After getting my nostril pierced I wanted to buy a hoop for my other nostril that was already pierced. I told them I wanted a snug fit. Well they put on one that was massive and I told them I didn't want it. The lady then said that I had to buy it anyways even thought it wasn't what I had asked for. The funny thing is they have specialized cleaning equipment there so they easily could have sterilized it and returned it to the display anyways. Or they could've just given me a hoop that fit, idk. Let me start by saying this facilty was super clean and organized!! Had a tattoo done a few years back. Been super unhappy with it since. Paid for a consult with the artist to draw a design in advance. When the day came the picture was not what 100% what I wanted. When I expressed my displeasure with the design I was told to just "trust" him and his vision. I felt pressured to take the design offered like I couldn't say no.... That was my mistake!! It was in my foot and I was laying on my back for most of it. I noticed it was taking a really long time and asked for a break so I could see it. To my surprise the line work was super thick and resembled strips of leather. When I saw the original design I had no idea the Intension was to fully colour in these thick spaces with black ink. I would have never agreed to this. By this point most of the line spaces were coloured in and there was no going back. Also at the consult I was quoted approximately $250/ 1.5-2 hours ish. This day ended up being nearly 3 hours & much more expensive then quoted and then I was told I needed a second date for colour and shading. I booked the appt, made the deposit then after some thought decided I hated this design and never went back... I have had other tattoos since and all the artists look at this tattoo and are shocked that this was done by an experienced artist. Now looking to have most of it removed.... Long story short..... say NO if your not happy and do not feel pressured f you do not like their design!! Don't make the same mistake I did! read more

Our tattoo artist let us stay with each other in the room (they have private rooms which is nice because most places are pretty open) for support. He talked each of us through everything and it went really well. My friend got really light headed after her tattoo was done so he laid her down and got her some water. He kept an eye on her and stayed with us until she was feeling better. It was nice. The place is clean and professional. It's probably the best known tattoo shop in Edmonton so it should be. We had a great experience at Dragon FX in West Edmonton Mall. My wife got a small tattoo on her forearm just with some text. We had Sarah as our tattoo artist and she was fantastic. She came recommended for any kind of text or writing. She also does great work for larger artwork. The facility is really clean and bright and puts first time tattooers at ease. It's also really nice that they do a less expensive touch up for you 6 months down the road to make sure it keeps looking great. She even touched up an earlier tattoo of hers at the same time so we got the most value out of the appointment! So impressed with the customer service. I wasn't planning on leaving a review, but I will in the event that it is a wake-up call for the Kingsway location. I booked in advance a tattoo and a couple piercings; the booking went well: I had a time for the tattoo and an assurance that it would be no problem getting the piercings done immediately afterward as the day was wide-open. This appointment was confirmed 2 days before the date I was to get the work done. I was never informed of a specific time for my piercing appointment. I showed up 30 minutes early; instead of doing the intake and maybe getting piercings done first, I was simply told to come back in 30 minutes. At intake, one girl asked me to fill out a pile of forms and seemed unaware what I was getting done, which I reiterated. Once the paperwork was complete, all staff disappeared to the break room, leaving me alone in lobby while they talked in the back. When it came time for my appointment, the stencil wasn't ready; in fact, the image for it was lost and we had to search for it again. The first 30 minutes, I paid for the tattoo artist to do the pre-work in the break room while the staff pretended I wasn't there. As soon as I went into the private room to do the tattoo, you could hear a staff member loudly commenting on my appearance. Once my tattoo was completed, I waited for staff to take me to get my piercings done. I was informed that I missed the piercing appointment, the time of which I was never told, that the day was completely booked up (despite the place being empty), and thank you for my understanding. Without an actual time being communicated in advance, it is tough to know that I did miss my piercing appointment, but if I consider the entire experience with the staff, I feel I was denied service. Great changes w.r.t. customer service need to occur with this location as they are rude beyond belief. I will not be going back, and I will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

