, but he left such a good impression she conjured up this name from memory when it came to tax time. So was it worth it? You bet, we have NEVER received so much money back and with so little effort on our end, plus, no worries about doing it right, even when using H&R Block or TurboTax it always felt like we were just going through the motions and not very confidence inspiring. How much did it cost? Depends on you situation, how well you keep records and how much you have going on, either way I'd call for an estimate, it couldn't hurt. Jason said next year would cost even less because he had given us some tips on what to keep, how to track stuff, etc.. which cuts down on time, and time is money, as in they charge by the hour.
