There are 3 sites for the beaches, some harder to find than others. Some beaches were hard to get down to, always be careful and safety first! Nice place to come for the first time visitor to Fort Bragg. My wife, her mom, and I came to visit Fort Bragg (named after the same person that the more famous Fort Bragg in North Carolina is named after) on our way down from redwood forest parks to spend the night in San Francisco. One of the more famous tourist attractions in the area is Glass Beach, so named for the once plentiful sea glass that dotted the shoreline. It was stop number 12 (14:01) on day 5 of our road trip. It is located in Noyo Headlands Park, where there was plentiful parking, even later in the afternoon. The glass originated from a city dump that operated until 1967. There wasn't much left. Thus most colors of the glass pebbles were the common green, brown, and clear color of beer (and soda) bottles. To get down to the area where the glass accumulates, requires going down a non-paved hill from the bluff, so wasn't possible for Mom. We did get some good pictures of the area. And there was a cool carved piece of driftwood, resembling a whale near the benches where we sat, admiring the scenery. read more

What a fun place to go. It appears there are bathroom, but there is a keypad on them so we weren't sure if they were open. There is a small parking lot with lots of spaces open on Wednesday, May 5, 2026, at around 6:30pm. There is still plenty of daylight left so this was a perfect time to visit. There aren't signs to glass beach, just a sign at the parking lot for glass beach. If you take the unpaved path and walk straight out you'll find it. To the left is a would sculpture of whales and to the right there is a sandy path to walk down to the beach. Don't climb the rocks, walk on the sandy trail. Soon as you get to the bottom you will be walking in nice size stone mixed in with broken shells. I'm not sure what kind, but there is a ton of broken pieces. Next you will get to the gravel part closest to the water. The gravel has mixed softened edges of glass pieces. The glass looks like tiny pebbles. You're not supposed to take anything home so please resist to there will be something to see for the next person that goes. The glass is all very tiny pieces. Mostly clear or green pieces. I didn't see any purple or red pieces. I believe we saw a lot of purple jelly fish. I didn't touch them so I wasn't to sure what they were. They were all washed up on the beach. This isn't the type of beach that you'll bring your beach chair and wear your bikini too. This is more of an exploring beach with trails around the area. There were no signs that said no dogs so there were a few dogs. Just make sure you're like the people we saw picking up after your dog. We had a fun time on the beach and took lots of fun pictures. read more

I went knowing that most of the glass has been taken by tourists. But there's a terrific trail that runs along the coast. We were able to walk along the trail for a couple of miles before my dogs got tired. We stopped along the shore so they could get their feet wet. Glass beach is always a beautiful location. I love exploring the tide pools and the area is so calm. There is a small parking lot that's free but there's always someone leaving, so parking spots open often. Most of the beautiful glass noted in some pictures are gone. People are still coming and removing what's left of the glass. Definitely stop here if you're in the area. read more

This is a top destination location for Fort Bragg, but it was definitely underwhelming. It could have been the time of day we went, but my husband and I were not impressed. It was actually disheartening to see so many people out there digging at the sand and collecting the glass. I imagine it used to be alot more abundant and beautiful, but to me, it was just a sad sight. It was packed with people and even looked a bit dirty. I'd say, head here if you're in the area, but don't expect the romantic version of it you've seen on social media. Just my two cents! read more

This was a big disappointment to me. I had heard that Glass Beach didn't really look like the pictures anymore but that is an understatement. I think they should change the name to The Beach formerly known as Glass Beach. There really isn't any glass. I've read many places you aren't supposed to take the glass but I saw numerous families digging in the sand and putting any sort of glass in cups or plastic bags. What? I actually didn't see any signs not to do this so in fairness maybe people are just very ignorant. It was upsetting and made me sad that a once beautiful unique feature has pretty much been destroyed by tourists. That being said it's a nice beach with many trails. It's worth going for that but just don't expect to see glass or anything close to the colorful Instagram photos. I was actually more impressed by the beach squirrels. They were numerous; scruffy little guys running around, foraging for food, and playing with each other. read more

This was a cute little place to stop and take pictures at we really enjoyed the view. Very easy to get to the beach. There is a lot of different people parked around all over the place taking pictures. Overall definitely a nice rest stop. Idk if I'd go out of my way to visit though but it's cool to have come once. read more

