This halal shop stocks a lot of dry and tinned exotics that I've come to love...black rice and coconut milk, various pulses in massive bags and spices of every warming shade. The prices are right, the selection is varied and that shop front of bright, crisp ingredients. While there are a few ethnic groceries in the area to choose from, I'm drawn into Spice of LIfe as a respite from brown bananas and pitted aubergines stocking the stalls just at this shop's doorstep.

There are constantly long queues at the checkout. Usually only one register is open with a huge line of people waiting. Sometimes there are two, but only when it's extremely busy. The staff often seem gloomy and unwelcoming, and the whole place looks messy and unpleasant. In general, Lidl seems to be getting worse and worse. Other supermarkets now have self-checkouts that also allow you to pay with cash, which makes life much easier. Here, you often can't do that, which is frustrating--especially when you want to send your child to buy something and give them cash. Honestly, I can't stand this store anymore--neither this one in Bray nor any other Lidl. The only reason I still end up here sometimes is because Aldi doesn't have the same bakery selection. If they did, my foot would never step inside any Lidl again.

they're *literally* across the [i hesitate to call it a] road from my house and i never go there. i…read moreknow this isn't the best way to start off a review, but bear with me. it's mostly that fundamentally i'm the laziest person on the planet when it comes to leaving my house to eat during the middle of the day. plus, thanks to the brainwashing provided by my naturopathy college, i've been led to believe sandwiches (nay, bread) are evil. so i don't go there often. but the couple of times i *have* ventured the 25 feet from my front door, i haven't been disappointed. also this morning i discovered that they do breakfast on weekdays! this is like the most exciting news i've had all week (but well, it's only wednesday) because now i can just go over there for my fried stuff in the morning :) hehe. i can't drink coffee cuz it hates me (in soviet russia, coffee drink you) so i have to stick to tea which makes coffee shop type places far less appealing to me. but i am very happy they serve food and i know i will be going over there a lot more often (in my pjyamas or bathrobe) to get breakfast now that i know they have it. and it's good.
