We only had a short period of time to eat before visiting the Christmas market there in the square and then heading to our next destination. This was recommended by our tour guide. I liked the immediate warmth and welcoming feel of the restaurant when you first walk in. The first section is decorated in dark wood and dark red vinyl (leather look) with lots of memorabilia hanging on the walls. We were sat at a small 2-person booth which was cozy but fairly spacious. Our server was very enthusiastic and helpful with our menu selections. There was a lot to choose from and it's fairly overpriced but because of the location, I was prepared for that. It was cold out so I ordered the mushroom soup to start with and I can't get enough of the European Schnitzel so I had that for an entree. The soup was warm and filling. Nothing to really note about - it was a solid taste and satisfying. The schnitzel was very good. Also not unique but I wasn't looking for a unique dish when it came to schnitzel so I was very happy with it. You are served what you expect and that's good. It's a nicely located restaurant with basic German options, albeit a bit overpriced. The service was excellent as well. While there are lots of choices to return to, at least we know if we are in a rush and we want some good food, we know this is available. read more

Wonderful location on a beautiful plaza with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. An extensive menu offering a variety of drinks, coffee, tea and meal selections. We stopped here for a coffee and a snack at the start of our visit to Dresden after arriving on the train. It was a great place to regroup and plan out our day as the staff did not rush you to leave nor do you get the feeling like you have to be in a hurry to make your table available for the next patron. This was an excellent find in Dresden. It's near the more touristy area, and so there is a bit of a tourist vibe to the atmosphere...but not in a kitschy, irksome way, more in a welcoming way (which I, as a tourist, appreciated). Food and beers were top notch. Dishes we tried (sorry, cannot recall names--in German, though there were descriptions of most in English as well) were all exceptional, especially for lunch service, and were reasonably priced. Perfectly tender, braised lamb; a pork knuckle, goulash-like dish that was likewise tender and flavorful; and what I can best describe as a pork pot pie, with tender chunks of pork in sauce, topped with cheese...no idea what to expect when I ordered it, but well worth it!). Washed down with a refreshing Radler. Service was very friendly, but in the European fashion, not in a hurry to turn tables, so if you need something quick for catch your tour group or whatnot, be sure to let them know (everything was served quickly, they're just happy to let you enjoy and aren't coming every five minutes to push the check on you). read more

Solid choice for reasonable prices, especially given its location in the central platz. Full beer, wine, drinks list. Good German food, from sausages, lamb shank, schnitzel, all of it was just what we expected. The beer bread appetizer was also very good. Menus were in German on the left and English on the right, so made it easy to order. Staff was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. read more

Another Tourist Trap :( Warm beer, no flavor Schnitzel with frozen chips .. service was also just like taste of the food. I am not sure because I am a foreigner in Dresden. They rang up the bill adding their own tip (it's ok .. they only added about 15% and I would still leave more than 15% anyway) but if you are foreigner, please check the bill to avoid double tipping for "Meh" food and service here. They won't deserve 30%+ tips that's for sure. read more

2.5 stars. In the middle of Neumarkt, I can't help but to notice an unusually narrow building amongst the others. This narrow building houses Dresden 1900, and after seeing a "cake-and-coffee" special for 3.90 EUR, we went in to take a break from the cold weather. We thought the restaurant would be long and narrow, but we discovered that not only does the back of the restaurant get bigger but also houses the city's "oldest preserved tramcar." Not surprisingly, the decor is everything tram-related. Others might enjoy it, but I found it a little tacky. Our service was lukewarm at best, but our basic order of the special and a latte macchiato did come quick enough. Unfortunately, the cake was small, cold, and somewhat soggy. At least the coffee and latte macchiato were warm and comforting to drink. With a Dresden City Card, one is entitled to a free "Schaffnertrunk," a shot of schnapps served in a train conductor's cap. While charming, it wasn't easy drinking out of the cap. read more

I love this restaurant! It is located on the Neumarkt and pretty touristy with interior decor of the 1900 Dresden. Their food was very good and they had the BEST apple pie I've ever had! With your Dresden Welcome Card, you could also get a free drink of captain's cap, which wasn't my cup of tea but was interesting to try. read more

Zero stars for their ridiculous water policy. Basically you can't bring your own water bottle. The food is okay, nothing to brag about.

