I took the EMT course through the Drexel College of Medicine and I loved it! No joke, I had the best experience with the instructors. Jamie Teufel and Bubba Hamilton were my instructors for the summer 2016 course, and they were super helpful. When it comes to learning the material, it is definitely a joint effort. Jamie and Bubba do literally everything they can to make sure that we are clear on the information, and anything that they are unsure of, they look up and get back to us on. Obviously, it is a decent amount of work, since we are learning to save lives, but classes are enjoyable and very helpful. Teaching techniques include general lecture of the material as well as simulation activities to further reiterate information. I just passed my the NREMT skills practical exam, and I felt very prepared for it. The additional instructors are seriously so helpful, and everyone sincerely wants you to succeed and become a competent EMT. Jamie and Bubba both really know their stuff. Loads of experience and stories to share, and it makes the class more interesting, which definitely aided in my educational experience. In terms of the financial aspect of the course, Drexel students get a pretty decent discount (!!!). Personally, I couldn't make the payment in full at the beginning of the course. They were super flexible when it came to my payment. I paid less than half of it at the beginning of the class, and literally made the last payment on the last day of the class. Seriously, so long as you pay before the practical exam, then they have no problem. They are very understanding and accommodating, which made my life worlds easier. Overall, I had a wildly positive experience with this program. Everyone involved in the program is very respectful and outgoing, which makes the class environment relaxed but educational. Excellent place to go to obtain an EMT certification as well as learn street skills and tips on the side. Definitely going to keep in touch with Jamie and Bubba, because they are such genuinely nice individuals. Wouldn't change my decision in any way. read more

I took the EMT-B program with the Department of Emergency Medicine and could not possibly have had a better experience. I left not only with the skills needed to obtain my certification, but with the support of a fantastic group of EMS professionals who became like a second family to me over the duration of the course. The course follows the NREMT training guidelines and was kept stringently up-to-date with new protocols, so rest assured that you will leave with the skills to handle any emergency situation you may find yourself in. The training is split between in-person lectures and online skill reviews, with a couple of in-depth skill drilling days as the exam (!!) draws nearer. That said, this is the basic format that I would expect from any high-quality EMT-B course. What makes the Drexel program stand head and shoulders above the rest is the people who teach it. My course was taught by Jamie Teufel, who to this day remains one of my favorite instructors I have ever had, in any discipline. His genuine passion for EMS combined with his unwavering dedication to the success of his students made the class not just a requirement, but an absolute pleasure to take. Personally invested in each member of the class, he guided us through the convoluted process (get it together, NREMT and PADOH -- you're killing a small forest with the number of forms we have to fill out) with a seemingly endless supply of patience and knowledge. I could not more highly recommend that anyone interested in becoming a certified EMT take their course through the Drexel University College of Medicine -- as long as Jamie is there, and you're willing to do the legwork, I guarantee it will be one of the best experiences of your life. Having no knowledge of medicine as a mechanical engineer, I took the EMT-B class here a bit over a year and a half ago, and couldn't recommend it more. The class sizes where small and the instruction was in depth. Jaime Teufel, the head instructor, drew from his many years of experience as a paramedic and applied it to virtually every topic taught during the course. Throughout the program, other medical staff from the department guest taught certain topics that they were passionate about. Getting insight from these additional experts helped us further understand the mindset and knowledge needed to excel at the NREMT test as well as in the field. There was also plenty of time to get hands on experience with the equipment that we would be using as an EMT. There was a day during the course where we focused on performing trauma assessments outdoors while utilizing different types of vehicles. This gave us real world scenarios that are typically not gone over in most EMT-B classes. After completing the course, I took both the written and the psychomotor portion of the NREMT-B exam. I completed the psychomotor portion as though I had been performing the skills for years. I also completed and passed the written exam (a computer exam at a testing site) only having to answer the minimum number of questions. I have been applying these skills as medical coordinator at my NROTC unit during field exercises and have found that I am more knowledgeable than prior Navy Corpsman in many aspects of trauma and virtually all facets of non-trauma (medical). read more

