"Definitely not a goner"…read more.. Lately, I've become more & more charmed by everything French. It might just be an excuse to stop shaving and go all matted axilla jungle. Pardon my French ;p I'm actually quite surprised this cozy bistro doesn't have more people declaring their love for. The guys running this shop are proud of their Lyonnais heritage and rightfully so! La Gone deserves nothing but top ratings! Good French places that offer affordable lunch and take away meals are really hard to come by here in frog country. In fact, I haven't found such in A'dam yet. This place is French hospitality to the max! French and hospitality, who knew? First off, the owner started by asking What, no wine for lunch? My friend at first was a little deterred by the somewhat challenging menu (no concessions made here!) commenting: don't they have anything normal, like without intestines, liver, gizzards, or anything not fatty? What's wrong with you, you you spoiled Peruvian taste buds?! Haven't I taught you anything?! Fat is good, we love fat and we jad'ore even more foie gras!!! What I love about the French cuisine is that even something "safe", like the boeuf bourguignon, is utterly satisfying. Not quite as satisfying as my "salad" though. Think salad is just French for a heap full of buttery sinful foie gras topped by a mountain of gizzards. Never had those before, but I need more of that in my life now! And why not just throw in some extra smoked duck breast, slices of dried giant figs, walnuts & their secret homemade mustard based vinaigrette. I'm sure this salad turned my liver into a hump of adipose tissue. One thing is for sure. The French are definitely not shy of ingesting some fat. And that rilette, sweet mother of ... Perhaps €17-18,50 might seem a little exorbitant for lunch. But hey, if you want quality you have to fork over. Besides, the plate du jour comes with a side salad and the portions are really generous. Trust me, after this, your stomach won't be bothering you for a good couple of hours...Also, the takeaway meals are priced considerably more kind. If I could I would visit here every weekend for a indulgent lunch and take some sweets or a baguette home for a light dinner. You know citron gateau is French for dinner right... p.s the macarons are by far the best I've tasted so far!!!

My favorites are salted caramel, rose lychee, vanilla, and chocolate lavender. We love trying the monthly specials too. This month was Lemoncello... Delicious! Seriously the best Macarons in Amsterdam! The also have beautiful tarts and chocolates, I will have to go back and try those too! There are usually some samples available for you to try. Good customer service is a commodity in this town so I had to look into this place... As a result of the mistake and the story of it's correction, I'd consider myself now to be a Tout regular. I buy the macaroons as gifts for people, I use them to impress my bosses and let's be honest, I cheekily gift them to myself as well. :) I also took part in the macaroon workshop which was great! My only complaint here was that we weren't able to do everything ourselves but due to the nature of macaroons, it would need to be a pretty long workshop (try 3 days!). The price of the workshop might seem steep (I think 60 euros) but I came out of there with almost 2 full boxes of mini macaroons so it's totally worth it if you ask me - not to mention the afternoon of educational fun and the owner is his own brand of eye-candy... :P

I was waiting for brunch one day when I stumbled upon this cute little bakery on yelp. It was located on a quiet street and was empty both when we went in and when we left. This left me feeling a bit uneasy and definitely caused me to reconsider whether or not I wanted to leave with anything or hit them with the "oh I was just looking thank you" and walk out but I ended up decided to get a box of 5 macarons. Their flavors are very interesting and I'm not so much a fan of fruity flavors but they have a lot of innovative fruity flavored macarons. I ended up leaving with pistachio and caramel and vanilla flavored macarons but each one of them were so so so delicious and I wish I got more! SO GOOD BEST BEST MACARONS EVER!

Once you arrive on Halvemaanstraat, you'll see a big industrial warehouse-looking complex; Pinkie Patisserie is located within the renovated/partitioned warehouse, with the entrance around the corner. The place itself is small, but there are places to sit if you would like. But on to the macarons! I arrived close to closing time, and it seemed that instead of being able to pick from a spread of flavors, you just directly buy the prepackaged box (either 6 or 12). Of course, there are small bags if you only wanted to buy a few. Each macaron, regardless of packaging, is 1 euro. That's a real steal! Almost as cheap as at French McDonald's hahaha. The flavors available that day were: Vanilla, Lemon, Salted Caramel, "Blueberry" (?), Violet, Apricot, Pistachio, and Cherry. Blueberry is in quotes because the man at the counter (the patissier, I believe) told me it was Blueberry; but considering that blueberry is already so rare in the Netherlands, I'd venture that it was actually cassis. It certainly didn't taste like blueberry. I wanted to switch out one of the macarons in my box, but instead of switching it out, the man was super nice and just gave me the other one I wanted, on the house. Six euros for seven macarons?! Also, I asked him if they were made on-site, and he said, "Yes, I spent all day making them!" The macarons were generally good, though the texture varied a little. In some, the shells were perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside; but in others, the inside was a little more dry, with the foot of the macaron almost as tough as the inside of a meringue. But that's okay, they were still yummy. My favorite would have to be the Violet. It was freaking amazing. The flavors brought back so many memories of eating taro ice cream in my childhood (for some reason the two flavors are similar), and even after I ate other ones, the violet stayed on my tongue. One day I will go back and pre-order an entire box of violet macarons. "Blueberry" and Apricot were my least favorite. Mostly because the fillings were jams. I didn't have Cherry, but presumably that one is also a jam. Also, "blueberry" had a salted taste to it, and almost reminded me of sweet soy sauce. Finally, the salted caramel macaron has caramel as the filling. All of the other ones were flavored buttercream, I believe. I would have given this place four stars for the macarons themselves (already a good rating!), but because (1) the patissier was so nice, (2) this is literally one of the only places I can get macarons in Eindhoven, (3) it was so cheap, and (4) I will definitely be going back, five stars!