We enjoyed the hiking down to the beach and hills around the area. Easy access and free parking and short walk to the edge in order to go down. Weekend and holiday can be packed with tourists (including us) but it fun to see hem searching for glass and take them him (which you shouldn't). But the view is fantastic, especially during sunset or sunrise. It's very cold but if you keep being active, then it is fine. We stayed for almost 2hrs just walking up and down the coast and hiking up and down the cliffs. A fun activity to do with family and friends for sure. read more

Good for tide pooling!! Smells like a garbage truck that never got disposed for decades omg (it's probably the season I went). Lots of families, lots of dogs. Ample (free) parking on a weekday, but not much glass to look at. Lots of people digging around, not sure what they're finding, but I hope it's worth it! Free bathrooms but not the cleanest or best kept. A good place to stop by if it's already on your way to the next location, but definitely not worth going out of your way even 15 minutes to come here. read more

There's a small parking lot at Noyo Headlands Park to access this beach where tiny pieces of multi-colored glass blend in with the sand, seals relax on the rock islands not too far from the shoreline, and plenty of tourists pointlessly (and illegally) search for and collect glass fragments from this historical site. In 2025, it's not as beautiful as it used to be, as the smooth colorful sea glass formerly featured in the area has become almost nonexistent due to people stealing pieces despite preservation efforts. Can't come to Fort Bragg without visiting Glass Beach, so we went there the morning before heading home the next day. There was plenty of parking available, and we saw a map of the area. The map said there were stairs to take you down to Glass Beach, but we had a hard time finding it. Needless to say after getting a fair amount of steps in around the beautiful surroundings, we found a small beach where two people were collecting in a bag. We went down there and started searching and was able to find some nice ones. Though finding good ones were hard due to the popularity I guess. But it pretty much crossed off my Fort Bragg Bucket List. The area is so peaceful, and I would like to explore more of it next time I'm in the area. read more

When i was here 10 years ago there was lots of glass, at least inches deep, & no sand. Sadly, probably due to docial media, there is no glass anymore except lone pieces here & there. The beach is a pretty good hike from the parking lot so if you're bringing chairs & stuff it will be a chore. There is a nice flat walking path along the cliff though. For us though, the novelty of millions of multi-color glass beads to walk on, dig through, & inspect was what gave us reason to drive 6 hours north & visit Fort Bragg. read more

Pretty cool history and beautiful glasses. We had a bonus with the wind jellyfish that had drifted ashore when we were there. Apparently the steps down have either been removed or washed out so getting down and back up the bank was a bit tricky and not easily accessible. read more

Lovely views all year. Excellent restaurants in the area to enjoy. You might not find the colorful glass unless you know where to look.

We stopped by Glass Beach on our way home from Northern California. I had a certain expectation to see tons of colorful glass based on the social media images I had seen. Although it was quite different, it was still very beautiful! I would definitely advise to withhold the expectation of an overwhelming colorful beach made up of glass pieces, but you can still expect a beautiful space to enjoy. read more

It's interesting and beautiful beach. Very clean, water's so clear!!!! There are many big high rocks around so you can climb to search for any rare glass piece left or alive crabs, snails, claims... If you are coming here because of all good pictures with nice glass pebbles have been shown online for century then i'm so sorry. You not gonna find it. There still some colored stone left. It's good for walking around couple hours. Great for walking on rocks, around the sand to look for glass. I think's it depends on the tide. At some point of time in the day when tide goes low you can find more interesting things underneath the sand. Long short story for glass beach. Not exactly as portrayed online, this tourist spot is one of the more popular destinations here. Its okay but underwhelming. A beautiful view point of the ocean but, thinking you will find bits and pieces of ocean washed colored glass about, are days from the past period. Most all of that beautiful glass has been taken by said tourists over the decades and its a far shade of its glory days. I came here to check out the rainbow of smooth pebbles made of sea glass along the shore! Jokes on me, I should have read the prior reviews before making this trip. Most of the sea glass had been taken by prior tourists. Glass Beach didn't turn out to be the view I expected, but the large waves crashing against giant black rocks was still an incredible sight. read more

Stopped at Glass Beach during our stay in Fort Bragg. It's a great area to walk along and search for the colorful bits of beach glass, but don't expect long expanses of beach. It's pretty rocky and you have to climb down some spots to get to the small separate beach areas. The glass I saw were in little bits and pieces, so nothing big enough for a pendant or anything, but maybe I wasn't really looking in the right places since I wasn't planning to take any of the glass anyway. There's a retired ranger, Ranger Ron, at the head of the trail sharing stories about the history of the beach. Nice to just chat with him for a minute or two! There are lots of squirrels around that aren't shy of people; one started coming toward me, but I'm not one to feed wild animals, so I just watched it go to someone else. read more

