Always wanted to visit this place whoever I pass by on 101 to Eureka. Came on a busy Sunday afternoon, as of Aug 2020, the entrance fee is 10 per car. You have to wait in line to go through the tree and if you think your car might be too big, then there is a side way for you to pass. Our Pacifica minivan had no issue to go through. There is a way you can go around and rejoin the car line if you want to do it again. There is a big grass area for the kids to ran around. Visit the gift shop too if you have time. Very clean bathrooms. Great place to stop. read more

I understand that money is needed to maintain the land but there is a gift shop that I didnt bother looking in because I was under the impression that this was free. It was free, years ago (or, so I heard) but anyways. It was fun going through, had to go very slow and fold my mirrors in, saw some people trying and then backing out, to just go park. Some chainsaw carvings are on the property and they are just jaw-dropping. A beautiful meadow/water hole, occupied by ducks. It may be a tourist trap, but it's a damn beautiful one at that. There is plenty to see in terms of natural beauty (especially tree beauty) around these parts. What makes this particular drive-thru tree special, besides the fact that you can drive through it, is that it's a welcome stopover, especially for families with kids. I new what we were getting into as soon as we paid our $10 entry, but I also enjoyed the delight on my son's face as we narrowly made it through the tree in our SUV. Beyond that there is a large, beautiful meadow with deer and a big pond. Plenty of space for youngsters with ants in their pants to burn off some excess energy while mom and dad relax and enjoy the fresh air. There is a gift shop as well and some other fallen trees around the vast property that are worth exploring. On a whim, as we made our way from Mendocino to Crescent city, we decided to stop at the drive-thru tree attraction. For $10 we were able to take a small, single lane winding path through a forest until reaching the "Drive-Thru Tree". A little cheesy? Yes. But it was very cool to see the inside of a live tree. Very small park. Just think about this poor tree. At some point, someone thought "hey, this tree is big enough to drive a car through." So instead of using basic logic and just driving around this 2,400+ year old child of earth. They busted out a chain saw and cut a hole the size of a car right through the center of it. It's amazing this tree is still standing! The center in hallow going up. I attempted to use a flashlight to see good far up it goes. The light was just absorbed by the darkness. I definitely recommend that you stop here. Just to see how bad us humans are to the planet. It's also a really cool experience which has a limited life. See it while you can! read more

This a fun little tourist stop and spot. I went as a little girl and was excited to bring my boys to visit. The drive-thru tree is ideal for small cars. Many cars are much bigger today than they were when the tree was first carved. We actually watched a van scrape the side of his car trying to fit through. Many people walk and get a picture instead. They have fun carvings in some of the redwoods on the drive in and some where you park so you are able to get pictures. A small crowded gift shop is also there. If you are on the area and enjoying the redwoods it is worth a stop. read more

This is the ultimate tourist attraction and if you're anywhere close you must stop in even if it's out of the way. Located in Leggett, Ca it's a small town in the middle of nowhere and forget about checking in as cell service is almost impossible, I never had it. You drive in and wait in line first to pay then to take your turn driving thru the tree. You'll need to have patience as the line was short when we went and we waited 30 minutes or so. You can fit a pretty big vehicle thru the tree there was a full size Tahoe with off road tires in front of us, it was tight but it fit. We were in a Volkswagen EOS so we had tons of room. Once you go thru you can park and they have a nice little gift shop. I did ding them one star because the men's room was absolutely disgusting. The sewer was backed up and spilled over onto the floor. Still, I highly recommend this as a must see tourist attraction. read more

For a drive thru tree, this is a stellar drive thru tree. Don't expect anything more or less. Beautiful forest area leading up to the Chandelier tree. It may be a little bit of a wait to drive thru because people hold up the line taking photo ops, but that's the whole point. Our big ol' yota made it!! This was our first stop during our Pacific Coast road-trip. At first I wasn't sure our truck would fit through the tree but my husband did what he does best... of course he had to SEND IT! lol. It was a beautiful place with lots of amazing hand carved sculptures. If you haven't visited the Chandler Tree, I definitely recommend it! It's very close the Oregon border so if you feel like taking a little road trip that is a good starting point. It is also not very expensive at only $15 per car to enter. read more