This is a big shop with many Tattoo Artists, Piercers and friendly front staff. The shop is clean with private rooms for each artist. It's located by Galaxy Land, so you will hear the odd scream every now and then! A $100 non-refundable deposit is required for an appointment, if you are booking for a larger piece that will take a full day then it will be a 50% deposit. If you feel spontaneous they do take walk-ins too. Touch ups are available for free with $30-$35 set up fee and are offered within 3 months. You must bring photo ID for all services! I followed my tattoo artist Matt here. I recently stopped in for a small tattoo. Monday and Tuesday evenings are usually a easy time to walk-in or to book on a short notice. My nostril piercing came out almost 10 years ago, and I never got it re-done, despite whining about it constantly. Yesterday I finally decided to just walk in and get it done. The only reason that the rating is 4 stars and not 5 is because of the first staff member who helped me. I didn't catch her name, and I'm not sure what her position is... but I'm thinking she's the receptionist because she was at the front desk the whole time. She greeted us and showed us the jewellery I could choose from (but didn't write it down correctly, because the piercer had to ask me what I wanted anyway), then she handed me the forms to fill out. I filled them out, but she was busy with somebody else by then, so I waited... Michelle (the piercer) came out and chatted with me while she entered all the information I had filled out. She was great. Very friendly, very informative. She seems to really know her stuff. Once she got all the info she needed, we headed to the back. There again, she was very friendly and informative. She made sure that I had all the information that I needed about what to expect and all the aftercare instructions, but still made me feel really at ease and calm. And just like that... it was all over. Very little pain, and a big smile on my face. read more

They're alright. I feel that they're too over glorified when it comes to professional piercing places. They seem to be a tiny bit picky when it comes to piercing, they've declined me some piercings due to the area or the skin or the scar tissue, but other professional studios who are just as highly regarded have done them perfectly for me. As a result, I've never been able to get pierced by them. I've gotten the piercings from other places and they've healed just fine over the months and years, which is confusing. read more

Dragon FX is a pretty fancy place to get a piercing or tattoo. It's certainly not like getting pierced at Claire's by a 16 year old or in a seedy shop by a toothless guy with a needle and a potato. It's spacious and nicely decorated. They have a nice selection of jewelry, including wood and bone pieces. I got a standard ear lobe piercing. I had to wait a little longer than they said, but the whole process was fairly quick. Everything was very clean and I saw the needles still in the package before they took them out. The piercing service wasn't expensive, but the jewelry was. My earrings were $45 each, but they only had 2 colours to chose from that day. Overall, I was happy with my experience and my piercing hasn't given me any problems. I would definitely go back! Edit: I've changed my rating from 4 stars to 2 stars. I spoke too soon about not having any problems with my piercing...about 5 or 6 months after my piercing, I developed a cyst on one ear lobe and a keloid on the other. I thought it was due to my skin or how I was taking care of it, but I've gotten another lobe piercing in a different shop since, which has healed perfectly. I do appreciate the convenience of their Simple Care after care spray, though. read more

While Dragon FX sometimes gets a bad rap in the tattoo piercing world. My experience there was good. I received my first tattoo from an artist that is no longer there but she was great an answered all my questions and made me feel totally comfortable. The shop is clean and they are strict about hygiene (no other shop has made me wash my hands before getting tattooed). A lot of great artists got their start at Dragon FX and I don't think people realize that so like with all tattoos do your homework on the artist before hand. read more

I got my third tattoo done here, and by far was the best service and work I've ever seen. My artist, bless his soul, was required to do a lot of detail work and with a lot of colors, AND in a very irritable place. He was very polite and seemed well-centered, and very comfortable with doing my requested work. He let me know constantly that I was doing great, which helped a lot. Another thing I enjoyed was the private rooms, and the ability to be accompanied by a friend. The rates are a tad expensive, but good work ain't cheap and cheap work ain't good. You get what you pay for. For my tattoo I ended up spending about three hundred, which is about standard for anywhere in West Edmonton Mall. They do require a $105 down-payment when you book your appointment, and a $15 charge for supplies, which I was happy to pay. Once your tattoo is finished, they deduct $100 (your down-payment, minus tax) from your overall total. As for piercings, I'm sorry to say that I wasn't such a big fan of that. I had my snakebites redone and although the piercer was well equipped, sanitary, knew what she was doing and polite, I ended up swallowing both pieces of jewelry. They now use a 3 piece jewelery for lip piercing - while in concept, is a great idea (because you can interchange the middle piece to downsize cheaper and easier when it heals) but I found that the pieces came apart too often, and usually when I was sleeping. While sometimes I was able to get them back in, it was difficult to maneuver, and the threading on the jewelry was quick to misalign. Often I would have to take them out all together to reassemble the jewelry, and by the time I gave up on them, the threading was completely gone on one of them. If Dragon FX had different jewelry, I would definitely consider going back there. As for tattoos, I still believe that they are a very talented bunch of artists, and I will be going back for sure. read more

