Upon arrival we had trouble getting in the front door because of two large dogs which were blocking the door and jumping up on us. Poor customer service from the beginning.
We were taken into the bar and given a bill for $2100 plus taxes. I immediately complained and said the price we were quoted was $1500 for the week.
Although the bill was voided and we were charged the proper price, the girl was very rude about it.
Had there been any other rooms available in Elliot Lake we would have left immediately. There was nothing deluxe or luxury to justify the price we were charged for that room.
When we got to the room it smelled of wet dog. There was a half empty beer sitting inside the room. It was obvious that it had not been cleaned.
There were boxes of sink/vanity parts sitting on one of the couches and on top of a chest in the dining area. We had just spent 3 days travelling across the country and were tired and just wanted to make the best of the situation, but the more we looked around the worse it got.
There was no light in the bathroom shower and our son had to change the bulb himself because no staff was there to do it. The light fixture was in bad shape and looked melted or burned.
The keys we were given did not work and the staff could not find keys for the room at all. We had to trek around the building in the dark, watching out for stacked up building supplies and entering through the back patio doors to get into the room. Once the doorknob was changed and keys were finally given to us, we were told that they would not open the front building doors and we would have to go around the back to get in through our room patio doors.
The next day we were told that the outside building doors don't even lock so we didn't need keys for them and could use the front door to our room.
We were unable to secure our belongings in the room at all during the entire week because the patio doors do not lock at all.
There are no curtains in the suite. No privacy even for dressing or sleeping. There are no screens on the doors/windows with the exception of the kitchen
where directly outside people stand to smoke. We could not even open that one properly. With no working air conditioning and not being able to open windows for ventilation it was uncomfortably hot.
When we went to go to bed the first night we pulled back the covers to find no sheets on the bed. The blankets were ripped and nasty looking.
When we were not in the room someone entered and left a note and a bottle of wine. The patio doors were left open and we were left dealing with moths and bugs in room.
We had to buy Febreze to help combat the disgusting smell and finally had to get staff to remove one chair from the suite because it was so disgusting.
The rest of the furniture had to be sprayed daily to keep the smells down.
We could not cook due to a filthy stove and no ventilation fan. The only smoke detector visible was not installed. It was sitting in one of the kitchen cupboards.
The kitchen, which is advertised as a FULL KITCHEN is anything but, and with falling apart cupboards and missing drawers the dirty condition was anything but appetizing.
One night we arrived back very late and could not even use the microwave because there was no bottom plate in it. Not the end of that story because the microwave would not heat up any food at all. We bought food to cook and were forced to eat out. Most of the produce we bought had to be thrown out because it froze in the fridge and was ruined.
The website states that there is a HotTub. There is NOT! It is a bathtub...and it was dirty and after cleaning it out ourselves we tried to at least relax in it but it smelled so badly of dog that we could not use it. More false misleading advertising.
The shower in the bathroom was disgusting, dirty and had mould.
The room was only cleaned once and the door was again left unlocked by staff.
We got 2 clean towels the second day and absolutely no housekeeping after that. We had to go to the front desk looking for toilet paper one morning.
There were personal belongings in the drawers of in the rooms and the bathroom and kitchen.
There is exposed wiring and insulation in the living room area. There were nails sticking out of what looks like baseboards stacked in the bathroom. These are both safety hazards.
There is a freezer full of food in the suite. We were told by Jane that it was for the restaurant and not to touch it. This is a MAJOR health code violation and no food in that freezer should be served to guests in the restaurant.
On the night before we checked out we arrived back to our room to discover once again someone had been in the suite. There was furniture taken out of the room and other furniture had been moved. During this time a bottle of Febreze was STOLEN from our room. read more
