Nice shop with a large range but both the cafe and payment desk involved long queues so overall I was not delighted. read more

Harveys Furnishing

I visited this store the day after Boxing Day which is key sofa sale time. The retail park has six…read moredifferent sofa retailers so you'd expect there to be decent service on hand. Harveys had the largest range of fabrics in the type of sofa that I wanted and in the sale it was about £500 cheaper for the items that I wanted that one of the other stores. However the two sales assistants that I dealt with were super unhelpful and didn't know basic questions or how to work the ordering system. It got to the point that I considered walking out and spending £500 more in the other store. The full story is below but dear god they were bad. The first sales assistant couldn't tell me how long the sofa was without getting a tape measure. Fair enough, until we found that they have cards with all the dimensions on them and pictures of the full range. I asked about colour options and got a vague look over there reply. When we returned we avoided asking the first assistant for help and asked another if they had a bigger sample of pattern that I was considering. He said no, as my mum appeared with a cushion of it that she'd spotted on the other side of the store. Having moved half the cushions around the store to attempt to colour match a patten with a plain sofa (with no suggestions from the sales assistant) I was ready to order. I told the sales assistant the type of sofa I wanted in a three seater sofa bed. 'Sorry that doesn't come in a sofa bed' was the reply. Yes it does and the one on display is a three seater sofa bed. Next challenge finding it on the till/ordering system. He had to go to the other side of the store twice to ask for help in how to process the order. I wasn't ordering anything that unusual. Except matching scatter cushions, apparently no one orders them and they are very unusual to order in the system. At £60 for two I kind of understand why but I wanted two of the same pattern as the armchair. A further fuss was made when I asked for two samples of each of the fabrics rather than just one of each. Apparently they usually only give one per customer. I know it's a busy time of year but sofas are major purchase and I really didn't expect for ordering to be quite such a hassle and no assistants from the staff. So yep good sofas and colour choices but Rubbish staff.
Awful and terrible staff. Good furniture though…read more Went into Harveys Milton Keynes one morning, with my Mrs to buy her some leather sofas I had promised her for a long time. As we walked in there were about 6 sales people in the middle of the floor in huddle idly talking and laughing amongst themselves. They collectively gave us one snotty look and all 6 evaporated (some upstairs, others to the back and the rest grabbed papers pretended to look busy and walked off). As we walked around looking at the sofas 2 of the saleswomen (who both look and acted like Mrs Hyacinth Bucket of Keeping Up Appearances *you know who you are*) circumvented me and my wife and went back to the entrance and served people who had entered behind us. It was blantantly obvious that our money is not good enough in Harveys, maybe we are not "Harveys type" people, who knows. After about 15 minutes of us wandering around checking out sofas and as we were leaving some sales guy half heartedly approached us but it was too late for me. In this economic climate I'm amazed by what happened to us. The sofas were good but the staff are shit. Ended up buying from DFS across the road. At DFS they even gave me their business cards. I hope Harveys doesn't shut down but if it does I for one won't miss it. I don't ever comment on stores but this was was too much....

It used to be where Toys 'r Us now is but moved to its current larger premises around five years ago. The store is excellent for buying anything DIY related and also for looking at furniture for the home. The garden section is good, but the selection of plants isn't as good as B&Q. Look out for good deals on their home furniture, kitchens and bathrooms. We recently purchased a couple of sofas on a two for one offer. Look out for their 10% weekends and if you know anybody that works for Argos or Homebase then ask them about the 20% friends and family weekends.

They do sell the more traditional diy items and products such as tools and diy materials. The only problem I find with them is that of the major DIY stores such as B&Q and Wickes, Homebase is really the most expensive across all ranges. OK, they have great paint ranges and a whole range of tools, screws and bolts, but I don't really want to pay up to twice as much as I could get the same item for is somewhere like Wickes.