I got both of my nipples pierced by Rachel Dancer and it was an extremely great experience. She took the time to answer all my questions and explained all the aftercare in great detail. I did initially want them horizontal but she explained due to my anatomy that doing them horizontally they could migrate and become diagonal anyway. She made it very clear that she could do the horizontal if that's what I wanted. I'd recommend her to anybody looking to get any piercing as I've had her pierce my nose and belly button. The only thing that would've made my experience better is if they had more jewelry options in store but they did offer me the option of ordering some in. read more

I'm so happy I went with Dragon FX, I got my belly button pierced by Maddy in west Ed. I ended up having a folding belly button and couldn't get a regular piercing, however she showed me floating belly button piercing options and I still went with it. I feel like a lot of places would give you the wrong piercing for your body for a profit so I really appreciated her honesty about my situation. I recently went to Dragon FX for my very first tattoo. It started with a consultation and some basic information. The artist I choose is Chantelle she specializes in animals. My next visit was to get the tattoo it self the facilities are bright, clean and filled with friendly staff. My tattoo is simply beautiful I love it! Chantelle prepared me the most painful parts as she worked on me.. Over all however the pain was minimal. The ink she used is vegan based with no nasty metals in it. The cost was very reasonable in comparison to what other places wanted to charge me. My tattoo is a custom piece based on a picture she found and barely fits under my t-shirt sleeve so it is a big one. It only took her three hours! I got lucky on the time frame admittedly as she prepared me for a four hour session. I was charged only for the three hours and not her set up time. read more

I obtained two piercings here and will not be returning. I was impressed by the cleanliness and staff attitude when I went here both times, but the piercing results were less than desirable. My first piercing here was a helix in my left ear. I did not touch or play with the piercing in any way shape or form after it was done. (I'd had piercings before this one and was well-researched as far as general body modifications go before going to this studio.) My ear was swollen and purple in color by the end of the night. After a few days, the state had not changed. I saw my doctor and well, you can guess that it was infected! I gave them another chance, thinking maybe I did something I wasn't aware of to cause the infection. This time, I got my daith bridge pierced (on the same ear). This was months after the helix was done, but somehow during the piercing procedure they managed to irritate the helix enough that it swelled up pretty badly. It had not swelled up like that at any point during the healing (post-antibiotics). The daith bridge was well-positioned and looked good. However, a year later, it was still bleeding, and had developed a hypertrophic scar. I went to another piercing studio and they commented that the diameter of the jewelry was much to small for the area. I changed the jewelry, and within two weeks the bleeding stopped. Soon afterwards the scar went away as well, and it healed up very nicely after that. I have had piercings since then at a different studio without complication. Based on these two experiences, I just can't trust this studio. read more

I wouldn't recommend this studio. While it is clean and professional, the piercers only seem to know half of what they're doing. My younger sister went and got her nose pierced here, and while initially the piercing was good, they used a nostril screw, which is a bad piece of jewellery to use. Screws notoriously stretch and tear the skin giving it a higher risk of infection and migration. My sister had to permanently remover her nostril piercing because of this. I got my helix pierced here. However, the jewellery they used was a ring and not a stud. Helix piercings should be pierced with a stud to prevent rubbing and irritation which can lead to infections and hypertrophic scars. But I was younger and I didn't know. The piercing initially went well. However, it quickly got infected (if I rolled over in my sleep, the ring would rub and get irritated...or when I brushed my hair or if I was at the hair dresser, my ring would constantly get caught). It also began forming a red bumb (hypertrophic scar). I went back to get it checked out, they said it was fine, and I just needed to place the piercing under warm water more often. While warm water temporarily soothed the piercing, it did nothing to help. I eventually removed it because a little over a year after I had gotten it done, it still wasn't fully healed or getting better. I went to Strange City, and showed them. They shook their heads and told me stories about how many Dragon FX botches they fix. I also had a few friends get tattoos at Dragon FX. All were poorly done (sloppy, bad art, etc), and all have gotten them fixed at better tattoo shops. I think Dragon FX is a great place to get pierced if you're wanting just your lobes, anything beyond that, I would go to a more experienced studio who has the knowledge to do so. I think most people go to Dragon FX are young, who don't know better, and just like the convenience of it being in the mall. read more

