I always approach staff with courtesy and a smile. A) you don't wanna mess with people who serve your food B) there's no reason to be a dick to people. So when the B rang me up, I asked her if I could add another pastry. She glared at me like I was asking her to help me move. So she unwillingly went back to the pastry cabinet, and I also kindly reminded her of the other pastries that I picked out earlier. I haven't finished my sentence and she interrupted me and said scornfully, "I know." My friend later came and stood next to me at the register and she saw her face too. She said, "wow, she looks like we have murdered her whole family. Wtf is wrong with her!?" If we did murder her family, I think she should take a day off and cry about it, not coming to work and take it out on customers. I normally don't write a bad review based on one aspect, but I can say I haven't seen such a mean person in the customer service sector for a loooong loooong time. Chinese restaurants by far have better service than this place. At least the Chinese ladies ignore me, not showing me any form of aggression. Don't care how your pastries and coffee taste, neither of us liked it here.

I was curious and asked about it at the counter. "Buy one or buy 6, I bet you'll want to eat the whole bag," the guy at Bakker Bart told me. At around 3 Euro, it was a steal and for the rest of the day, I had snacks that would save me from passing out. Bakker Bart is a quaint bakery (like Au Bon Pain almost) but with lots of Dutch treats. The hot pink motif makes it really stand out and everything is fresh! I'd buy more if I were going home to a fridge. The sandwiches looked decent enough for lunch but it was really the supersaucus (meat pies, savory pastry filled with beef or pork) that really drew us in. Having tried several bakeries in The Netherlands I've come to the conclusion that it's extremely rare to find good cupcakes. They are either stale or the icing isn't right or just plain ol' BLAH! But that wasn't the case at VAN NESS I've been trying to eat their cupcakes for a while now. They get sold out rather quickly so one has to go sometime before 3-4pm if you want to have all the flavors. So we walked into this tiny store full of excitement and tried four different flavors of cupcakes (chocolate lava, red velvet, pistachio and chocolate vanilla) and boy o' boy was I pleasantly surprised, they were EPICALLY delicious. They were moist and full of flavor and honestly the best I've had in this country for sure! I totally understand why they are sold out before the store closes and I was so impressed to taste every flavor and their icing was divine. So yes go there, go there tomorrow! It's a reasonably small place, so I wouldn't recommend it for groups, but it's very nice to sit inside when you're with a friend.
