If I could give negative stars, I definitely would.. yes, the hospital is new, clean and warm for a…read morehospital.. however, I wish I had gone elsewhere.. had issues with swelling, pain and more pain, after a knee replacement three weeks ago. so I felt I needed to get it looked at just to ease my mind and chose this place.. stated with the nurse doing vitals, not pleasant and was not "gentle" while she did vitals, and shoved the thermometer in my ear rather hard that I actually winced.. she finished with not saying a word.. ten minutes and the dr shows up.. first impression, looks like he's lost., enters the room stands there and looks at me and my leg for a minute and proceeds to say " what sends to new the problem?" He checked my chart doors a one over on my leg and says oh it's not that bad! I can't bend my toes or ankle it's so swollen and has different areas that are red and painful.. long story short, he commented the er isn't really equipped for a swollen ankle, and he didn't think it war summing to worry about!!' His time and demeanor was absurd and in a way like I was interrupting and bothering him. Didn't care what I was telling him about my concerns, so after I felt I was being insulted and judged, I told him thank you and hobbled out the doors!! Felt insulted and confused as to why adr wouldn't have recommended double checking labs or ultrasound eliminating the main possibilities?

Not having me or her father there to advocate for her, she had to attend this appointment by herself. She explained to him that they get so terrible that she often throws up and passes out. We instructed her to ask for an MRI, which she did. She was told no way is he sending her for an MRI for just migraines, gave her pills and told her to take for the rest of your life. That was it. When she was back in NYC for Christmas break we took her to a neurologist here. Two serious issues were found on her scan, both of which we will be following up with in New York. I'll start by saying Dr. Benda's bedside manner while treating a very nervous 19 year old girl was atrocious. Shame on this situation and you Dr. Benda, do better for the people that place their trust in you.

I was really surprised to find such a great practice in a small town like Dubuque. Specifically, my providers always listened to me and addressed my concerns. They didn't lecture me or act like they knew more than me. I really hated to move away, mostly because I knew I would lose Dr. Ewen and this practice.
