Today the Lake Worth Playhouse hosts a children's summer theater camp, movies, drag bingo, fundraisers, concerts, tribute bands ... This evening I was invited by PBS to On the Town in the Palm Beaches 'Set Jetting Screening Event with Frank Lacari. The stadium seating was very comfortable with a lot of legroom. When we walked into the historic theater we passed markers, plaques and photographs detailing the history of this 100+ theater in its 74th season. The Oakley, brothers from Illinois opened a movie and vaudeville theater in Lake Worth. They purchased this 55 ft plot on Lake Ave. In 1924, they spent $150,000, then considered a fortune & the Oakley Theater opened, screening the silent film Welcome Stranger. Four years later the theater was devastated by the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane, "the largest single loss in the city", according to The Palm Beach Post. The roof collapsed with only the stage and some offices surviving the storm. They reopened in 1929 with sound only to get bankrupted by the depression. In the 1950's & 70's it was The Playtoy with pornography, being raided 10+ times. In 1974, the Lake Worth Playhouse Organization purchased the Playtoy, for $60,000. Since the theater was renovated & has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2005, Hurricane Wilma tore part of the roof, destroyed equipment, flooded dressing rooms & damaged the stage. Repairs were made in time for the 2024 centennial with a Roaring Twenties-style party.

We had purchased our tickets a week earlier and were lucky enough to score some aisle seats seven rows back from the stage. When we entered the Playhouse to find our seats we were very happy with our seats. As we looked around we both noted that there are really NO bad seats in the house. It looks like excellent viewing from each area and seat. Another part of our enjoyable evening was the Play, players and the genuinely appreciative audience. So happy we came and look forward to upcoming shows and continued support of the Lake Worth Playhouse!

I recently visited this restaurant for lunch as a way to thank a friend for his help, and the…read moreexperience was very pleasant overall. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, creating a comfortable setting for our meal. I ordered the key lime chicken tacos, which were slightly spicy but very flavorful. The beer‑battered onion rings were exceptionally crispy and delicious. My friend chose the fried grouper sandwich with fries and commented that it was very good and impressively not greasy. For dessert, I tried the key lime pie with a pecan crust. While I appreciated the creativity, it wasn't my favorite. I found the crust less appealing, and the filling could have used a bit more tartness to achieve that classic key lime balance. Despite the dessert not meeting my expectations, the overall dining experience was enjoyable, and the quality of the food and atmosphere made for a pleasant lunch.

We had never really eaten here besides a a slice of pie, but we had a gift card. I went in with low expectations, knowing this place is all about the dock bar destination. We started with the fish dip, which was heavy on the mayo. Not one of the better ones we've had but it was alright. The dinner really wasn't very good. I got the blackened mahi sandwich with fries. Fries were soggy and the mahi was over-salted. My wife had the tacos and she said they were only ok. The side of rice she got was overcooked until crispy. Our server, Alfred, however, was great, and made sure we were having a good time. We'll come back for a slice of pie and/or drinks, but the entrees were disappointing.

It brought me back to my childhood. We were greeted by a very tall guy and looked like the manager. He was so much fun and really, really nice and then our server Sarah, came over. She was a hoot and a half made some suggestions, told us what to get these were her favorites and it was a home run ball hit out of the park.. We started with the pretzel and the bear cheese. Absolutely delicious, the pretzel was very light and the bear cheese had so much flavor to it. Three of us got burgers that were absolutely mouthwatering you bite into it and you went. oh yes, one bite burger!! This is the place to go. My girlfriend got a grilled chicken sandwich. It was absolutely delicious and the chicken she said was seasoned perfectly. Just sitting there, looking all around, brought us back to our childhood the antiques on the ceiling on the wall on the table every direction was so much fun. If I could give this place 10 stars are 100 stars I would do it. We cannot wait to go back. Thank you, Sarah we will ask for you when we go back. you were fabulous. See you all soon XOXO Andrea.

We ordered burgers (big and tasty!) and the pulled pork sliders on pretzel buns with beer cheese--fantastic. Daniel was the sweetest. Definitely try the sweet potato fries with marshmallow fluff (trust me!). They also have a huge beer selection... which we didn't try this time. Next visit!

I'm a bit torn on how to review this. I went tonight with a friend. The bartender was really nice,…read moreexplained everything clearly and made suggestions. He suggested we get Kava and a tea. We started with the "punch in the face" which is a very strong kava alongside a pink lemonade tea. Kava tastes pretty vile if I'm being honest. Like straight up mud. But of course that's not the bar's fault. And it was sort of fun to drink out of the metal shell. The tea tasted a bit weird but it was okay. I didn't like that it came in a pre made bottle but it was fine. After that we tried one of the flavoured kava shots. I still thought it tasted nasty but my friend liked it. Kava also makes your tongue really tingly just FYI. We also got one of their mixed tea drinks. They have a lot of flavors to choose from, we got ocean water. This tasted really good, it was probably the only thing I'd get again. We felt much more inebriated than we expected to but it was okay. What wasn't okay was how our stomachs turned soon after we left. We were extremely nauseous and my friend threw up a lot. We did a quick Google search and found this is actually a pretty common reaction for beginner kava drinkers, especially if you have a good amount. I really think the bartender should have told us to be careful and let us know we were drinking a lot and might get sick. When we first walked in he told us "it's like being tipsy but you're not impaired, you can still drive, and you won't feel like shit." Neither of these things were true. We felt like shit and we had to wait to drive because we were tipsier than we expected to be. The effects of the substance are not the bar's fault, but I believe they should be informed of these likely possibilities and be more up front about them.
