My concern was their door-to-door marketing. As I said before, a representative came to my door and asked me if I would be interested in a roof inspection. The reason was that there was a recent windstorm (and she showed me a past weather report for my neighborhood showing a wind speed greater than 55 mph., which is the definition of a wind storm). She explained that if the roof had been damaged by a hurricane, there would be a large deductible, but if the roof is damaged by a wind storm, the deductible is much smaller. I was initially curious, and allowed her to go up on the roof. She brought back photos that she said confirmed damage. She said that her roofing company would handle all the correspondence with my insurance company, and that I would get a replacement for my 12-year old roof. I said I would think about it. I asked two other roof compainies for an inspection, and both of them said that there was no evidence that the roof needed to be replaced. One company said that the lowest six lines of shingles adjacent to the flat roof over the lanai could be replaced for loss of many of the roofing granules from foot traffic. Based on this, I decided to not replace the roof. The thought of a new roof with only a low deductible payment is might initially be attractive, but the insurance company will likely get their money back in the long run by raising my rate for making a claim. Further, it seems unethical to me. I will raise my rating from 1star to 2 star to acknowledge that the owner called me to explain things from his point of view. However, I would advise persons to be cautious of this door-to-door windstorm pitch.

They're skillful, thorough, competitively priced, and make customer care the most important part of the process. Showalter went above-and-beyond in helping my parents after Hurricane Michael in October 2018. They are fully licensed and insured to accomplish every task, and have earned the trust and confidence of everyone in our family. They're transparent with every task and provide realistic expectations so there are no surprises (remidiation, restoration, permits, gov't inspections, etc). We did multiple searches for help all around the region. We looked at price, location, reviews, specialty, and Showalter was consistently near the top of every search. We contacted a few companies for estimates for the dry-out / saturation mitigation, demo, roof work, and reconstruction, and Showalter was the only company that had all the right credentials for every part of the restoration. They're the only ones that were available in a reasonable time, and they were clear about their techniques and their limitations. Robert arrived to assess the damage to the house & property a couple days after we called them. He impressed us by communicating consistently and answering ALL our questions over the span of many hours including a conference telephone call with family and contractor friends. Though he had other clients, he made my parents and our whole family, feel like we were his only concern. He literally sat in the backyard fielding every question as if we were his only client. Robert took the time to explain the whole claims process from start to finish in terms that every could understand. He explained how his services are applied within that whole process, and the details that are rarely discussed like the mental stress my parents should expect to face at times. Only after he was sure we understood the concept of each step did he discuss the finances of the process. Robert was not pushy, rather he was realistic with the payment of the project as another step in the process. His goal was obvious; to ensure my parents understood the operation as a whole and ensured he had their trust and comfort with the process regardless of whomever did the work. He spoke on a peronal level and identified evidence-based results and experiential moments, he never insulted their competition or make any sort of derogatory remarks about anybody. After a traumatic event like this hurricane, Robert Showalter's assessment proved to be as therapeutic for my parents as his work is efficient. Showalter and his team made a great effort to communicate and provide rational and reasonable expectations. There were no surprises; some of the matters that arose were already discussed as possibilities (sea wall, pipes, etc). The entire crew Showalter brings are some of the most professional people I've ever encountered. Their team worked so competently & diligently that the process seemed to be quicker than previously imagined, which is great because the sooner the house is fixed the better! Other companies were vague or ambiguous with their process and pricing, and public records now show many of those companies were simply a shady practice wishing to steal people's money in a time or crisis. The Showalter Team is transparent; everything they communicated has been proven true, and they were honest every step of the way.