Came here early to see what all the hype was about this Glass beach and unsurprisingly for a beach called Glass Beach, there wasn't that many pieces of glass scattered on the beach as we all expected. Likely of course due to all the tourists in the past already picking up all the glass to begin with. But other than the glass itself, the park has beautiful coastlines stretching all over the Fort Bragg coastline here. You can walk for miles to soak in the sea breeze here and be at complete peace coming here. Coming here early, there was not too much of a tourist crowd so walking the trails was sparse and perfect for those who want to enjoy their peace in the early morning outdoors. There are tiny specks of glass on the trail it turns out as I guess the waves from time to time pound the coast and glass does fly to the trail so you might see some specks of green, white, or brown on the ground. As for a beach that was littered with glass, you probably won't see it as the news portrays--or could you if you know where they really are? read more

Glass Beach. It's a cut above the rest. Was it worth the four-hour drive from San Jose? For most people, maybe not. But for my wife and I, yes, since this has been on my bucket list since seeing episode #3009 of Huell Howser's "California's Gold" in 2001. It was then described as "a treasure hunter's paradise... a kaleidoscope of colored glass glittering in the Pacific surf", though now it's more a microscope than kaleidoscope. Look up the history, but basically this area is one of three sites where trash was dumped 1949-1967. The biodegradable stuff biodegraded, the metal was taken for scrap, and the glassware and pottery pieces left behind were beaten by waves into smooth pieces. That may explain why Rhianna's skin was so smooth while dating Chris Brown. We went twice on our overnight stay in Fort Bragg. The first day, we avoided the right side at the end of the trail, which was full of the kind of tourists responsible for negative reviews since the area is mostly sand and tide pools, where you'd find more glass in Sandy Duncan's eye. To the left of the trail, a few questionable steps down contentious terrain down a dubious slope along a controversial ridge brought us to a small cove we had to ourselves with a beautiful waterfall backdrop (that came from a pipe). There, I figured if you dug your hand into the pebbly ground within six feet of the water and scooped up a handful of pea to Jelly-belly sized pieces, about 40% would be glass, though 75% of that would be white or clear. For those of you who did not study for the test, this means that for every 20 pieces, 12 pieces are rock or shell, 6 are white or clear glass, and 2 have color, most likely amber or green. So, in a way, it's like treasure hunting or panning for gold, especially when you know that the baby blue and red are rare. The second day was after a visit to Captain Cass' Sea Glass Museum downtown, where his homemade signs suggest that attempts to criminalize crossing the ropes and taking glass are unconstitutional. Part of me likes the whole "know your rights, stick it to the man," aspect, but part of me thinks it's like those obnoxious "auditor" people who argue with cops saying they don't need to show a drivers license at a DUI stop because of commonwealth laws that allow you to marry your horse or smoke pot under a blue umbrella. Anyway, his signs encouraged us to take the path far left and jump over the rope to inspect some debatable cliffs, where we found one with an unconvincingly safe path down problematic terrain along a spurious route down an apocryphal ridge past a conspicuous thesaurus to the beach. From this cove (on Memorial Day), we could see no other people and we found a greater variety of colors even further from the water, though the pieces were smaller. Went back again at peak low tide - amazing tide pooling to be found here! Fun sightings of sea stars of all sizes, and even saw a giant sea slug (cucumber???) which was cool! This is seriously an awesome beach, and I highly recommend a visit at low tide to explore the rocks! read more

Honest review... We were just there and the beach is really picked over. There is glass there but the pieces are really small(went at low tide). Still spent some time there with the kids and they did have fun. You may not find the large pieces of glass other images have shown. The walk along the beach though is nice and worth it. read more

There is a nice muti use path with very nice views on the coast. As for the glass beach may have been worthwile at some time but the colorfull rendering photos are much better, we have seen many people taking the more colorfull and prettiest with them, one ladies had a bag , collecting the best pieces, it is unlawfull but there is no enforcement, people stupidity is killing it. The pieces of glass were much smaller than the ones shown on the photo with this page. But the scenery is very nice, and there were tadpoles and sea snails in the tidepools when we went. We would come back here if we were in the area or passing through, our kids would probably enjoy it, but I don't think we'd make a special trip up here just for this beach. Parking lot bathroom is unisex but was clean (no seat covers, though). read more
