If you're a Dal or SMU student who's about to finish your term or perhaps a research student who has to head out to the airport to catch a flight for a conference, you'd probably have been in my position where you'll need to engage the services of Driver Dave. While those who may be travelling alone may not necessarily consider using their services, but for those like myself who often bring along a plus one, would find that trying alternatives (rather than airporter) such as Driver Daves would be a great idea at saving a couple of bucks. Not to mention the professionalism of their services, Driver Dave is not necessarily Dave itself driving. Sometimes its Mike or John or whoever is free to take on Dave's role as Dave may be busy with his other business engagement. But rest assured, you'll get to the airport on time. If you have any concerns whatsoever, do not hesitate to contact Dave or his guys and let them know well in advance. They also provide other transport services to local sites and destinations. I've tried some other college/uni students who offer rides but have experienced being left alone at the airport and them completely forgetting to pick me up. So, my advice for those who doesn't want to walk all the way to airporter stops or pay extra for yellow cabs, this is a better alternative. Oh ya, I know we are all students, but it does pay to tip the driver a lil'. Perhaps an extra 5 is not much to ask. It still saves you compared to having to take the Airporter (not to mention having to get to their stop sites) So ya, in short, if you're travelling with more than one person then yes this is a good option both financially and also as a quality of service. But if you're travelling alone and can get to the airporter stop sites easily, then perhaps you may not need it. Then again, things may change when Metro Transit introduces the airport bus route by April of 2012. read more

I've replied to the email used when I was confirming my driver and I am disappointed to not have heard a response. I had never used this service before, so I knew little about it. I couldn't find much information but it was cheaper than a cab so I thought I'd give it a shot. My driver today was very late and rude. I asked for an earlier driver so that I would have plenty of time to get through security, but was denied, they said I had plenty of time if he arrived at 5:30. What I was not aware of was how we were stopping for three other passengers before heading to the airport. I specifically asked to leave the city at 5:30, so I assumed I was the last to be picked up and not the first. So after getting lost a few times, instead of leaving the city at 5:30, It was 6:00 am. We didn't get to the airport until 6:30, my flight was at 7:30. I had 15 minutes to check by bag so I asked to leave the cab and go. However he got into a fight with two other passengers at the airport and wouldn't let me out of the cab. He was charging them $40 and they were quoted $25 so no one was allowed to leave. I screamed to be let out, but he locked all the doors. I had no time to waste on this stupid nonsense, not to mention how terrifying it was to be locked in a cab with three other screaming individuals. It wasn't until the two other passengers yelled at him to let me out that the situation became hostile and he unlocked the doors. He then proceeded to throw our luggage on the ground. I ended up missing the cut off time for checked luggage. If I didn't cry to the West Jet woman and explain what happened I wouldn't have been able to check my bags. The line at security was passed the food court and around the corner, I had 10 minutes before boarding. If it wasn't for the woman at security having empathy for me I would have missed my flight completely. I made it to the gate with less than five minutes to spare before boarding. If I had gotten an earlier shuttle like I asked for this wouldn't have been a problem, But I was "guaranteed" that I would have arrived with plenty of time to spare. If there was no earlier shuttle than they should have said something instead of stressing me out and almost making me miss my flight. I will get a cab next time that was awful. read more

My daughter used this company in first year University and was great...however, fast forward to year 3 and 4...just terrible service. From running late and just not picking her up, to no text confirmation, and you try to call and their mail box is full! You send a text, you get no reply! The driver told my daughter he had no machine in the car...then he found one somewhere...very suspicious if you ask me! No Class at all! Very Very unreliable company. read more

So I've been waiting at the airport for 1 hour after checking in for my driver. The driver has stopped responding to my texts. Apparently I've been lumped in with a passenger whose flight arrives an hour after mine. Again, I was not informed of this until I spoke with the Ground Transportation commissioner. It is unacceptable to 1) delay me for an hour at the airport to wait for another passenger, and 2) not inform me of this so I can arrange alternative transportation. I am thoroughly unimpressed with the service I've received this evening. In the future it would be important to keep your customers informed as to why there might be significant delays in the pick up process and to think about what could be done to remedy this. Although I've previously had good experiences with Driver Dave's, the problems I've had lately with them leads me to believe they are no longer interested in upholding the same standards of service as they once provided. Sadly, the options for ridesharing at the Halifax Airport are so meager that for many people, this shoddy service will be the only affordable option. All I can hope is that their desire to provide decent customer service will eventually overcome the desire to maximize profits. read more

You don't have to be a math major to do simple arithmetic. One taxi / limo fare divided by 3 is $21 or $31.50 for 2 people; for a luxury door to door service ANYWHERE in town with a taxi or limo, not just the "coverage area" Driver Dave offers. All taxis and limos are can pick you up at the airport, not just Driver Dave. This guy is making a mint packing in students who think they are getting a deal while he collects CASH ONLY IN THE CAR making hundreds of dollars each trip. You can pay with a credit card or debit in a taxi or limo. This guy is making a killing on the illusion you are getting a great deal by charging PER PERSON rather than a flat rate PER VEHICLE like other reputable taxis and limos do. read more

How does one get to the airport? I've always been lucky enough to be travelling at times that I could get a family member or friend to drive me. Or take Halifax Transit. However, for one specific trip, it wasn't going to work. I had to be at the airport really early. Transit? I'd have to leave insanely early. Family? Too early to make anyone drive me. Friends? Not if I want them to remain my friends? Cabs? Too expensive. So I ordered a pickup through Driver Dave's online. The booking process was very simple. I appreciate the flat fee rate. The morning of I got a "wake up text" from the driver with an ETA for my house. And he was right on time. He was very perky for 5 a.m. Moreso than I. The trip to the airport was efficient (I was the last pickup so we headed straight there) and the driver was chatty but also able to gauge that the other passenger and I were not. I'd definitely use them again. read more