Truly a team effort, Thea was diligent in working to secure the funds from the insurance company to start the work. Robert listened to our requests, answered all of our questions and set realistic expectations for the job. We were after a very specific flooring, an extra long plank LVP in a very specific tone, and Carrie delivered on locating the perfect product for our home. Upon arrival and throughout the duration of the job, Victor and his team were professional and exact in their work. Not only did they deliver an incredible final product, but Victor, Juan, Jeremiah and James were polite and patient with our family and dog as we in and out of their workspace. Everyone who comes in our home mentions how incredible everything looks. This team did not cut a single corner and worked to make every last piece of flooring, baseboard and trim they installed look complete and pristine. It is a testament to the standards this company holds. When Robert said he would work to make our house whole again, he truly meant it. Not a day goes by when we don't take a moment to look at our home and feel thanks for Robert and his team. Five Star Posted Just a horrible experience. Please look at…read morethe 1 and 2 star reviews. The vast majority of those other experiences align VERY closely with mine. Read those reviews before you decide on Five Star. I wish I had. On to the horror story... I wanted both powered fans (I already owned these) and also ridge vent in case of a power outage. They installed the fans but no ridge vent. They also didn't refund me or my insurance when they hauled off all that unused ridge vent. The fans aren't even installed properly because they're partially covered by plywood and 2x4s. Why would they even install it there? See picture. They pounded the drip edge on so hard that it dented the fascia and left a black spot. They left tire marks in my driveway and nails that I'm still picking up 3 months later. They screwed up my kitchen lights by dropping stuff into my attic and damaging the cans. See picture. On about May 7 (only a couple days after installation), I called to tell Robert about these issues and he said he'd have it fixed. He didn't. On May 17, I texted Robert for a wind mitigation recommendation AND I thought it would jog his memory about the driveway and drip edge. No response. Five Star called demanding payment and I said the job wasn't done. She told me she'd get someone on it. She didn't. Time passed and some snotty rude manager named Justin Ely called demanding payment a week or so later. I said the job wasn't done. He must have contacted Robert for details because a FULL MONTH LATER, Robert finally responded to that May 17 text on June 18. We'll get there soon. After listening to Justinand his condescending nonsense, I wanted to be done with these people and their incompetence, poor communication, awful follow-up, horrendous accounting, greedy attitude, the damage, and simple misunderstandings being blown completely out of proportion. To avoid Justin, I told Robert in the attached text that I was very unhappy and offered to handle everything myself if he'd just take off $1500 from this $30,000 insurance job that was obviously inflated. I have 3 out of pocket quotes that range from $16-$24k. This message was sent at about noon. Robert didn't respond at all. I called the next morning at about 10AM. No answer. 8 or 9 hours later, he had still not responded and I called the office. When Robert finally called back, he informed me that they double charged me for permits and extra decking. So they're demanding payment with snotty Justin and they don't even have their numbers right. Robert said he shared my text and then got Justin in on a 3 way call. I told Justin I was disgusted with all of this and mentioned the $1500 to just be done, give a good review, and I'd pay immediately. He got all upset, accused me of extortion, and threatened to sue me if I withheld payment. Justin told me his only goal is to make money. He asked if I ever give up any of my commissions and laughed when I said it's only happened twice in 25 years, but I will absolutely do right by my client even if it costs me money. Customer satisfaction is so much more important than mine. He then told me he'd also sue me if I told my neighbor about this. My neighbor signed up for a $30K roof on my recommendation. Seems like a good reason to try to make a me happy! On top of that, I'm also a Realtor who gets asked for contractor recommendations VERY routinely. If my roofer hadn't retired, I wouldn't have been calling Five Star. Now, I just remind the other 397 Realtors at my office that they should not be recommending or using Five Star. In the end, I got excuses and a $100 wind mitigation report out of them. They got a bunch of free material for another job. And I had to repair my own drip edge, fascia, lights, fans, and driveway. I'm so glad to be done with Justin's rollercoaster of incompetence and foul language. Until Justin got involved (after the text I posted), it was completely salvageable and polite. He's the problem. We had a major interior flood in our home in early 9/2021. Our insurance company gave us several…read morechoices on how to oversee the subsequent claim and we choose their option of a 'Single-Point-Of-Contact-Contractor' who in turn would manage the repair and restoration from "A" -to- "Z." That company is Gulf Coast Restoration & Construction/GCR&C (http://www.gcrcinc.com). We had four flooring areas in our home that was damaged, and we elected to replace the wood flooring and carpet areas with tile. After the tile was installed the base boards that were torn out needed to be replaced and whatever walls they were attached to require to be repaired and painted. GCR&C sub-contracted with Infinity General Contracting, LLC from Clearwater, FL whose