Jamie Teufel was my instructor for the EMT course at DUCOM and I have nothing but positive reviews for him. The EMT class I was in met 2 times per week for 4 hours , which I was initially not a fan of but Jamie made the classes interesting and fun while still being productive. I felt extremely prepared for the National Exams and Practical as his class exams and activities were extremely similar. Jamie was easily accessible via email or phone to answer any questions that I had about the coursework or National Exams. He often allowed us to come in prior to class to practice/study if we felt we needed help. I passed the National exam and I am now an EMT at Drexel Univeristy and local EMS department and I have aspirations to be a physician assistant. Over the course of 5 months we got to know each other , as well as my other classmates, very well and I asked him to write me a letter of rec for graduate school and without hesitation he said yes. This shows that he is invested in his students overall education and not just at the time of the class he is teaching. I was enrolled in Drexel University College of Medicine's EMT course June-November 2016 and while it was a long, 17 week course, it flew by. It was so much fun and I met a wonderful group of friends through it. The instructors were extremely helpful and knowledgeable in the field and always tried to make class fun. Jamie and Bubba, along with the various other instructors that teach us throughout the course so everything they can to help us succeed, but it definitely takes good time management skills and a lot of studying to succeed in the class. However, it is very easy-going and the instructors do not hesitate to help if you are struggling. Before signing up, I was dreading the long Sunday skills days, but they were always super fun and went by quickly, as we were learning new things and practicing our skills. I feel that the instructors prepared me well for the practical psychomotor exam and the national registry written exam. All of the instructors truly want you to succeed in the class and in this career path and are extremely supportive. I took the EMT class in the spring of 2016 and loved it. I'm a 4th grade teacher and had no medical background whatsoever so I was very concerned that I wouldn't be a good fit for the program or it would be too difficult for me. But Jamie and Bubba's pacing and outline of the course made it manageable for me. It can be challenging and you need to be prepared to set aside the time to read the chapters, but other than that it's pretty straightforward. Jamie and Bubba will go above and beyond to help you. They REALLY want you to succeed and they genuinely care. They both have great senses of humor and can make the material fun. There would also be other "instructors" (medics, doctors, etc) that would come in on certain days to assist with activities and they were very helpful as well. It was really beneficial that just a few floors below our class was Hahnemann hospital and we could go down there and it really gave us an inside look to what we were learning about. I started their EMT program around the end of August 2017 and finished December 2017. One of the best experiences ever. All of the instructors were great and friendly! They ALL are well educated BEYOND the curriculum. Jamie was very helpful and understanding of every situation you may have been having during the course as well! He works with you, and made sure everyone understood the information we were going over since it we only had 17 weeks to go over the entire curriculum. When Jamie says you'll all be pro's by the time you have to take the Psychomotor Exam, BELIEVE HIM. Nerves may get to you, but you'll know it all! A lot of us didn't realize how much we actually knew, because we second guessed ourselves. Without second guessing, I was able to pass the Pearson Vue exam and obtain my EMT certification! Cant tell you enough good thing about this program. I started in the fall semester of 2017 for the EMT-B Hybrid course. Jamie the lead instructor was awesome in helping me to register for class and get through all the prerequisites ie. PA background check and the ICS series. The set up of the class was awesome we could choose a day that worked for us either Monday or Wednesday. I online portions were easy to complete and had a lot of information. The practical skills days were fun and knowledgeable, with more then enough instructors most days it was a 1 instructor to 4/5 student ratio. Took the EMT-B program here. This is an NREMT compliant hybrid program mostly composed of on-site instruction. The instructors are actual EMS professionals(Paramedics) who also instruct Emergency Room MDs and skilled medical staff. The program is fairly rigid as it follows the NREMT training protocol, but the instruction is a bit more in depth. I was very well prepared to pass the NREMT practical and written and to the extend I can know, I did well. While I got along well with the instructors, they were notably patient, and invested in helping everyone be as prepared as possible, some in their own unique way.
