The prices were pretty high, but the food was stellar. We had the Vol-au-Vent which was savory and stellar. Each bite was an explosion of umami in our mouths. The interior of the restaurant is a work of art, make sure to check it out. Knowledgeable server and our Flemish stew and Cod were very tasty. Attentive service but one has to remember this is Europe so the server will pretty much leave you alone to dine after the food is delivered, so enjoy your meal and the surroundings. read more

I ordered a cappuccino, and the "cappuccino" I got, barely had any coffee in it, just a cup of milk froth. When I told the waitress she started to explain to me what a Cappuccino was, like she was the one who invented it! Her excuse was "the machine made it this way", didn't offer to replace it with an actual cappuccino that I ordered, but insisted I still pay for the €5.5 for 50ml of frothed milk! The quality and flavor of the food is mediocre, and the service is awful. I got the Flemish beef stew. To be honest, it tastes like something a slow cooker meal: a cheap cut of meat that cooks all day to soften up. It's a very heavy, dense, and saucy stew, and they over salted the food. The fries that come with it are fine. Not bad, but nothing special. The service is pretty bad. I waved to my server to flag him down, and he waved back and mouthed "hello." Who does that?! I had to shout across the restaurant to ask for ketchup that didn't come. I ended up asking a second server for ketchup! I should have known better. This place has quirky, local decor. Almost reminiscent of Applebee's and TGIF's in the United States, minus the tacky elements. The wait staff even wears suspenders, which somehow seems cute and classy in Belguim California sad and tacky, as it does in the US. Food was good. However... We ordered too much food, and were commenting to each other that we felt absolutely stuffed to the brim . When we relayed this message to our server, she asked "full already?" We said sadly, yes, we could not eat anymore. She paused before looking at us Disapprovingly, and said in a quite stern voice: "so, Don't waste." As painful as it was, we completed the task of finishing almost all of our food, so as not to incur the wrath of our server. This is more of a restaurant than a pub, though they are more than happy just to serve you bear as opposed to a full blown meal. My brother had the spaghetti bolognese, which they do offer in a kid's size serving, which is perfect for him, and I ended up having some soup, which wasn't all that bad. However the thing that I loved about this place was the personalised service that you receive from the staff. It is almost as if they go out of their way to make sure that your meals are served to perfection and that you are satisfied. In fact I had a nice little chat with my waiter, which is something that you don't get from many places, even though there were quite a few people here. Wasn't expecting much after reading some of the reviews, but the food here was done pretty well. I had a delicious beef capriccio to start, which had the perfect mix with truffle oil. The Irish rib eye was solid, although nothing to write home about. I finished the meal with creme brulee, which was prob my least favorite part of the meal, it could have easily been something I picked up from a supermarket. This restaurant is a miserable JOKE. It ironically claims to offer 'rich taste' and 'royal service'. I ordered a vegetarian salad and asked to replace the feta cheese by mushrooms, which are also on the menu. The brunette waitress with tight ponytail said changing anything about a dish is impossible because 'she didn't want to fight with the cook'. When I asked her to bring me a slice of lemon with the salad, she said to 'ask her again when the salad arrives because she's really busy right now'. My partner asked for an ash tray 3 times, it finally arrived after 30 minutes. I cannot recall having received such lousy, arrogant, unprofessional service anywhere. The food itself was mediocre. The salad, which was supposed to be a main course, was tiny, so I left hungry. When I told the waitress about our dissatisfaction, she uncannily grinned. No apology or justification whatsoever, as if her vocabulary wasn't elaborated enough to formulate a decent reply. Let's say there is nothing 'royal' about the Royal Duke of Antwerp - they better call it The Poor Beggar of Antwerp. Never again! If I could give -1 star, I would. read more

We were on a day trip from Brussels a couple of weeks ago and very randomly stumbled into the Duke of Antwerp for a quick drink before our tour began. We sat at the end of the bar at one of those little output type of spots at the bar where four people could sit comfortably around. The bartender could not have been nicer or more accommodating. We had such a pleasurable experience that we decided to come back for a late lunch when our tour was over. Our lunch was sooooo good. Between the four of us, we ordered a Nicoise Salad, a pasta dish, and two smoked salmon and crab sandwiches. All dishes were very fresh and very good. Again, the service was spot on!!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone traveling to Antwerp. It is very conveniently located near the Central Train Station and the experience can't be beat!!! read more

I wanted an eclectic mix of local fare. Duke of Antwerp filled the bill. The cheese croquettes were delicious. I followed it with their version of ratatouille. The mushroom sauce selection for it perfectly. It was served with potato croquettes. The sampler dessert and espresso was the perfect ending. The waiter politely told us we can't enter because his boss would get mad that my family was eating outside food. Rude, brusque service with inattentive wait staff - skipped dessert on a relatively slow night because no one appeared interested in checking to see if we wanted something. Pretty terrible tourist trap right on the busy strip near the train station. I came for a ridiculously overpriced breakfast, which was at least decent but unspectacular. Service was abysmal. The grumpy waitresses barely cracked a smile, were horribly slow to get drinks, order food and had to ask for my bill 3 times before finally receiving it. It did have decor and location going for it, so wouldn't rule it out completely. I'd be comfortable taking a client there knowing it should be enough to impress them and close the deal. read more

i spent 1 hour waiting for my food to arrive, (I ordered the "duke meal" which is a packaged meal that is their specialty, so figure that should be straight forward for them. Comes with a soup, steak entree, and desert. The soup I got was a bowl of warm milk essentially. Had no flavor and sent it back.Waited for the entree, hoping at least they might fast track that as the soup was a failure. No, 30 mins later I told the waiter I was leaving. Continental breakfast here was good. Fresh squeezed juice, warm crusty bread, and crunchy, buttery croissant. The eggs was perfectly cooked. Just wish that it came with two eggs rather than one. read more

Great coffee, food is very nicely presented, although a little on the pricey side given the quality. Very good pancakes, the Duke's Continental breakfast was fine but average, and same with yogurt and fruit. The street-side location with views of the beautiful train station make for a pleasant dining experience. All in all a nice time. read more