Driver Dave's is a great reasonably priced option for those travelling alone ($30) or with one other person ($40) from and to the Halifax airport, and you don't need to be a student. They have late night/early morning pick up/drop off, which is even a bigger bonus for this type of less expensive service! They text you when you arrive at the airport, and they have still picked me up even when my flight was 2 hours delayed twice (once at 4am and once at 6am). But check to see if you have to go to ground transportation services first and ask them to call up the driver so he can come around to pick you up (I think this is only for other taxis who are not authorized airport taxis, being who can wait up front). So try Driver Dave's when the Metro transit bus won't work for you because of: - schedule (only runs about 4:30am-12 midnight), - time (can take about 40 minutes from downtown as it makes stops of course), or - amount of luggage (who wants to drag 2 suitcases from you place to a bus stop, especially if you are transferring from a city bus to the express bus - and they may not let you on the bus with excess luggage). However, note that it is still $20 per person in groups of 2 or more ($30 if you are by yourself), so if you were 4 people it would then be $80 which is more than other shuttle prices. Best to keep it at 2 people or less, or even 3 for $60 as if you were just going to hop in a cab, I'm told the standard flat rate is up to $63 from $53 (but that I can't verify as I've never taken a cab from the taxi line and hope I never have to!) read more

I had heard a lot of great things about Driver Dave's and since I needed an inexpensive ride to the airport, I decided why not give it a shot. The booking process was smooth and everything was great. I received my confirmation of booking time, which I had booked several hours in advance. Once it was time to get picked up, no word from the driver or the company. I followed up with a phone call, and no answer - and the voicemail box is full. I tried to email, but no response. About 30 minutes after my confirmed pickup time, I received a text message saying that due to the weather they were going to be unable to pick me up and give me the ride I had booked. Granted, the weather was poor - but a company that is centred around transportation should be constantly monitoring the weather and planning in advance. It was a poor experience, and I hope this is not always the case - but because of this, I will not be using Dave's services again. read more

Arrived at Halifax airport at 2 am. Despite receiving a text from the driver saying to visit ground transport desk when i was ready, there was a nearly 25 minute lag between me checking in at desk and him picking me up. There were three others also picked up. I think i could have easily found someone to share a cab for the same $35 fee. The driver was defensive and not pleasant when i asked about the wait. He did not speak a word from pickup to drop off to me or the other passengers. Awkward. I think i would try something else next time. read more

They don't do a good job of explaining you're going to be sharing a Cab with 3 other people when you're booking. Not worth my time to be waiting 15-20 minutes at the airport and another 15 in the cab to save $20.00 at 2am. Won't be using this service again. read more

I was not impressed with Driver Dave's services. I booked a ride with one other friend to go to the airport. The driver showed up 15 minutes earlier than the requested time. Because I wasn't waiting outside, he was impatient and rude. I did not realize this at booking, but they will fill the car to capacity with people. Crowded in a car of 7 people, $25 is not such a deal. If you are travelling in a group of 2-3 people, just book a cab instead. read more

My wife and I flew into Halifax Stanfield International Airport on the night of June 23 and used Driver Dave's to get to our hotel in downtown Halifax. Our experience with Driver Dave's was excellent. We had reserved online in advance, with Driver Dave's answering all of our questions by e-mail. Our driver, Kyle, was waiting for us as soon as we cleared customs and ushered us into a roomy late-model SUV. The trip into Halifax was quick but safe and Kyle was very pleasant and informative. It was like having your best buddy picking you up at the airport. The cost was $50 Canadian, in cash, for two persons, one-way, plus a well-deserved tip, a savings over the taxi fare. Okay so first of all I'm an international student, and I used Driver Dave's during my first trip to Canada. They were really helpful and accommodating, especially considering I kept cancelling and re-booking the same ride over and over again. Surprisingly, that didn't compromise the quality of the service, as the ride was very pleasant, the car was clean and not crowded at all (just me and a couple). Not to mention the pricing, which was the main factor prompting me to use Driver Dave's because, and let's be honest, nowhere else will you be charged 35 dollars for a ride this good. read more

I've used Driver Dave to travel from the Halifax airport to the city, and I am planning on using the service to travel to the airport again in a couple of days. The cab did not leave precisely on time, but that's because other customers were taking their time arriving. I have to say that the driver was very conscientious! I left my coat in the van, and the driver drove an extra ten or so minutes to return it to me! I made sure to tip him well, but he seemed to be doing the favour out of his own goodwill. Can't argue with service like that! So. Booked this service yesterday. Got a confirmation email. Got a text from them today. Showed up to ground transportation at the airport and they didn't have my name. I had a confirmation email there to show him but he said it didn't matter because the company didn't give him my name, so it's just as well I had nothing. Luckily I had their number on hand so could quickly text to get this sorted out, right? Well, they gave me a driver and sent me outside to wait. Only to come tell me after I had been waiting that I was going in a different car that was already full of luggage, so the driver had to rearrange everything, and I got to sit on that ridge between two seats in the back as there was another suitcase wedged next to me. The ride itself was fine, and the driver, just the wondering do I have a ride or not was not what I expected. Wouldn't use it again for that reason, would rather just pay the extra for a cab so I at least am confident I have a ride coming. read more
