We are not really familiar with traditional English dishes and to our surprise we are not disappointed! We ordered the Rare Rump of West Country Beef, Fennel incrusted Dingley Dell pork belly Roast, Lemon & Herb Chicken. All was served with roasted potatoes, honey glazed carrots, cabbage, celeriac purée, Yorkshire pudding with gravy. All the meats were tender and juicy, even the pork belly's skin was crunchy which I enjoyed very much! We also ordered an appetizer which is the shrimp ceviche. The taste is different from other ceviche I've tried, there's no taste of cilantro and the sauce is like thousand island salad dressing. But I will still recommend this pub because of their classic English style pub atmosphere, the feel is different when you're inside! The roasts were delicious! The service was amazing, we had a lovely experience here.

Service was excellent--we were seated quickly and were able to order quickly as well. We were checked up on throughout our meal. We ordered cauliflower cheese for a starter and then two beef roasts. Unfortunately the food itself wasn't that great--I thought the cauliflower cheese was quite bland and not that cheesy. The roast was just okay, it's not something I would try here again. Overall I feel that there are better roasts in the area. I might come back here in the future to try other dishes as the service was excellent.

Nice building, shame about the restaurant!…read more Yes, they were busy, it was Easter Monday evening and, fair enough, we had to wait for a table to be cleaned before we could sit down. However, the table did just need cleaning but we were left waiting at the main entrance because the staff were busy serving (and forgotten that we were waiting!). Once seated, the waitress was hasty in coming to take our order so we ordered drinks. As the three people I was with asked for ginger beer, I asked for one too but also a jug of tap water. Our drinks were brought by a different server: 3 ginger beers, jug of water and 8 glasses alost filled with ice cubes. We then couldn't attract the attention of any waiting staff to request the missing drink! Our food arrived, at which point we reminded them about the 4th drink. The food was ok. We felt that the bar staff should rein back on the amount of ice cubes the dole out into the drinks glasses. None of us wanted ice in the ginger beer because it waters it down! The waiting staff seemed rushed off their feet but didn't come across as very friendly! For dessert, my 3 companions ordered waffles that were huge. I opted for a floater coffee which was fine, aside from the coffee grounds at the bottom! We all agreed that, all in all, we had had better meals elsewhere.

This has got to be the worst experience of my life, below is a letter that I have written to…read moreHarvesters Head Office! Around 2 years ago my wife & I had a problem with one of your waitress's, this was in regard to her being Very rude & condescending to both my wife & I as well as accusing us of stealing a bread roll & some butter pats unfortunately due to a malfunction with my computer I am unable to retrieve the relevant letter that I had drafted to you but I am confident that this letter will be in your files & I would ask you to be so kind as to send me a copy of this letter for my files. On the 31st, March 2015 my wife & I attended the Oakmere House Harvester Restaurant at the High Street Potters Bar EN6 5BT at around 15.00hrs. On arriving we waited for around 10 minutes to be seated & on two occasions we noticed that the waitress that had been so rude & ill mannered to us two years previously had seen us & had ignored us so I asked a girl from behind the bar if she could see to us, explaining that we had been waiting some time to be seated, she immediately came over & I asked her if we could sit by the window on a two setter table, at this stage she went to speak to this other rude waitress & when she returned she asked me if we wanted any drinks, I told her that I would like an empty glass so that I could mix coke & lemonade together she told me that it was "company policy Not to give customers empty glasses for them to top up their own glasses" I said "just leave it there pointing to the table" she said that I was being very rude to her & by me asking her to seat us was also very rude for we should have waited for a waitress to seat us as she was bar staff, I reiterate that we had been waiting for 10 minutes to be seated, she then went on to say that we had been barred from going to this Harvester & that my custom was Not wanted, I said that we had been coming to this particular Harvester for several years & that I had not been barred, she said "get out we will Not serve you" at this I walked out in disgust with my wife brushing a couple of knife & folks onto the floor. In a letter from you at the time of the original complaint that I had made about this very rude waitress you said that you had had a word with her & that their would not be any more problems with her, obviously this was Not the case. At the time of this complaint I also stated that another customer that was present at the time had said to us that he also had made a complaint in writing to your Head Office about the rudeness of this waitress & he to was assured that the problem had been looked into & that their would not be any more problems pertaining to this particular waitress, but on hearing what she said he had felt it necessary to tell me what had previously transpired with him so that I could relate this to you. All I wanted was to have a meal in a lovely setting with my wife but instead our day was ruined by your inconsiderate & ill mannered staff! Firstly I have Never been Barred from Any Harvester or any other establishment in my life, Secondly this is the Second time that this old crone has abused me & caused me to be embarrassed in front of my wife & Thirdly I am a man of sixty two years of age & in all my life I have Never been spoken to in such a disgusting & degenerate manner by a low life second rate person as is these members of your staff. On attending The Oakmere House on several occasions your waitress has refused to serve us & has got another waiter/waitress to serve us, she has made us feel uncomfortable & uneasy by leering over at my wife & I & has been seen to consistently talk to other members of your staff whilst looking over in our direction. The waitress that had told us that that we had been barred said that she had been told by your rude waitress. she said upon our departure that all that had transpired had been caught on video & that she had called the Police, had this been a man that had spoken to me so badly then he would have had just cause to do that but I did no more than brush a couple of knife & folks onto the floor as any video footage will show!

With this in mind you would think that they could handle a packed service. On every level they failed. Our waitress was new and didnt know the menu.. but not a problem as she was helpful in checking with the kitchen and really bubbly. We got menus quickly and drinks orders taken but we then waited 15 mins for our food order to be taken, after we had shut our menus and made repeated attempts to catch any staff members eye. I went to the bar to follow up on our drinks and the barman apologised for the service and said he would bring the drinks over. We then ordered our food and saw our drinks go to another waiter, then dissappear. Our waitress was managing a large area by herself and all around us were people waiting to pay, uncleared tables and a couple who left, clearly frustrated by the wait. We wondered if the other staff were on a break or something. After a futher 15 minutes I went and found our drinks on the wait staff station next to the other seating area. I could see our meals on the hot pass, so waited another 10 mins and as I got up to find the food our waitress arrived with the meals. The nachos my friend ordered were awful, an oblong dish with large helpings of sour cream and salsa over the nachos at either end and a few blobs of melted cheese - I said to send them back but we were so hungry by this point we didnt bother, so she redistributed the toppings herself. My steak wasnt too bad but had clearly been left sitting for some time and continued to cook under the hot lights/ dry out so it was quite chewy. Our poor waitress, who was covering a large area, by this point was joined by the manager and another waiter. The manager came over and answered our request for another round of drinks, we commented on how busy the waitress had been and that we thought she was doing the best she could under the circumstances and he launched into a jokey diatribe about how many teasets she had broken. The drinks never came and again I had to go to the bar to order them and bring them back to the table. We asked for our bill and it arrived after about 10 mins but without a card machine. By this point we were totally frustrated so went up to the bar to pay. All in all an awful experience - avoid this place!