Bathrooms not conducive for young children: I didn't really mind the $15 entrance fee. Like, I get it. We're all trying to make it out here. But if you are traveling with young children and need a changing table? There isn't one. When you're on a road trip with littles, changing tables are so helpful because there isn't a lot of room in the car but we made it work on one of the seats. The bigger problem was the bathroom itself. The stalls are smaller so when you're trying to clean up your toddlers #2 accident, there is no space for you and toddler in the stall. When I started cleaning her, I had to just try and clean her with the stall door open. It's a popular roadside attraction so this quickly became a problem as there are only two stalls and there's very little space. For a paid attraction, I would expect the facilities to be more accessible. read more

The Chandelier Drive Thru Tree is a tourist trap south of the Avenue of the Giants where Hwy 1 meets Hwy 101. For $5 you get to drive through a tree. It's kitchy. It's weird. It's all-American. It was worth it in my opinion. However, the wait can be a while. We waited over 1/2 hour to drive through. There is a woman that guides your car through the tree if it's tight. People get out and take pictures and the line moves pretty slowly. It was a bit annoying but a fun quirky experience. I enjoyed the experience though it was a bit of a rip-off. This place is so cool! BF and I planned to go to the one in Klamath since it appeared to be the most popular and the one that we found with an address. We did a road trip to Seattle two weeks ago for NYE and on our way we saw a sign "drive thru-tree". We got excited and exited towards the tree. The entrance fee is $5, $3 with military ID. This is a good stop if ever doing a road trip to Seattle. Doesn't take up so much time, everyone is very nice and doesn't rush you as they also want to take their time to take pictures as well. There are 3 drive thru-trees, if you're coming from south I think Legget is the first one. Klamath is more up north and if you plan to go to Klamath leave super early depending where you're coming from. read more

1/6/19 We took an unplanned spontaneous trip to Fort Bragg for the weekend and ended up driving along the coast on Highway 1, so we decided to check out the Drive Through Tree. The drive from Fort Bragg to Leggett on Highway 1 was gorgeous. It was an hour and forty five minute drive and it's a bit scary with the narrow and winding road, but the view of the ocean on one side and the gorgeous redwood trees in the mountains on the other were amazing. Definitely worth holding my breath on those narrow scary curves that made my heart drop as I thought our truck could easily fall of the cliff because there are no shoulders. Driving through Westport, we saw two wild elks just chilling on the side of the road. We were able to stop and take a selfie with them. That was pretty cool watching them watching us, lol. Our experience at the Drive Tree Tree was just as cool. These redwood trees are humongous, I tell ya! Although our Dodge Ram didn't fit in the Chandelier Tree (aka the Drive Through Tree) we were able to back into it and take a picture with our truck in front of the tree. The entrance fee is $10 per car which is very affordable for an adventurous day. There's a picnic area, gift shop and clean restrooms for your convenience if you want to just chill and relax in the woods. Awesome experience and I'll definitely go back with my kids! read more

This is a fun place to relax and have a nice time! I pulled up to drive through the tree in my wife's brand new Denali XL. I pulled in the mirrors and lined up the car to go through the tree. My wife, since it's her new car, started to panic, I think she envisioned her brand new Denali getting the paint shaved off the sides of her car and the roof rack getting ripped off the top of the car. People were cheering me on to drive through and I was about to, but realized wedging my wife's car inside of a tree might be an unforgivable act. Cool experience! I chickened out from driving my SUV through the tree but saw someone after me in a slightly larger one squeeze through. They barely fit so I was biting my nails for them... We were watching him slowly maneuver an extra-large, American-made SUV through the wooded tunnel, sons howling in the backseat. The vehicle's roof was barely more than a couple inches from the ceiling and perhaps an inch clearance from the folded-in mirrors on either side. "Well, at least I talked him into getting the added insurance on our rental," she sighed. "Looks like he's making it through," I assured, honestly amazed the thing didn't get stuck. "Yeah ..." I was really glad we had rented a Yaris for this trip. It went through perfectly, mirrors out, and with no need to mock my driver/SO, Mr. D. Thankfully, the day we went, there was never a line to go through the Chandelier Tree -- only the occasional car every 10 minutes. We were able to leisurely walk through it and take pictures of all the paint scrapes you can see along the sides. Streaks of red, white, black, and blue colored the tunnel walls within the tree. The two-millennia-old Chandelier Tree measures 21 feet in diameter and the drive-thru hole is definitely not recommended for over-sized vehicles. Of course, they don't tell you this at the booth where they take your $5 to enter their private property either way. Another couple was having it out in the parking lot after noticing a silver dollar-sized chunk of paint missing off their Mercedes' right sideview mirror. "I told you you were going too fast, *** ******* ********* ******** **********!" and other epithets. This tree might just be the cause of several hours of therapy. It's one of the ultimate, trademark roadside attractions of Northern California, so yes, do visit at least once. If you plan to drive through the tree, come with a small car or one on which you don't mind collecting some interesting scratches and dents. read more

