I had a motor that had gone bad in my 30 year old garage door opener, and they sent a technician, John, out the same day I called for service. John looked completely over the old opener, and determined whether or not it could be salvaged. As I expected, the age of the old opener forced me to consider replacement, as there were very few options on replacement parts for such an aged piece of equipment. John went over all the possible choices they had available and costs, including chain driven versus belt driven openers. Since the one I was replacing lasted for so long, I decided to go with a similar chain driven model. It also happened to be the least expensive route. About two hours later John had removed the old and replaced with the new. In that time, I was also able to find an admittedly small coupon online, which John honored. He also threw in an extra remote free of charge. This business was top notch, from the pleasant call I had with them in the morning to the technician in the afternoon. Disappointed...three weeks ago I had this company fix my garage door because it was off track. They responded the next day and the tech suggested that I also have the rollers replaced which I agreed. The total including the service call was $241.00. Today a flag pole fell in the track unbeknownst to me and of course the door went off track so I called the company to fix it. The total was $135.00 for the service call with no parts replaced. I understand that a business has to make a profit to stay open but I was hoping for a discount and it did not happen. I didn't have my coffee this morning and tried to back out of my garage before opening the door. The door was bent, and would no longer stay in the rails. Precision Door Service sent someone over to look at the door within an hour of calling them. They offered to try to fix my existing door rather than replace it if I would have preferred that. The offer was much appreciated but I'd already decided to replace it. I just needed a builder-grade door (nothing special), and they happened to have one in their warehouse of the right size and color. They installed the replacement door that same day--which was much appreciated given that Christmas was in 3 days (I was sure no one was going to be able to schedule something this year). Today Precision Door Service came out on what I thought was a follow-up to a repair job they did a couple of weeks ago. The door worked once or twice after they came the first time, and then stopped working. When I called about that, I gave their representative a detailed description, and she said she would send someone out. When the tech came out, he flipped a switch on the manual opener, and the door worked. My main complaint is that when I described the problem (I have the audio recording), the rep should have immediately recognized the probable cause of the problem, and advised me to flip the switch. Or if she didn't know the answer, she should have had the technician call me before coming out. With all the years the company has been in business, they must have encountered the same situation countless times, and have chosen to charge $85 for a needless service call rather then resolve the issue in a simple phone call. Just like another review here, the technician slapped an advertisement for his company on my wall without my prior knowledge or consent, and against my wishes. (I was able to remove it before the adhesive dried) For those reasons, I will never use their services again, and I would advise others to steer clear of Precision Door. read more

Contracted with Precision Door Service of Lexington based on Angie's List reviews and the reviews on Precision's website. I assumed based on these reviews that they would do a quality job at a competitive price. Prior to arranging for Precision to do the work I obtained quotes from 3 local competitors to replace my garage door springs with quality long life replacement springs. All 3 companies are reputable and have been in business for many years. The 3 all inclusive quotes were: Competitor R - $210, Competitor O - $220, Competitor A - $205. I have had prior positive experiences with 2 of the 3 and should have just went with one of them. But based on reviews I read I decided to arrange for Precision Door Service to replace the springs, even though they wouldn't give me a firm quote over the phone. Once Precision arrived they quoted $310 or 50% higher than their competitors. I declined their service, paid their $70 service fee to provide a grossly overpriced quotation and contracted with Competitor A who did the job as they quoted for $205. Competitor A also provided a very adequate warranty. My assumption is that reviews are, or should be, based on price and quality of work. After this bad experience I come across a Dateline NBC investigative story on the Precision Door Service organization that paints a very poor picture of the company. read more