They are rude and seem like they do not want to be there or keep customers happy. I went in for a simple insert, told I would be seen in 5 minutes and an hour later, the girl says oh there was someone before me and the previous appointment took longer than expected (excuses). I would not recommend dragon FX as your first choice for tattoos and piercings. I've had both done and they have both been awful experiences for me. I decided to get my 4th tattoo done here in memory of my dogs that passed away. Yes the shop is clean and the artist was nice but I could tell she was very new at it. She was shaking the entire time. Which had me very skeptical. But then a few months later my tattoo became extremely itchy and was not healing normally. I went to another tattoo shop and the artist said the girl was pushing too hard into my skin and the ink went too deep. I have tried many things to help with the dry itchy tattoo and still to this day (almost a year later) it is not fully healed. And with my piercing that I recently had done. I have never dealt with such a rude and mean person before. I was getting my belly pierced for the second time. I had it pierced 3-4 years ago, and I had to take it out when I was in the hospital getting tests done (i had just gotten it pierced) she asked me why I took it out in the first place in a pretty snarky attitude. And then she made me fill out the forms and wait. Then she brought me back to the room and asked me to lift my shirt up and put my hands by my side and relax (the usual routine) then she looked at me and told me she wasn't going to recommend me get this piercing because when I sit down you won't even see my belly button (which in my books she was calling me chubby and saying it won't look good, just for the record I'm 5'3, 120lbs And I am very active. I'm pretty sure a lot of people have a bit of an over hang when they sit down. And she wasn't a twig either. ) so I ignored her comment and told her I would still like to have it pierced. She told me it probably won't heal, and if it does it will take 8-9 months. I stayed with my previous comment and got it pierced. I was polite and said thank you and still gave her a tip. When I paid she didn't include the healing spray and I asked her if I could buy the spray as well. And she told me it would be pointless because my piercing isn't going to heal. I bought my spray and left. I went to another shop after ward and had someone look at my piercing and they cleaned it and said they don't see anything wrong that could effect the healing process. I don't know why that girl had to be so rude and mean. Definitely ruined my day when i just got myself new body jewelry! read more

I found this place on a trip to WEM and was pleased to see they sell BVLA jewelry. I had the peircing previously done but didn't know my ring size. One of the piercers was quickly able to determine my size and put in a new ring for me (BVLA14k rose gold seamless ring). After I left I noticed that it had been damaged by the pliers. As I understand this is not uncommon with softer metal jewelry. In my case it was made further challenging due to the fact my peircing is so high up in my nose, making it hard to put in without slipping. I emailed management about my concern. They got back to me immediately and asked me to come in and they would switch it out, which I did. I really appreciated the prompt and excellent customer service. read more

Anyone who knows anything about tattoos and piercings, or is into that scene at all, knows very well that Dragon FX has one of the worst reputations in Edmonton. The have inexperienced employees and their work is of consistently bad quality. Two of my friends had tattoos done here and they are terrible. I have had many piercings done before, but the two I had done at Dragon FX had to be removed. I'm not sure if this was due to poor technique or cheap jewelry, probably both. Dragon FX does not use the best method for microdermal implants; better and more efficient methods have become the standard everywhere else. Being the impulsive person that I am, I have twice gone to Dragon FX to have a tattoo done. Both times this was a split second decision and I was fully aware of Dragon FX's horrible reputation. Both tattoos were very simple designs, almost impossible to screw up. I figured even Dragon FX could get them right. The first one came out terrible, and I only went back a second time because I thought the design could not be any more simplistic, no one could mess this one up. Needless to say I now have two awful tattoos for the rest of my life. Do not listen to the other reviews on this site; those people clearly do not know anything about tattoos. These uninformed people only consider Dragon FX a good shop because of its location in West Edmonton Mall. This location has allowed the shop to become well known to those who do not follow the local tattoo scene, and are not exposed to real tattoo shops. These customers seem happy, but it is only because they do not know any better. I am not only speaking from mine and my friends personal experiences. This shop has an awful reputation; they are known for the terrible work they do. Do not ever, under any circumstance, subject yourself to the horrors at Dragon FX, this will only leave you scarred for life. I got a labret piercing here awhile ago. The girl did a great job, and was very clean and professional. About a year later, my bf scheduled a tattoo with one of the artists. (His name rhymes with rod) We left a $40 deposit for the drawing and never heard from him again. He wouldn't reply to our emails, or our phone messages. Every time we went in, he was 'always' in an appointment and couldn't talk to us. So obviously the most professional person around. Get your piercings done here, not tattoos. read more

