Liliana is the best Spanish teacher I've ever had…read more I came to Liliana after working with a previous Spanish teacher for about 1.5 years. My previous teacher failed me in many ways, but the biggest way was the fact that after 1.5 years of intensive classes and studying (which I had to hugely supplement on my own) I still couldn't speak Spanish. I could translate it, in reading and writing, but I couldn't conversate in it (not unless I'd created scripts and memorized them to make them second nature). I couldn't actually COMMUNICATE in it. Which is exactly why I started Spanish classes in the first place! Among many other things, my previous teacher's perfectionism got in the way of how one naturally and completely learns a new language - which Liliana rectified and I will go into more detail later. Here are the bits of pure gold one gets when working with Liliana (please note: I was very well versed in Spanish grammar and vocabulary before I started with her - I was not starting from scratch): 1. Omg, she's so much fun. She creates characters and tells stories and sings songs and helps you play in Spanish. She brings Spanish off of the pages of the books and homework of your average Spanish teacher and she turns it into this vibrant, fun and memorable experiences one would normally get when living abroad. 2. She focuses on verbs. Verbs are the backbone of any language and she helps you figure out shorts cuts when conjugating new moods and tenses you may have not learned yet. ALSO, if you are traveling and simply use the infinitive of the verb you don't know conjugations for, native Spanish speakers will still be able to understand you! 3. Immersion. This is my ultimate favorite part of Liliana's classes. After the first class or two (and possibly depending on the level you are at when you come in) she speaks to you the entire time in Spanish. It's full immersion. You will be taping each lesson with her and listening to it in between each class and it's pure gold and here's why: she's using the language as it's actually spoken and how it will be spoken to you! You can hear how she uses the verbs and their tenses and moods, how she structures her sentences and her thoughts, and the biggest one: getting comfortable hearing yourself as: tú or usted or ustedes - this is huge purely based on the fact that if you're learning the language from books and homework, you're missing the conversationally reciprocal aspect of the language (and you're almost only thinking in yo.) Liliana has an extensive background in how people learn languages (she used to teach for many years in a top university in Argentina!) and she really makes learning Spanish a fun and successful experience. In about 1.5 months she helped me rewire my Spanish brain to think differently and feel differently about the language and improved my speaking ability and comfort 100%! I can't wait to keep working with her and to see where I'll be in a full years time!

I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences of my life. Madame Rasmussen is so engaging and fun to be around. She has loads of energy and a wonderful presence. Her lessons are interspersed with anecdotes, and she shares a lot of lifestyle information; this is by no means text-book learning. I loved listening to her CDs and found the holistic approach so much easier to grasp. As other reviewers have noted, she will take care to review any points you are struggling with, until you can get them right. I learned more of the French language with her in 4 lessons than I had in 2 years of college training. Unfortunately, my job took me away from the LA area, but I look forward to the day when I can resume lessons with Madame Rasmussen again!

I initially only wanted to learn a few phrases and words to get me through my first weeklong trip to Rio de Janeiro. But Gisele's accessible, relatable teaching style and her passion for language had me interested in becoming fluent before I ever set foot in Rio, and so I continued taking lessons with her for almost three years. I felt I made faster progress with Gisele than in any previous attempts at learning new languages, because of how early on she engages her students in conversation and teaches you to use what you know practically from the very start. So even before you have an extensive vocabulary or a knowledge of verb tenses, you're able to communicate at least a little almost immediately. Her classes also immerse you in the culture of Brazil, which is essential for understanding the subtleties of the language, like figures of speech or slang. By my second visit to Brazil last year, I was able to communicate effectively without any English, and even surprised a few people when they found out I was, in fact, a gringa. My explanation was simply that I had the best possible Portuguese teacher! I would recommend her to anyone traveling to Brazil, dating/married to a Brazilian, or just interested to learn a beautiful new language.

I attribute this to the Civics/Citizenship, and Character Ed. curriculum, and overall atmosphere. The diverse groups blend together quite well in this nurturing community. From what I have experienced, students love the cultural and learning opportunities offered to them. The bilingual education keeps them on their toes, building their confidence in learning, and social connections. I also have observed that the bilingual education sharpens their language, writing and speaking skills in English classes. The beautiful fig tree, from over a hundred years ago, gives a canopy and center point to the campus, as children run and play around it. Many smiles and laughter take place at the Le Lycée. Drama is also offered, and theater productions in grade 4 and 5 draw a large lively cast. A lovely highlight is the Music Department, which brings light and cheer to the campus with the bilingual choir, concert productions, and MS/HS bands. Physical education takes place on campus with a spacious sports complex and swimming pool. The elementary campus is one integral step of the K-12 experience, offering students a chance to develop on as many as six different campuses. Students value the journey from PS to grade 12 and develop steadfastness, reaching a valuable pinnacle of unique fulfillment. The fruition stands out.
