I happened to set up my tent near Dan on my 7th night, and he introduced himself and his daughter and we started chatting about hiking. I told them about my ankle pain, not knowing he was a doctor, Dan quickly asked if he could do an exam, diagnosed the problem as a strained posterior tibial tendon caused by my zero drop shoes. He gave me a lot of anti-inflammatory medication, told me to soak my ankles in the cold streams regularly, and to get boots or insoles. I followed his advice, found some insoles, and within a few days my pain was gone. I'm so grateful for Dan and his daughter for helping me! Truly changed my entire trip. I went and saw him yesterday and he was great. I had seen another podiatrist but he didn't give me anything on my current podiatry issues and said I was fine. I showed Dr. Vallone my feet and he knew right away what issues I had and has put me on the path to recovery. I really enjoyed his bedside manner as well as his knowledge. I had a bunionectomy 35 yrs ago when I was 35 years old…read more I was in pain for almost a year, and couldn't wear anything but tennis shoes ( I was an executive at the time, my boss thought I was milking it a bit) when the same foot, 30 plus years later started hurting again, I thought, oh my gosh, I can't go thru this again, the pain is too much at 67, I am very active however, walk 5 miles every day so I was referred to Dr. Berenter. My 1st question was "has this surgery changed in 30 plus years? AND told him my story", his reply was "no, but you will not be in that kind of pain, if much at all"! Max 2 weeks in a boot and then back into shoes. Well, I wanted to believe him but really didn't. I have had a number of surgeries in my 70 years, and this is the only one I remember like it was yesterday. I knew I had to proceed, low and behold I don't even think I took 1 pain pill. In a week I told him I was ready to get back to my life and he said, "not so fast, you need to wear the boot at least another week, so you don't mess up what I did". Oh darn! I did and have never had a problem since. He also saw my left foot, as it too had a big bunion, but said, "until you are in pain", let's leave it alone. 3 years later, I am now in pain (it's not a pain you forget). I went to see Dr. Berenter and said it's time. He x-rays my foot and says, let's book it. I am going in next week for my surgery and not concerned a bit because I know he is the best and have referred many people to him in my senior community. The only thing that would be better is if his office was up in our neck of the woods. LOL

Fortunately or unfortunately, I haven't had to see him too many times becuase his advice about wearing different shoe types for different functions allowed my heel to heal and I haven't needed him as much. Two things, be ready to wait half an hour regardless. The last appointment I missed because my daughter was in the car with my dog in the parking garage below the building which was worrying me, and had to get to her own doctor's appointment. The parking at this building is absolutely awful, by the way. But, once you've gone through the parking and the wait, i think you're in the best care possible for your foot issues.

Went to an orthopedic who told me I needed surgery. Then, I went to Dr. Longobardi who quickly diagnosed the problem as fat pad atrophy. He told me about a new procedure called Leneva that is minimally invasive and likely to solve the problem. He injected me, had to use crutches for a month, now it feels amazing. His bed-side manner is superior as he gave me hope that I wasn't going to have to live in pain. I wish every doctor were like him.
