There are some huge trees where you could easily sit and eat lunch. For kids, the playground is very nice. There's a sandlot with a ton of random toys just hanging around. It is, in my opinion, the most beautiful park in Princeton and amongst the most beautiful in Mercer County (Bald Pate Mountain in Hopewell is up there as well). There are about eight miles of nature trails at this park which offer fantastic hiking (not overly technical) and trail running opportunities. I bring my dogs here and they absolutely love it. Volunteers do an amazing job of keeping the trails in tip top shape (mix of dirt, grass, mulch and pebble trails). The lake itself is beautiful. Actually, everything about this place is beautiful. The trails are well marked and it's relatively hard to get lost.

Just days after General Washington's surprise attack on Trenton, American troops surprised and…read moredefeated a force of British Regulars. It was the morning of January 3, 1777. At first the Americans were forced back, but the General rode right up to the front lines and lead his men to victory. We found that the park was easily accessed with plenty of parking. There had been a giant oak tree dating back to the time of the battle, but it died in 2000. A replacement now stands, having been grown from an acorn of the original. We went on a beautiful sunlit day, and you could easily picture the battle taking place. I found it particularly chilling to walk on ground that George Washington trod in victory 250 years ago - then look up to see a bald eagle soaring 50 feet above my head.

I know everyone loves the other parks, but this one has a real restroom, open most of the year and a port a potty during the winter. A definite bonus with kids. Skate park. Skateboards, bicycles, scooters. No one is rude--it's rather refreshing seeing people take turns. So much for the idea from my childhood that skaters were criminals. Climbing wall. Basketball court. Jungle gyms for wee and older kids. Picnic tables. Active soccer field. Swings. One was broken last summer, removed the next day, replaced the third day. Active. It is rare that the park is ever empty. Ample parking I try to do the bars every time we visit; the kids aren't quite there yet, but there are both children's and regular bars, plus the spinny bars. 4 slides, possibly 5. Tip: if you want to take ice cream cones, scoop ice cream on to cones, put upside down into cups (the kid's cups from restaurants are perfect), then put into a purse. The kids will think you're a mad genius.

There's nothing else. No walking path. In the back right of the field, there's a very faded sign that says trail but it's so overgrown and not maintained you can't really go anywhere. A good spot for a picnic maybe or a rest between walking on the canals. There's two portable restrooms but no actual bathrooms. The portapotties were particularly filthy but it's also a holiday weekend day.

The entrance to the park has spaces for about 15-20 vehicles and provides easy access to the canal trail for walkers, bicyclists, or kayakers One nice feature is that the canopy of trees provides shade in the summer if you take a stroll in the late afternoon or early evening. Be careful on the path as you're likely to encounter bicycles, joggers, and walkers. When it's not crowded, the trail is peaceful and the canal is calm. This is a great spot for easy access to the canal trail!

This is a very beginner friendly hike and it is right in my backyard…read more My area was gifted with beautiful weather this past weekend so I wanted to take advantage of the sun and explore some new trails in the area. This is within a mile of my apartment and is about 2.3 miles in length. Overall I recommend this trail if you are looking for something relatively flat and easy. It is not very long but is one straight line. So consider how far you want to walk. If you want the full length of the trail and back, you are walking close to 5 miles. It took me about 45 minutes to walk one way. But I also brought my camera along to stop and take some pictures along the way. Not super scenic as you are walking behind a few different apartment complexes. But you are walking along a really pretty body of water for most of it. So, there is some fun wildlife lingering around. All harmless. Another thing to note. I would definitely wear sneakers, and maybe a pair you don't mind getting dirty. While most of this trail is paved, there are some spots that are not and could potentially get muddy depending on the weather that week. I loved this hike and will definitely be coming back soon.

We even did a photo shoot with our dog a few years ago in the dog park. That was pretty dope. Being that this is a members only dog park - $25/year pending active dog license and current vaccinations for township residents - there is quite the comfort knowing that this place is secure, safe, and well maintained. Note that for people that don't live in South Brunswick, they can access the dog park for a fee of $200/year. I can't imagine anyone doing that. Just like other spots, there's an area for large dogs and small dogs. We've gone in the smaller section because our dog isn't that big. Just like you see in other places, there are two separate doors for security purposes. The first is accessible via key fob and the second opens up with your hook. Very secure. I do like that there are tennis balls in the dog park. Gives us something to play with. My dog was recently more interested in sniffing leaves than running around, but there are options, aren't there?
