It was last Sunday, the folks called, 'Annie we are on our way we decided to surprise you for Sunday dinner.' Which translates as, 'Annie we are on our way to snoop around your apartment and to see if you care enough to cook us Sunday dinner.' I woke with my pillow stuck to my hungover face when the text woke me. Stuffing the party paraphernalia of the night before in the washing machine in haze whilst sleeping bodies twitched at my feet. Once the clean up was done, the dinner panic ensued, this butchers signage welcomed me in. Once the butchers stopped laughing at me, they picked out the best cut of meat to cut in a hurry, they even told me the best temperature to put it at. Best of all they are cheap, I'm all about the cheap. The result was the folks loved it and believe that I am a well adjusted adult.

Well, the latter was obviously a joke but I loved it nonetheless and the fact that this place is so close to my house. For 3 rump steaks and 2 chicken breasts I paid a tenner and left happy and with a promise to return soon.

I can just imagine them having the mega LOLs with the local Grannies. There's a sense of community when you walk into this butcher. That may sound odd but this is the feeling I remember as a kid walking into local butchers with my Mam around Stoneybatter and Cabra. The array of meat on offer is amazing. They have lots of deals with mix n' match products that are freshly prepared and wrapped in foil trays ready for the oven of regular packs of other meats for frying or grilling. BUT the main reason I come here? Their SAUSAGES! [and by that I mean their own brand breakfast sausage.] Best god damn sausages in the whole entire world in my opinion. I have even bought gifts of these sausages for presents for people living on the south side. Yes you heard me. I bought a pound of sausages as a gift. That's how good they are. I buy them every weekend. So if you are lucky enough to purchase sausages from here I recommend heading across to Clarke's bakery across the street and buy some still warm fresh bread to make a mountains of sausie sambos!

In addition to their inciting selection of meats, (they do have a selection of fish in the back if you ask) their staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I visit this butcher weekly and have established a great rapport with the butcher staff. They recognize me before I'm even through the door, engaging in small talk. They are willing to go the extra mile, separately packaging meat per your request, dicing beef or chicken, stuffing pork roasts and providing sauces for your meats at no extra cost. If I ever have any questions of how to prepare, how long to cook, what sides pair well, they always take the time to help and answer any questions that I have. Additionally, they have a link from their website on easy meals to prepare using different types of meat they offer. They have a wide range of cuts of beef, pork, lamb and styles of chicken as well as some less common meats such as duck and quail. They have many accompaniments available in the shop as well so you can pick up your entire meal in one spot. I have signed up for their rewards card and I receive texts off them on a weekly basis informing me of all of the weekly specials. Not only is Etherson's Butchers the best butcher around, the quality of the meat for the low prices they charge far surpass anything else that is out there!

That sense of responisibility soon dissipated when I realised how deadly this place is, and the real reason for me going here, is not obligation, but because I want to. Why? Because: - It's cheap! Cheap as chips! I bought all the veg I needed for three days of juicing for just under 12 eurits. Those three days if you bought them from someone will cost ya 70. And from Tesco, probably 30. - They have everything. I have never gone in here and they haven't had what I needed - Everything is fresh, and a lot is sourced from Ireland - The owners are legends. They'll always round down the total, or give you a discount if they think the item isn't fresh enough. Nice bitta banter as well. - It's closer than Tesco. (Ok this doesn't apply to everyone but it does to me, so feck it) And it's also right next to another amazing local butcher. So there you are, all your stuff, locally sorted, for half the price, and a bit of banter thrown in the mix. Can't say better than that can ya?
