Around this time last year I hired them to install a shower in my house. As the project went along, I kept seeing the subcontractor that Tony sent to do installation doing things I didn't think were right. I had an idea of what needed to be done on the project, but I didn't have the experience to trust myself to do it right and thought hiring a contractor was a good idea to make sure it was done right instead of it being a bad DIY project. I literally pointed out all things I thought were wrong as the project was going along, because I thought things didn't look right from what I'd researched of how the work was supposed to be done, and was repeatedly told he knew what he was doing and to trust him, since he's a licensed general contractor. What was supposed to be a 2 day project turned into 8 days (2 days of them not knowing how to install a shower door and trying to figure out how to do it), and when they were done, the hot water didn't work. They refused to fix the issue with the hot water without me paying extra for hot water, saying it was due to defective plumbing in my house. I realized they wouldn't stand by the quality of their work, since they didn't deliver a fully working shower to me and I knew the hot water was working just fine there, because I tested it before hiring them. So, I called a handyman, who fixed the hot water issue in about 5 minutes, and found it was because they installed the mix tap handle incorrectly and if they'd read the installation manual, they'd have seen the mistake they made. The handyman who fixed it even offered, out of nowhere, to testify against them if I sued, because he said any competent handyman or contractor should have seen that fault. Then, when the shower finally has hot water, I quickly find out the door (that took 2 days to install because they didn't know how to install it) was poorly installed and not able to block water from flowing out below the door and getting the bathroom floor wet, and water flowed out from under the door whenever I used the shower. I had to improvise a solution to that just to be able to shower, because even after taking two days to install it, they couldn't get the door right! Then, after using the shower a few times more times after that, I found the floor in adjoining rooms of the house was getting wet and water leaking out of the carpet! The shower wasn't watertight and was leaking into the rest of the house every time I ran the shower! I now had to stop using the shower to limit damage to my house, and have to find a way to get the shower replaced (and any water damage fixed)! Since they didn't stand by their work when it came to something as petty as misinstalling the mix tap so only cold water came out, I knew they wouldn't stand by the fact the whole shower was unusably defective and damaging my house! I talked to a lawyer who specializes in suing contractors. He said I had a very strong case for a negligence suit if I wanted to pursue it, but he said it would be cheaper and quicker to just hire another contractor to rip it out and put in a new one than to hire an attorney, so I had to look for a contractor to hire to rip out the shower, and reinstall it. I did eventually choose a contractor to replace this. Every contractor that I brought in to examine the situation was horrified at how terrible the work was. They all pointed out the major flaws I pointed out as it was being done and was told "trust me" about. I've had a dozen contractors tell me that this was visibly, obviously poorly done, and more than one of them told me that if the subcontractor who put this in worked for them, they'd fire them on the spot. I spent thousands of dollars for lousy DIY-grade work. I'm pretty sure that I, not knowing what I'm doing and working entirely off how-to books and YouTube tutorials, could have done a better job! I wasted thousands of dollars on hiring them, they have no idea what they are doing on shower installation. Avoid them. Literally the only reason I'm not suing them for negligence is that I was advised by an attorney it would be cheaper and quicker to just hire another contractor to replace what they installed than go through the courts to get what I was told would be a slam-dunk verdict (or settlement) from them. I've finished having a completely different contractor rip out the shower they installed, and put a new one in. . .and as they went along removing what Cross Construction put in, they were horrified at the sloppy, poor quality work. They were boggled at the amateurish job as they took it apart to replace it, constantly pointing out how poorly the tile was done, and the licensed plumber they brought in was shocked at the drain they installed (that he had to replace). I wasted thousands of dollars on hiring Cross Construction. Avoid them.

We bought an older home a year ago, and it's needed some improvements. I received several estimates…read moreon replacing and leveling our floors. The first three estimates I received were extremely high involving a lot of structural changes to my floors. When I questioned the reasoning behind such drastic actions the contractors would begin altering their quote by saying "some of these alterations can wait" or "we can do without some of these things...." Cross Construction gave me an estimate that addressed the issues I wanted fixed. They were very transparent on what the estimate entailed and the length of time it would take to complete. The cost of the repairs and improvements were about half of what I had been getting from the others. The work was completed quickly by professionals who took great pride in their work. I highly recommend Cross Construction. I have already hired them to do a second project on my house!

Fortunately, the Scott County Fire Department responded quickly and extinguished the fire just before flames reached the attic. The next day, Sam Richardson came out to examine the damage and make a repair estimate. He returned on the 24th with the estimate met with the insurance adjuster. This meeting resulted in a more thorough and complete repair estimate and insurance settlement. On the 26th, a Polis team came out and sealed the window, which had blown out during the fire. This action was extremely important for us considering the sub-freezing temperatures at the time. Sam scheduled repairs to begin on a 10-day time frame beginning on November 28th. Polis teams completed repairs and clean up on schedule, in spite of cold temperatures and outside work. I feel very fortunate to have contracted Polis. The photos are an indication of the quality of their work. Polis is a family-owned business. Sam quickly assessed our needs and reacted quickly to complete repairs. I highly recommend this business. Sam Richardson has considerable experience in home repair and construction. His employees are very competent and committed to timely-job completion. I also want to commend Elizabeth Richardson, Sam's wife, who handles scheduling and essentially manages the business. Their charges are reasonable, and the photos reflect the quality of their work.
