Drinks at the bar are reasonably priced but take-out bottles and cans are cheaper elsewhere, but I think this is the only choice in highlands for purchasing booze to go. People who work here and guests are friendly. Average customer age is probably around 45. read more

Had been looking to go to the Driftwood since my daughters were little kids. They are now both 21+ and we were visiting friends in the area over Memorial Day Weekend and we decided to go. It was great, actually. Of course it is a modest establishment attached to a liquor store, so it's a dive bar, but in a good way. We were served by Jennifer who was very nice and funny and made our visit more enjoyable. Look, the Driftwood is what it is. Dive Alert! A liquor store bar combo in the Highlands. L shaped bar with a few TVs and a small dart board game room. The local guys at the bar look like staples who are fun and welcoming. This place is just full of ssloppy drunks hanging inside and out side ... dirty gross interior .. been here a few times . Stopped by today but decided to grab coffee next door before I went in to buy my alcohol.. owner came out and started to accost and yell at me for parking in the lot saying he just called to tow us ... crazy how no one els was parked out side and we were going to be customers ... not a community friendly business, can't wait to see them close ..... read more

It's hard, but you have to love this place. I smile and do a lowered shake of the head everytime I walk out of this place. Never had I seen a liquor store/bar before I moved to Central Jersey. It's a fairly small place, so you don't have a ton of options, but they have a few varieties of all the hard liquors and a fridge in the back with beer. I go here because it's my closest option, not because I like going. I've never sat at the bar and never will. Not that I'm calling the clientele trashy, but there's something to say about people drunk at the local liquor store/bar at 11am in dirty cut off jeans. read more

Stopped by to pick up some beer for the beach at Sandy Hook. Well, there selection was typical Jersey Shore rubbish and they didnt even have Carton Brewing available for purchase. Carton Brewing is the local beer right in Highlands! The only 'microbrew' available was Sam Adams so we opted for the Oktoberfest. This was also quite pricy at almost 10$ with tax. Really depressing scene inside with a pay for play pool table, bar, and liquor store. As another yelper mentioned, this was the first combined bar/liquor store I have seen in NJ. read more

Bar/liquor/beer/wine. I've seen the small bar packed at 9am in the morning, which is the only reason it gets two stars. If for some reason I wanted booze in the morning, I take some tiny amount of comfort knowing I could find it here. Poor beer selection, bad cider selection, average liquor selection. $15 credit card minimum. It's totally worth the extra ten minutes to go to Gateway Liquor. read more

LOVE the owner... Can't STAND one of the female bartenders..trashy, rude, inconsiderate, and petty. It's a convenient place if you're looking for a quick cocktail at a great price, but when the female bartender is working( nights, usually ), try to avoid it. read more

Super old establishment which shows its age. We went there because it's the closest and cheapest ice in highlands, NJ. The have a variety or beer wine and other spirits. Locally owned and run we were happy to support this locally owned relic. read more

It is the closest bar/ liquor store to gravelly point. You can buy liquor and massive amounts of beer there. At least since Mulligans closed down that I used to buy beer at when I was a meat teenager. But they have a full bar inside with plenty of drunks hanging out at all times of the day. You can hear stories of days gone by that's for sure. I guess you just have to be here to appreciate the driftwood bar n liquor store. read more

If you are looking to spend your hard earned money on watered down faux brand liquor, flat tap beer and shotty service then the Driftwood is the spot to go. With the exception of a few local staples who hang at the bar, hard working, salt-of-the-earth types, the company leaves a lot to be desired. The bartenders are rude and short-tempered. It was actually at the Driftwood where I saw my first-ever crack pipe. It belonged to one of the bartenders. Perhaps I'm sheltered but I honestly have no problems with the fact that I'd never seen a crack pipe before patronizing this dive. And the owner is the worst of all. You will never be treated as a valued patron, only a means of lining her pockets. There are 200+ restaurants and bars in the town of Highlands. I recommend finding an alternative watering hole.
