Caesar salad and seafood chowder. So good!

We stumbled upon this place after the original pkace we'd planned was fully booked. What a happy accident! They happened to have a soecial going - two starters, two mains and a bottle of wine for 40£. Not bad at all. Everything we had was very good, and it is evident that the staff care about service and the overall dining experience there.

Dukes Hotel was never somewhere I would have even considered in it's previous form. It has however been revamped and renovated recently and the chance is superb. Dukes at Queens is the new flagship restaurant nestling in the hotel building. It does a range of breakfast, lunch and dinner and prides itself on it's wood-fired traditional pizza oven. As far I remember the head chef used to work as a senior in Paul Rankin's kitchen which is something to be applauded. Anyway, the four of us sat down in the dinning area. Nicely wooded tables surrounding a huge stove in the middle for the pizzas. Bright, warm and airy inside you're immediately comfortable in your surroundings. We ordered a platter to share, a selection of antipasto. Superb. Thin slices of parma meaty, salty parma ham, thick chunks of fatty, oily salami, huge chunky, buttery and salty olives, fresh rocket and the star of the show, extra large capers. They were deliciously sweet and went brilliantly with the freshly baked bread provided. I thought the pizza oven needed to make it's impression so went for a simple pepperoni and jalapeño pizza. it did take a little bit longer than expected but it was certainly worth it. A reasonable size, covering a large plate. The crust was a little misshapen and bubbled which is usually a good sign of fresh dough. The base was crisp, not overly floured and topped with a thin layer of tangy tomato, stringy hot mozzarella and chunky pieces of pepperoni. Definitely one of the best pizzas I've had.

I adore Dukes at Queens. I come here for the fantastic pizza cooked in the middle of the restaurant in a huge oven- it really does make a difference! You can get whatever toppings you can think up on this and the large pizza is pretty big! The pizzas come out bubbling and slightly out of shape so you know they're good! They have a great wine list here and I love their Chianti! The restaurant is part of Dukes hotel and the luxury from the hotel winds its way effortlessly into the restaurant, whilst also enabling you to feel relaxed and at home. The staff are great and mix up a great cocktail. Dukes serves range of foods including Sandwiches, Soup, Panini's, Fish, Pasta dishes etc. But the Pizza's really are the main selling point!

Way back in the mists of time the drinking experience at Dukes was a rather rough and ready affair so when a friend suggested a quick drink there I had an involuntary shudder. Would it be full of drunken students and have a floor full of broken glass a la the mid-90's? Thankfully the place has changed beyond all recognition and after walking up the impressive steps and into the chic lobby I was ready for a whole different experience. We settled in the bar to the left and the décor can only be described as unique...I felt I had walked into a James Bond 'baddies' lair. The whole room was done out in purples and black with low slung leather chairs and glitzy mirrors on the walls. After a beer or two we began to settle into the environment and it was obviously a 'lost afternoon' could easily occur in here. Having plans for later we called it a day and headed out blinking into the hustle and bustle of Botanic Avenue. Pros: Laidback, large raised outside terrace, acclaimed brassiere next door. Cons: Pricey drinks.

Barking Dog Restaurant - beef shin burger is definitely not your average burger

I've had my fair share of memorable burgers from coast to coast in America, but just glancing at a picture of the beef shin burger transports me back across the pond to the Barking Dog. I remember the few days I spent in Belfast fondly and of the many memories, my meal at the Barking Dog was a definite highlight. In a rather quaint and charming neighborhood, I took a nice short stroll from my Airbnb and came across this gem of an establishment and decided I had to check it out. I had a nice beer to start, and it wasn't a Guinness because stouts aren't my thing, but whatever it was I remember it being excellent and local. Undoubtedly you could make this place a regular haunt and there is no shortage of drinks and food options to make this a go-to for a date, celebration, or a quick meal. The staff are welcoming, kind, and helpful and the general atmosphere is chill. The food for me was ethereal - a burger isn't just a burger here and what you get when you bite into the beef shin burger is a little slice of Heaven. Moist and tender are a given but the taste is just so divine with the caramelized onion, cheddar, and horseradish mayo melding into an union of perfection. It's hard not to describe one of the most memorable meals of my life in such hyperbole but the vivid recall I have of this particular place is uncanny and merits all the praise I can heap upon the fine folks that run the place. If timing had worked out, I would have eaten as meals here as I could have but I'll thank my lucky stars for at least giving me one opportunity to eat such a wonderful burger at such a wonderful eatery. A+ and a definite must when visiting Belfast.

It seems weird that I haven't yet reviewed Solo, this is because I have always attended events at…read moreSolo and not actually had a genuine meal experience, that is until yesterday... The interior of Solo is sophisticated, without being overly fancy - this is a good thing, it has a real feeling of diversity - you get the impression that you could go in and feel comfortable having a meal in jeans and a T-shirt as well as a business suit. There's a real warmth to the staff, they always engage in a wee bit of banter and are always on hand to help you out with a smile. The menu is diverse, you can have Asian style food, Tapas or classics like a burger. Yesterday I opted for a starter of Salted Chili Chicken and I think I convinced most of my table to join me. The salted chili chicken is truly amazing, it's gourmet style so get the idea of a takeaway out of your head. The flavours are epic and the the dip on the side compliments the chicken perfectly. For main I went for a steak sandwich, when ordering I was asked how I wanted my steak cooked, even by asking this question it shows the chef has real pride in his food regardless of what it is! The steak came out cooked exactly to my specification, it was accompanied by a a side salad and rustic chips - perfect for what I wanted! Solo is the type of place that you could easily lose track of time in, it's got that stay bar type feel. If you're looking for somewhere for a big group then look no further the staff are easily capable of dealing with large groups! Top notch all round!

Well, well, well haven't Maze rebranded themselves well and now shine as Solo restaurant! I visited…read moretonight as part of a Yelp Secret Supper Event and was delighted with the service, wine, cocktails and gorgeous Vegetarian food I received. We were greeted on arrival with a glass of Sangria swimming with fresh, tangy fruit. I dined on a beautiful Vegetarian tapas platter of deep fried mozzarella sticks in sweet chilli sauce, bruschetta, olives, sundried tomatoes, manchego cheese and toasted almonds - pure lush (as per usual all my Carnivore friends were green with envy hahahahaha)! Dessert was a trio of cheesecake, rich chocolate pot and a chocolate torte. Wine wasn't too bad either, cocktails fabulous, service attentive and staff delightful. Will definitely be returning to Solo soon and am looking forward to my next visit. Plus the decor and atmosphere of this restaurant is modern and luxurious. Would highly recommend Solo as it's now a sensational spot.