Got my second tattoo here yesterday. So pleased with the entire studio's friendliness and professionalism. Tod has over 26 years of tattooing experience and did a tiny, delicate shoulder piece for me. For those who don't know (and I didn't) tiny pieces can sometimes be way more challenging for the artist because any little mistake is very noticeable. He did fantastic work and was very direct with his feedback about my design. I've been intimidated by other tattoo places before, but Tod was very welcoming but also didn't baby me which was awesome. Bobby, the person who I consulted with and made my appointment, was also really genuine in reassuring me - I have a low pain tolerance and was really dramatic during my first tattoo. The studio was clean and relaxed and they have rooms in the back for those who might want more privacy. Coming here was definitely a great choice - will def be back! read more

Got a tattoo done a few months ago. Gave them a call and emailed them the design. Went to the place and got it adjusted a bit and was out in an hour or so. Friendly staff considering it was my first time. Willing to answer all questions and their base rate was a little bit higher than other places I research but worth it. First time getting a facial piercing and decided to get my nose done. Caleigh Bell-Morena was absolutely amazing! She went through everything and made me feel relaxed. I was pretty nervous because of my fear of needles but she made me feel like I was just sitting and talking with a friend. I got my tragus pierced here back in February. The piercing is nearly fully healed now. Everything was clean and the piercer and receptionist were super friendly. A few months ago, my piercing got really swollen and the back of the jewelry got pushed into my ear. I had to go back to get it pushed out but they were helpful and got my piercing out. My sister also got her medusa and labret done here and they both healed perfectly. The only thing that's kind of iffy is that they don't have a wide selection of jewelry and a lot of the time, they make you come back because they don't have it in stock. read more

I came in this place hoping to get an industrial piercing and was rudely denied. I asked the man who said I can't get it why, because I didn't know that your ear has to be shaped a certain way. (Which I'm well aware of now, after going to a much better place.) I' give it to ya, this place has really pretty jewellery. That's no denial. Even though my tattoo turned gray (was originally all black) I went back for my second tattoo and a free "re-do" of the first tattoo. The second tattoo, as well as the re- inked first tattoo, didn't last 6 months before again turning gray. I'm going for a third tattoo but it won't be here. I'm going to a different shop to have them re-ink the work done here. =( read more

He worked so hard on the detailing and took a bunch of different things into consideration while we decided on the best possible placement for my tattoo. I got my nostril pierced by Cody and he did an awesome job! I had one pre existing nostril piercing and wanted one on the opposite side lining up to match. He really took his time to mark where we were putting it and let me take a look and have some input so it was perfect. He made me very comfortable and was sure to go over the piercing process, cleaning, and aftercare process with me in detail even though I've been pierced many times before. The piercing itself is healing lovely so far and it lines up perfectly. The jewelry they carry is high quality - which is nice since low quality metals tend to give me a reaction, and don't shine nearly as long. Super clean - everything was taken out sterile and in its packaging and ready to go for me. As much negativity as I've heard about this place, I've never had an issue with them. read more

I had my first tattoo completed at Dragon FX. The artist was a novice, but the establishment should not have let him tattoo yet. He ended up really traumatizing my skin and I had to comeback to get one of the so called "veterans" to fix it up. This place was a joke from the poor professionalism of noise, yelling, rude comments and general stupidity of the artists.
