I exchanged reais to Argentinian pesos today and the rate was very poor. :( I haven't exchanged US dollars to reais lately but maybe that's the only good rate they offer? read more

R$ is the notation for their currency called 'real' or 'reais' for plural. At the current rate the fee equaled to about $7.60 or so. Keep in my that your own bank may charge a fee as well. I was just happy to have some local currency in hand. I am also happy that it's just a few blocks from where I'm staying. I'm sure I'll come back for another withdrawal again before I leave.

It was a blessing to have a secure place to withdraw money, especially since it displayed the conversion rate before dispensing cash--no surprises! Despite the common warnings about safety at night, I personally felt totally fine, even though someone was sleeping in a sleeping bag inside. Overall, a convenient and reliable spot when you need cash in Brazil!

Yelp Review 2025 #195:…read more A domestic airport connecting Rio to different parts of Brazil. It's a smaller airport but it's super close to the heart of Rio. From Lapa, it only takes about 15 minutes to get to Santos Dumont Airport. The only irritating part I've experienced here was nobody seems to be able to help me at the ticketing office and check-in counter at LATAM to get an upgrade. Their app won't let me upgrade after multiple attempts so I decided, I'll do it in person. But nope, they're not helpful. Aside from that, I liked flying out of this airport. It has a shopping area and a hotel connected to the airport. Starbucks is on the same floor as the check-in counters before security. There's a McDonald's and a bunch of Brazilian eateries. There are shops you can get gifts, souvenirs, coffee, chocolate, toys, etc. The best part is its proximity to Sugarloaf Mountain. You can see it as you're taxiing on the runway, at takeoff/ landing.

Then our friend showed up and told us to go outside right around the corner from the airport and there was a little mall, that was fun. I WOULD go back.
