You can opt in for free by agreeing to pay for a one hour massage every month at a reduced price. Apparently it rolls over if you don't use it and you can get unlimited massages at that same reduced price. The ambiance feels like somewhere between a regular massage clinic and a more spa like place. The place has a very serene feel to it and is quite large as there are a number of rooms in the back. You can book online and there's a receptionist available as well. They say their massage is 1 hour but like many places, it's more like 50 mins as the therapist is not always on time and then gives you another 5 mins or so to change. The room is simply designed with good temperature, each massage table has adjustable heat and the music is the typical new age relaxation songs. Right now they are offering an intro rate of $54.95 for a 50 min massage. To compare pricing for similar 50 min massages in the city: Rave = member $64.95 / non-member $84.95 for 50 mins relaxation Swedish massage Spas: Ten Spa = $115 Riverstone = $105 Massage Clinics: Academy Massage = $70 Waterfront Massage = $68 So their pricing is a bit less than the massage clinics if you take on the membership but I'm not one to have a massage every month and I don't think many people have such generous health plans to cover 12 massages a year. For those reason, the membership pricing doesn't work for me but it's a decent deal if you do require massages more frequently and have a generous plan. The therapist I had was ok but he really didn't ask me about how much pressure I prefer or asked me during the session if I wanted more or less pressure. Compared to other therapists, it was ok. I decided to try a few before I found my favorite, they have over 12 so there is always options. The decor is all new and the music is relaxing, I always feel like I am having a spa experience when I go with the hot towels and heated tables that I can control, it always smells so nice inside! The bank across the road was under construction in May/June and was claiming a good chunk of the parking lot but since then I've never had an issue. As far as timing is concerned, I've only seen people have problems if they were coming in late for their appointment. The receptionists are busy women and often running around keeping the place clean, but I've never experienced a long wait and they've always addressed my concerns or asked a therapist if they didn't know. After the initial introductory massage the rates go up, but my membership status makes it only $10 more and entitles me to extend the pricing to family in my household and some luxurious aromatherapy. Everyone I've recommended to go to Rave has LOVED IT and the majority have signed up to be members too. Since I've been getting massage regularly I haven't had a single migraine and I'm so RAVING about it!

They have a lot of therapists there so I can usually get an appointment on the same day that I call. I go with a different therapist every time, some are better than others. My definition of a great massage is someone who listens to my problems and then gives me a super deep tissue massage. The good ones really focus on the problem and give advice on what to after the treatment. I've had some great massages here and some bad ones but this is all due to the fact that I go with a different therapist every time. Although I never found the right therapist here so I've moved onto another clinic. But for the times when I can't get an appointment with my current massage therapist, I call Academy. Pros: - very clean facility, sheets are decently soft - they have a FT receptionist (some places don't) - lots of therapists (possible to get in on the same day) - good pricing; it's in line with most clinics around the city Cons: - because it's an old house, you can hear a lot noise from the second floor (loud creaks) which can be a bit distracting if you're looking for a very tranquil environment - certain rooms kinda loud, like the one near the kitchen or the laundry room; I prefer the ones on the second level - hit and miss with the therapists (some are friendly, a few seem a bit cold) so if you find a good one, keep them! - if you want direct billing to your insurance company, you have to pay a $3 admin charge - kinda annoying since other places don't do that. But you can just pay the entire bill and handle your own reimbursement if you want to avoid that charge.

At the beginning of the appointment we spent a good amount of time going over my medical issues and painful spots in detail so that he could give me appropriate treatment. His space is really nice - sunny and warm and relaxing, with lots of plants. He let me pick the music for my massage (never had a massage therapist offer that before) and also provided some aromatherapy for no additional cost. The massage was really excellent - firm pressure every where I needed it. He didn't ask for feedback on the pressure but gauged it really well and made adjustments the few times I did ask. He also worked on my upper arms in a way that was total magic and that no one had done before. My only complaint would be the massage table. Instead of having an attached face rest it has a face hole cut in the table itself. This actually worked out okay for me but it does mean the face rest is not adjustable at all. My main issue with this came when I flipped on my back with a pillow under my head. It took a few tries to find a solution that didn't have my head raised up too high (I don't like a pillow under my head at all, but that wasn't really possible with the hole in the table.) It also reduces the length of the table - I'm not that tall (5'8") and my feet went right to the end. I'm not sure how well a very tall person would fit on there. Otherwise, everything was quite awesome and I will absolutely be going back soon. He's a little pricier than your average place ($75 for an hour, $95 for 1.5 hours) but I feel I definitely got my money's worth. He takes credit card, cash and cheque - no Interac. Oh, just be aware that if your insurance company is extremely fussy his receipts are hand written (rather than printed off a computer.) His info is stamped on the receipt but I know some insurance companies can be really difficult about accepting hand written receipts, so just a heads up.

The location is nice, the customer service was outstanding, and the massage itself was very helpful. The therapist I saw made sure that everything was comfortable, gave her recommendations with explanations as to why she was making the recommendations and they made sure to get me out on time for the appointment I had afterwards. The only complaint I have is that you can hear the exercise classes of the gym next door which does take away from the relaxing nature of the experience. However, it is intermittent and you can often avoid it by not going in the early morning or late evening.
