With the price, we also got dance lessons which were a BIG help for our 1st dance! Starlina was so helpful and professional before and during the wedding! She made the whole wedding planning process so much easier. Choosing this venue for my big day was the best decision I made. Essentia was absolutely perfect and I would recommend Essentia to ANYONE for ANY occasion. The staff is amazing, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the decor is breath-taking.

When trying to pay for this venue, we hit some snags financially since I was in between jobs. I would call at least a week in advance to let her know if a payment would be delayed. (This only occurred twice) Even with the notice Starlina was very rude and not flexible at all. We tried to let that go, and we did. We did notice that she only seemed concerned after we paid. She was not friendly at all until she was paid in full. Then we wanted more dance lessons to show off. We forked out for those lessons too! When we realized our budget was getting out of hand we tried to reason with her. Now full disclosure here, yes in the venue contract it says no refunds. But here is our problem with that. We just let her know yesterday about our change in plans because of budget. Our wedding was not even going to be until October 2016 and we booked her in August of 2015. Well over a year in advance and we cancelled well in advance as well. She did not even want to do a refund even on the dance lessons, which no contract was ever signed saying we could not get our money back. (We only did 3 out of 10 lessons) What seemed so outrageous is that anytime we tried to schedule lessons, she was ALWAYS BOOKED!!! I would get off work at 5pm but we had our dances at 7:30pm. Then every time we talked to her or other customers it seemed she always had some kind of event going on almost all week! So we knew she had plenty of time to fill the day with another event and fill our unused lesson days with other people. The thing about all of this is that we were not even asking for all of it back, at the very least we only wanted half back. Plus, the 2 times I met her mother she would be rude to her in front of me. Be family and do what you do, but be professional in front of customers, no speaking down to your mother! Now she is mad about the review on Wedding wire and disputed it. Good luck because I will just do this every where else! Oh and before she tries to say she offered to help us with the dance lesson money back, she only did so after I told her I would post a review and let people know our experience! David and team brought this connection together! This venue is absolutely gorgeous. From the moment you walk towards the door, you see at the corner of the building, the unassuming yet illuminating Zen sign presence. The foyer greets with such high beautiful ceilings (and walls) with the artistic lighting. There are two other space to enter. If you continue straight, you enter a much larger area that has on its walls, wonderfully large paintings of flowers evoking both energy yet calmness. I discovered that Jeff, the owner had painted the walls and can see the nice brushstroke patterns along with the majority of the flower paintings. We were for the most part in this area which is shaped like a gigantic "L" and you would go further in and to the bottom foot area find a large bar awaiting. There was also a table of desserts and a musician. There were the hors d'oeuvre standing tables yet with nice high seats along with the comfy chairs. We had our networking, food, drinks, and murder mystery here. I've been to Zen many times in the past for several different non-profit/charity events and always so well done. This room depending on the size of attendees is an ideal spot for these types of reception/activities. If you had gone over to the right from the foyer, you would enter a huge space that has on the complete opposite side some large screen that projector is displaying and lighting. There are tables with seats and this brings back memories of when the company I worked for held their holiday parties here and this would also double up as a dance floor! There's another bar right underneath the staircase, and if you walk up the stairs, not only do you have a great view of this room (and if you were trying to search for someone dancing, walk up the stairs and gently look for your man) it also has a private suite that can act as the bridal room since such great furniture, a kitchen and bathroom complete with shower (so if you start getting cold feet, you can turn the heat on your feet)! Not only does Zen have these different space and levels, they even have an exterior space, their own zen garden. I've never noticed it before since other times I've been here, it would be dark and couldn't see OR since it was December, they had tents with heaters. There are many different options to use this beautiful place and Jeff is extremely down-to-earth and inviting. Besides hosting such fancy events, he also has hosted various dance parties. If you or the organization/company/group you identify with have a need for up to 350 people, this would be ideal!

Brandi Manley was steadfastly professional and accommodating. The Commerce Club package was simple and appropriately priced. The food was so delicious! The view was spectacular! The wait staff was pleasant, courteous and energetic. Brandi embraced and accommodated all of our special customs, including Pittsburgh cookie table in the beautiful wine room and a ceremonial foot washing. She also coordinated so well with all of the other vendors, especially collaborating on the timeline. One thing I would suggest is asking for the blinds to be drawn day of until the event starts as all the windows to help with cooling. This would just make it even better. It was par excellence!
