Got day old donuts there. Not going back. They were turning stale, but they still sold them at full price! I want fresh!

But when we arrived, right after they opened on a Sunday morning, we were told that they only serve "what we refer to as 'brunch' on Sundays", and were handed paper menus with five items on it. Slightly confused, hoping we could still order off of their main menu, we waited for the waitress to return with our coffee (three Americanos and one latte). And we waited. And then we waited. And we waited some more. While we waited, three other parties came in, sat down, questioned the menu, then got up and left. Had it been just us that had that reaction to the abbreviated menu, I would have voted to woman up and just stay put. I didn't want to be "those tourists" who get all riled up about something local that doesn't fit their expectations. But once we (finally!) got our coffee and asked the waitress for clarification, we realized we had to go. The menu was the menu. Their sides - which are referenced on the menu but are never explained - were lackluster for the "base" and even less impressive for the "premium" options, which of course would have cost us even more money. That, paired with the uninspired and surprisingly one-note menu just drove us right out the door. My latte was at least delightful, but that's all I can say. Also, the place was likely very clean, because we were hit by a powerful smell of disinfectant and/or cleaner when we walked in. And finally, the waitress removed my menu after she saw me taking a picture of it. She didn't touch anybody else's menu, just mine.

The entrance has some significant potholes so watch as you enter or leave, but the opening is very wide so you can maneuver around them pretty easily. This area is also used for the stockyards so there were several trucks with trailers but they tended to park further away from the restaurant. There are steps to the entrance, but there is a ramp on the left side as well. There is also a handicapped space at the bottom of the ramp, but you will need to walk through the gravel lot so plan accordingly. The entrance is at the bottom of a U-shaped bar. All seating is at the bar so large parties will be spread out. It you do have a large party, try to get a corner so you can talk easier. I was able to find a seat along the right side. There were quite a few regulars, evidenced by the joking between them and the staff. The place can get loud with all the conversation, but everyone is friendly and the staff is accommodating. While the kitchen is in the rear, the drinks, cups, silverware, etc. are all in the middle of the bar. This area is quite busy as all the staff maneuvers through here. It did seem waitresses were experienced and took care of both sides of the bar. The building itself is pretty run down but "well used" does not indicate dirty or unsafe, just that is has a lot of history. I ordered the biscuit with gravy and sausage and added two eggs for an additional dollar. The food came out in about ten minutes. The biscuit and gravy were very good and the eggs were cooked as ordered. The sausage was dry but was OK when added to the biscuit and gravy. My coffee never got below half a cup. It was a relatively warm morning, and the restaurant started to heat up while I was there. It appears they only have a wall air conditioner which cannot keep up with all the heat generated in the restaurant. It was not uncomfortable but could be that way in the summer. Betty's is a homey local spot with a decent breakfast for a good price.

If it was bigger and had tables, you'd feel like you were having breakfast at your grandmas house. The staff is friendly and the little time you do wait you can peruse all the wall decorations. I was on my way back from the Saturday stages in Newport for the Overmountain Rally Tennessee and being that it was after 10pm, basically my options were fast food or nothing. I was facing a lot of 'closes soon' on the restaurant lookup but saw Perkins was open until midnight. Dead tired, I pulled in about 11, chatted with the equally tired waitress about suggestions, and decided on a Belgian waffle, eggs over medium, bacon, and a pair of strawberry cream fried roll things I forget what they called them. The place was pretty empty that late at night, with only a few tables taken up. It was well lit and mercifully quiet. Everything showed up in about 5 minutes. The waffle was great, the syrup didn't taste fake, there was just enough butter, eggs were exactly as I asked, and the bacon was likewise as crispy as I wanted. Maybe I was starving, since I don't eat much when I'm on the stage for the whole day, but either way it was really good. The strawberry cream things, I only ate half of one. It was a better version of the ones they have at McDonald's. The only thing taking a star from this is that I couldn't get one strawberry and one apple. I did take them with me and ate them for breakfast the next morning. They were still good despite not being refrigerated. I'll probably be back again next year after another long Saturday.

She asked what we wanted to drink and I stated that we were ready to place our order. She abruptly stated drinks first. Okay, not a problem. Then, it took a while to get the food, and they were not that busy. I had turkey/dressing/mashed potatoes/broccoli. The potatoes first, were not real like they use to be, and second cold. Yes, I could have sent them back but why would cold food be delivered. As well, the stuffing was cold. Hubby ordered the steak/peppers and stated his was not that warm either. In zooming by we got asked if everything was okay but I'm not sure we would have had time to answer. So, yes, I could have said something but no, I did not because I shouldn't have to wait for my food to be taken and reheated so I could eat it. This is probably our last Perkins visit. It has really gone downhill.