Very delicious. We ate lunch there after visiting the Church. We ordered the Batzen (a delicious pork roast with potatoes and sauerkraut with bacon). We decided to split it. We also ordered the apple strudel, which was amazing. Great ambience, sitting in the shade with a slight breeze and a view of the church. Very kind waitress who spoke English. read more

This spot is very centrally located next to the Frauenkirche in Dresden historic centrum. We went here on a Sunday noon to grab the breakfast buffet but missed it by a few minutes, thus had to pay 16,50€ per person for brunch, an extended breakfast with full lunch buffet, instead of the targeted 9,90€ Anyhow, we made the deal. Positively, is the ambience, all made up to be a jugendstil (1900ad) tram station and interior. The personnel is very friendly and local. There was a piano player who entertained us with subtle lounge music all the time, and a lady drawing postcard aquarells at a elevated table. Very unique. The buffet was standard, nothing too exciting. The coffee very good, agreed. What we missed is any juice as part of the buffet. You have to order (and pay) separately all other beverages besides tea and coffee. There has been no cakes or pastries, we found that a little bit disappointing for the price. The lunch buffet was diverse enough but not exciting. Fish, meat and the typical unexciting sides. A little bit for dessert like fruits and pudding creme. All at all, the menu has been a little disappointing for us and is more tailor made for the conveniant tourist passing by, at least thats my feeling. Generally a good spot. The food was good, but the reason this didn't get a higher rating was because of the customer service. The waitress was a bit rude to my father, who admittedly didn't speak German and so there was frustration there, and she took his food before he was done eating it. She never came by to check-in on us, and not once asked how we liked our meal. I understand a level of frustration at dealing with tourists... except that in this case, the restaurant's primary customer base are tourists! Food was great, giving you a selection of old German food, and then a "New" menu for those less food adventurous. Despite my customer service problem, its still worth a drop in. read more

To us a very disappointing visit. My wife's Sauerbraten was nothing special, overlooked and the dumplings were tasteless - the best part was the cabbage. My Lachs was accompanied by beans and was at best meddling. The service was extremely sluggish and the atmosphere was "kitschig" and not in a touristy sense. The breakfast was inedible. Nothing was fresh, the few trays of low quality produce was rarely refilled. No fresh fruit beyond unwashed apples in a bowl. This restaurant is designed to be reminiscent of an old-time trolley, down to the uniforms of the waitstaff. There's even a guy dressed up like the trolley engineer. Around 12:30 he rang a bell and gave a little show which seemed to be geared towards children and old people. I only understood a word here and there. The show's over now, and there's a pianist playing old standards like "As Time Goes By" and "La Vie en Rose". The food was delicious but like most places I've eaten in Germany, a little expensive for what I got. I ordered the brunch buffet for 12.9 €. The selection was fine but didn't blow me away. 3.5 stars for the food, 4.5 stars for the ambiance = 4 stars. read more

While the location is great, centrally located across from the Frauenkirche, I will not step inside again. My friend and I stopped in for lunch after looking at the menus outside. They had the menus in several languages and we were pleased to see one in English. Once inside two different employees passed by without acknowledging us, we continued to wait and were finally seated. Our server brought us menus and abruptly walked away, we realized too late that they were in German and attempted to get her attention to ask for the English version. She snapped at us and asked us to be patient. We had been in this restaurant about 10 - 15 minutes at this point. When she finally came to ask what we wanted, we asked if would be possible to get the English version menu. She grabbed the menus from us and walked off, she made an "uggggh" sound then came back and slammed the menus down on the table. We thanked her and were a bit shocked at how we'd been treated so far. We had been in Dresden for several months and have had nothing but great friendly service. At this point we agreed that it would be best to just leave rather than endure more of the same. While I can't comment on the food, the service was the worst I've experienced in such a short time. read more