$5 to get in, but before you attempt to actually go through the tree, ensure you will FIT! We were in a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 and upon approach, we quickly realized we were not going to fit through. A bunch of guys were sitting outside the gift shop just chuckling, hoping we would try so they could have quite the show! We pulled off to the side and decided to walk through on foot and watch some other people try. Most cars, crossovers, etc will fit. We saw a Chevy Tahoe (that was quite low, just have been on smaller rims) that fit through, BUT.... That wasn't without the creaks and scrapes he endured getting through. ANOTHER COOL STOP ON 101 I can't tell you how many trees I've driven through. But I think it's two. And I've walked through a couple too! How cool would it be if instead of cutting down threes to make highways, they were able to just let you drive through them all?! Unfortunately, most trees are not big enough to drive though. The Chandelier Tree is not most trees. While it probably lost some of it's tree friends to construction of roads and home, it's one of the massive ones that survived; even with a hole in it big enough for a car to get through. And drive-thru we did! We paid $5 (per vehicle charge) for this experience which was totally worth it. Even the gift shop was really neat. We enjoyed walking around outside and talking with other travelers. Met some nice bikers from Utah and exchanged stories of the cool things we'd seen on the road so far. This was definitely one of the cool ones! The tree is so tall I actually couldn't get a picture of the whole thing. From any angle! We have been here a total of 3 times, and each time there has been no waiting!! We go during the off-season when the kiddos are in school. We also pass by here during the middle of the week close to opening time in order to avoid lines! The tree that you literally drive through is called the Chandelier Tree. It is a living, breathing, giant Redwood Tree!! You may have seen it in commercials cause it has been featured in a few. The Chandelier Tree is approximately 315 ft. high, 21 feet in diameter, and 2400 years old!! The only negative about this place would be if there are cars ahead of you! I can imagine this place gets very busy during peak vacation times (like summertime). You would be waiting a long time while the people ahead of you are taking pictures because only one vehicle can go through the tree at one time. We've been lucky each time cause of no crowds. Will be taking pictures for about 10 minutes before another car comes up behind us. We then circle around, and drive through the tree again. There is also a cool gift shop. Prices are reasonable here as well. I highly recommend visiting this "tourist trap"!! I love it!! read more

Not a bad way to spend $5. My husband and I visited the Shrine drive-thru tree the day before when we were driving the Avenue of the Giants and this one is 10x better. For one, its a dollar cheaper. It's also a nicely carved giant tree where the Shrine was kind of split in two. And lastly, it was a great place to just hang out and enjoy the lake. For $5 you and spend a good few hours having a picnic, taking pictures, and wander around the lake. If your lucky like us there was no line whatsoever. A few people were taking pictures here and there but we actually went thru twice because why not?! After touring the tree we drove down Highway 1 back home. Wish I could've checked in but there was no service in the mountains. Cost was $5 and about a 30 minute wait to get in but very fun. They call this tree the chandelier tree. Earlier the same day we found what we thought was the chandelier drive thru tree inside the redwoods, but upon driving home learned this was the original. Both trees were great and able to drive through both. Many people were scared, and saw 1 person scrape the top of their car with their camping gear. As long as you fold in your mirrors our Toyota Sequoia 5 door fit through with 3-4 inches on the sides and 5 inches above, just about knowing how big your car really is. Don't think a Tahoe or ford truck would fit but you never know. There is also a little gift shop where you can purchase pieces of redwood, tshirts, post cards and some small snacks. There are also bathrooms and parking once you drive through the tree. You also have the option of pulling up to the tree, parking your cat to take pictures and then pulling over to the right into the parking lot rather than driving through the tree.