Manager, Mr. Mark Lavelle personally took the assignment. Of particular note, Mr. James Vaughn, who is the assigned Project Manager for GCR&C has two sub-contractors he uses for this type of work and the originally assigned company, just before the work was to start had an emergency and could not do the work; Mr. Vaughn personally conferred with Mr. Lavelle and despite our location not being in the area Mr. Lavelle normally works, agreed to the 1.5 hour daily commute/one-way in order to get our project and our home back to what it was the day before the flood. There is a saying from my childhood where in my mother was noted to be a "Jack of All Trades and Master of None;" well, Mr. Mark T. Lavelle is a "Jack of Many Trades and a Master of All of Them"! As a licensed General Contractor and working in the industry since he was thirteen years old his experience is vast, and his work ethic is nothing like we have ever seen before, and I include my 30-years in the oil/gas industry. Furthermore, Mr. Lavelle was to have another team member with him but due to circumstances beyond his control the team member was unavailable, instead of delaying the required work Mr. Lavelle took on the task single handedly. Knowing it was going to take up to 4-days to complete Mr. Lavelle planned it so that the furniture was moved to the middle, everything removed from the walls to include electrical coverings, and then he started painting. Usually you see a lot of "taping" but Mr. Lavelle's skill set is so way beyond that requirement - to put it bluntly, Mr. Lavelle is not a painter but an artist, I have never seen anyone do what he can do and there is no mess, there was no spilt paint, there was no requirement to wipe paint up off of the newly installed tile, and there was no waste of paint; which was important because we upgraded to the best Sherman Williams had to offer. As he moved through the damaged areas Mr. Lavelle noticed areas that had additional damage from the mitigation work that was done and addressed those areas to ensure they were made right. Of note, he advised us that two of the solid wood cabinets that were installed in 2014 were improperly installed and were close to collapsing, which allowed us to remove and save from destruction antique/non-replaceable dishware. Furthermore, Mr. Lavelle showed us what was wrong and what the installing company needs to do to fix the problem. Mr. Lavelle accurate measuring skills made the baseboards look fantastic to include customizing a large mirror wall baseboard coupled with the quick installation. Mr. Lavelle recognized the medical issue my wife suffers from coupled with my physical limitations and recommended getting a professional cleaner in our home given the excessive dust that was created by the mitigation efforts, the removal of the wood floors, the removal of the carpets, and installing the tile floors. We made the request, received approval, and it turned out that Ms. Sandra Lavelle is a professional cleaner. Like her husband, a true perfectionist in her work. When Sandra was finished it did not look like the same house; the bar mirror and two chandeliers have never looked so good, the wood on the sofas, chairs, end tables, China cabinet, hutch, and antique desk has the deep, clean wood appearance and simply stated, when Sandra was finished, the house looked great! The bottom line, while our interior flood in early September caused extreme havoc in our home, because Mr. Vaughn of GCR&C has access to consummate professionals like Mr. Mark Lavelle and Ms. Sandra Lavelle who did an outstanding job on getting our house better than it was before the flood we now will be able to celebrate the upcoming holiday season in the comfort of our own home. We have 3-rooms that were not affected by the flood, and one requires a modification and all three need to be painted in order to be inline with the rest of the house; we are contracting with Mr. Mark Lavelle's company to make the house perfect and that is happening because we have access to Professionals who not only work as you would expect Professionals to work but who also have and show the attitude that our house is their house when they are here to make it better than it was!

Kielty Plumbing, Heating & Cooling was a positive one -- but unfortunately, it was far from it. I needed to coordinate a plumber for a seller who had already moved out of state to South Carolina. The home is vacant, and we discovered a minor leak in the laundry room near the washer hookup as well as an issue with the main water shut‑off valve. R.J. Kielty came out during the week, gave us a quote, and assured us they'd order the parts and be back on Friday to complete the work. Friday came... and in the middle of the day, we got a call saying the parts weren't in and they wouldn't be out until Monday. That was frustrating, but we waited. When they did finally come out, they only sent the sellers a photo of a small portion of the work they did in the laundry room. When I personally went to the home to inspect, I was shocked. There was a massive hole cut in the laundry room wall -- and in the process of removing the drywall, they had carelessly ripped off large sections of paint. They never disclosed this to the seller, and simply left it that way, knowing full well the home is getting ready to go on the market. When the seller called them, the plumber simply said, "I don't do drywall, there's nothing I can do." No apology, no offer to make it right. As someone who prides herself on connecting clients with trustworthy vendors, I'm incredibly disappointed. Not only was the schedule pushed and communication poor, but the lack of care -- and the fact that they took advantage of the seller being out of state -- is unacceptable. I cannot recommend R.J. Kielty Plumbing, Heating & Cooling after this experience.