I am an early riser so I tend to try to get out to eat just as places open. Thus, my pictures usually show empty seats. Do not let this deter you from trying this place. The decor is nostalgic and tasteful. It is spacious yet cozy. You seat yourself so I chose a booth along the front wall. My waitress was prompt and steady checking on my coffee level. The menu had plenty of options from omelets and wraps to breakfast sandwiches and full plate orders including biscuits and gravy. Sorry I forgot to take a menu picture. When my plate arrived, I wasn't sure I could eat it all. As I began to eat my senses were overwhelmed by all the flavors. It's definitely a great spot to get filled and enjoy good food. They also serve lunch. So a trip back later in the day is warranted.

The easiest way to find it is look for a building that looks like an auto body shop. Parking is on gravel adjacent to the building. The spaces are not marked. There is a handicapped sign to the left of the door. There are a few spaces across the street and more on the side of the building. There is a concrete sidewalk in front of the building. The gravel lot is even with the sidewalk on the right side but there is a small step up on the left. The entrance door is in the middle of the building. Walking in, there is a counter to the left where you pay. Bathrooms are straight ahead in the rear. Seating is a mix of booths and various sized tables. Seating is plentiful but well-spaced so maneuvering around is no problem. There was a sign to seat yourself so we picked a booth along the front of the building near the row of windows. Decor is auto related as would be expected. Lighting is bright without being overpowering. Our server arrived in less than a minute to bring the menus and take our drink order. She returned with the drinks in a couple minutes and took our lunch order. The drinks were in very large, maybe 32oz cups. Our server did come by near the end of the meal to ask if we wanted a refill but we still had just under half the drink left. The food took about 10 minutes to arrive. The bacon cheeseburger was very good. The burger was hot and juicy and served on a fresh and soft bun as large as the patty. The lettuce, tomato and onion were fresh, cold, and crisp. The onion rings were also very good. The batter was crisp and the onion slightly soft, an excellent combination. The Western burger was another winner. The sautéed mushrooms were not mushy and had a nice sauce accompanying them. The sauteed onion and white cheese added additional depth. The meat was juicy and flavorful and the bun soft and fresh. The french fries were thin and crispy but had a nice softness inside. This was an excellent lunch, and each burger was a wonderful flavor sensation. The french fries and onion rings were an excellent accompaniment and deserve mention on their own. Bond-o to Burger also does breakfast and I look forward to trying that soon as well.

In 33 years of living, every time I go to a Krispy Kreme or a Dunk n Donuts it's the same thing…read more The donuts on display are made an hour in advance and just sit there waiting to be bought meaning they aren't fresh. This Krispy Kreme has the single most genius approach I have every seen in my life. Right next to where you buy the donuts, there's a window. Inside the window you can see the donuts being mass produced on a conveyor belt. First both sides of the donut go in the fryer, then they go through a stream of the white cream. Just watching everything in constant motion like this is beyond intriguing to me. If I wasn't there to buy a donut, I would come just to watch the conveyor belt, it's just that fascinating. I was SO impressed by the genius system this Krispy Kreme had in place, I requested to speak with the manager. After explaining who I am and what I do here, I mention I'm tempted to give this Krispy Kreme a 5 star review just because of the conveyor belt there for all to see. And that's BEFORE trying their food. He gave me from the conveyor belt a free donut to try, and it was to die for. Needless to say, I'm majorly impressed. They've earned this 5 star review. EDIT: Today is 2/28/24. A few weeks prior when I showed up wanting to buy donuts and take shelter from the rain, I was greeted with this message. "Lobby is closed. Due to lack of staff. Please use Drive Thru. Sorry for the inconvenience." Now back to present day, it's still there. So you're short staff? Not the customer's problem. Hire new staff! Or is this one of those case where somewhere needs staff, and either they don't want to pay for more staff, or is very restrictive who they hire when THEY NEED STAFF? This isn't the Covid-19 outbreak of 2020 anymore. You don't get the excuse anymore. No other store in the area has staffing issues. It's probably a case they don't want to bother cleaning up after customers. And that REALLY stinks given you get to see the donut conveyor belt do it's thing. I'm now forced to give you 3 out of 5 stars. No effort has been taken to get more staff. Obviously you aren't hurting that badly from the lack of staff.
