Unfortunately, their business model has changed from "honest and hardworking" to "opaque and manipulative." The Technical Issues: In 2020, Santa Air installed my trane system but failed to properly connect the emergency heat strips. I spent five winters wondering why my house wouldn't stay warm below 30°F. They missed this mistake during every subsequent maintenance visit over the 5 years. Recently, they tried to charge me $1,700 for repairs I didn't need. A second opinion confirmed their diagnosis was wrong; that technician fixed Santa Air's original installation mistake and the actual sensor issue for a total of $575. The Billing Issues: Their current pricing "tiers" (Bronze, Silver, Gold) are incredibly over-inflated compared to other local HVAC companies. And if you only need a repair included in the Gold tier, you have to pay for all the things you don't need in the tiers below it. When I realized the invoice was vague and the work wasn't needed, I cancelled. The Ethics Issue: The most disappointing part was the office's response. They tried to emotionally guilt-trip me. They held my refund hostage, telling me they would only return my money if I removed my negative reviews. I refused to be coerced and had to fight for three months through my bank to recover the funds for services never rendered. Charles, the owner, was recommended to me by our HVAC guy Tri South Mechanical, who are exceptional, and I was pretty confident these would be the right guys. I was told they are the best in the business. Charles got back to me right away. He gave me a super great deal, which included several services at a great price. When he explained their approach and what they do, I liked them best as compared to other companies. Some just use high pressure and no brush to clean out the ducts, for example. His guys were a tad bit early which is preferred to being late, and they called to let me know. They were very thorough, answered all of our questions, added bonus is that they were kind and in good spirits. They took the time to show me faulty boot connections in all of the lines in our entire upstairs. They let us know it would be in our best interest to fix bc air was escaping and unfiltered air was getting through. I asked them to clean my dryer vent out on the spot. He let me know that on the outside it looked new and may not need cleaning, but that the actual line may be old so he'd clean it just in case. If nothing came out he wouldn't charge me, and if it ended up being bad it would be a good thing he cleaned it. Well of course it was bad and it WAS a very good thing he cleaned it out... he ended up not charging me. I appreciate the honesty and the gesture! I gained some wisdom to help me take care of our system, which I always appreciate. They are definitely our go to guys and I will be recommending them to everyone.
