Not as isolated as the apartments nor as bonkers as Castle Irwell, this campus-based hall of residence enjoys such close proximity to the main university buildings that students can fall out of bed and into lectures within minutes. While students don't have the luxury ensuites of Constantine, they each have a washbasin in their room and the twelve-bedroom houses can be home to 168 university-dwellers. Again, Horlock's selling point is definitely its central location. It occupies the same square as the Blackwells bookshop, the HSBC bank and the cute little general store that sells the Hershey and Reece's stuff. There's a pretty campus green just outside too which leads to Constantine, its sister hall, and like all Salford accommodation gym membership and broadband internet are included free of charge along with a weekly cleaner, a launderette, out of hours support, security and content insurance. The problem here is that car parking is far from free, due to the campus location. Remember, the staff have to park there too. Horlock's an undergraduate only block and it's definitely a great starter for first years. The large houses mean it's easy to make friends and if you wind up with great housemates, you can get involved in bonding activities such as taking turns in cooking and sharing meals. A bit of a tip here - everyone turns up with a toaster and a kettle, so you might want to hold off on those unless you're planning on grilling teacakes and making brews in your room whilst still under your duvet. Horlock's a classier choice than Castle Irwell if you want a more university-centric halls of residence experience.

My mum opted for one of the days specials - a Roasted Red Pepper and Goats Cheese Flatbread, which came toasted with chips. Both meals were freshly cooked and the service was friendly. We had shopping to do, so were in and out within 35 minutes, which I can imagine will be ideal for those busy weekdays with the people of the nearby businesses and shops popping in on their lunch hour. The rest of the menu seemed standard and what you'd expect from a town centre cafe. The prices were also reasonable. I wouldn't travel across town to go there - but if you're passing by when shopping and fancy a quick lunch, i'd recommend it. It's certainly better than many of the alternatiive eateries in Bury.

So if I compare the food offer by Al-Waalis with the price it is justified. Secondly with increase price of adults they giving 50% discounts for the kids upto 10 Years old and under 5 are free. It's a fairly new restaurant, converted from the old infamous Palace Night Club - used to be a theatre/cinema in the distant past. It's clean, and very quite for a restaurent of it's size, a tad too quiet, but I daresay this will change as people learn of it. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and the food is to die for - wonderful flavour - have tried 6+ dishes so far, all spot on for taste, and the portions sizes are genrous to say the least. It's by far the best Indian food I've ever had, and that's saying something. It's main competitor is the ridiculously sucessful Nawaab, which in my opinion, it outclasses by miles on food quality and taste and for veggies, the food cost is slightly cheaper for a meal, at least for everyone I eat out with. Big advantage it has over it is you don't have to wait to eat, or have to fight to get to the food counter only to find they've run out of your favourite dish. Meat eaters will find it a little more expensive BUT at some point in October '08 (not sure of exact date) they'll be starting an all-you-can-eat buffet, which will be cheaper. They aren't licenced, and the main restaurant is up some serious stairs, I need a stick to walk and do struggle getting up there but it's well worth the effort. It has a banqueting hall which I believe is bookable for private functions. If the buffet is as good as the dishes I've tried from them so far, it will be amazing! If you need to find it, the car park is behind the shops on the north side (manchester side) of the junction of Stockport Rd (A6) and Albert Rd. It's very near the train station so easy to get to if coming by train, and there are tons of buses nearby (A6 for most 192 197 191 168- get off at Natwest in Lev, and Albert Road for 197 191 169 168 171 172 178 get off at Lev station). Plenty of tables and squidgy chairs. I didn't have long so went for a pot of tea and one of their delicious homemade scones that are absolutely to die for!! My only complaint was the very silly question of whether I wanted cream and jam with my scone! But of course!! They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner here so I'll definitely be popping back! As the name suggests, they also salvage furniture and even run workshops so you can have a go yourself! Again, this is something I might pop back for! Would highly recommend
