As with most places in Ireland, there is an incredible amount of history that had occurred just in the immediate vicinity. We learned about the history of the church, the area, the people who had built it, and the people who have kept it running. There were some pretty amazing artifacts that had come from the grounds, primarily during renovations, and some incredibly ornate headstones. The whole tour lasted about an hour, was contained within the church and the courtyard, and there were also some fun Legos that were hidden throughout the place that kept our kids entertained. Don't forget to go in the upper room. It has a beautiful view out to the city! All in all, this is a great spot and well worth your time.

At the time of my visit, I ended up on a guided walking tour of the Viking Triangle and a guided tour of the Medieval Museum and Bishop's Palace with free time to revisit the museums as well as the other museums. Highlights: + Price - Budget friendly at €15.00 + The museums are relatively close together. The Reginald's Tower is a max 5 minutes walk down the street if you are casually strolling. + The Medieval Museum you can easily spend 30 - 45 minutes going through the multiple levels of the museum. The highlights were the lower level that were two medieval chambers, the 13th century Choristers' Hall and the 15th century Mayor's Wine Vault. The top level offers a look at different models depicting how Waterford looked during key years. There is also a display of Waterford's charter depicted on multiple parchment scrolls. +Bishop's Palace offers looking at the collect of goods from Georgian and Victorian Waterford including paintings, Waterford crystal, a pair of gorgeous dragon mirrors, Napoleon Mourning Cross that came via his niece whou ended up being married to Thomas Wyse. +There is a cafe in Bishop's Palace that offers a bit of inside seating, as well as outside seating thanks to picnic tables on nicer days. Tips: * Make sure to walk around Reginald's Tower for a few photo ops, as well as a replica ship. * Right behind the Medieval Museum, make sure to stop and view the Dragonslayer Viking Sword by John Hayes and James Doyle of Special Branch Carvings * Reginald's Tower at the time of visit, as well as looking at the website, can be visited for free.

Starts off in a cavern that served as a wine cellar, then you make your way up to several floors of medieval times exhibits. The day we went the elevator wasn't working so you had to take the narrow set of stairs to get up and down, which made it very busy when there was a school field trip going through. Overall it's a nice exhibit. You have to enjoy history if you want to enjoy museums typically. The surrounding area around the museum is also nice to check out.

The Rothe House museum displays many archaeological finds from around the surrounding countryside…read moreshowcasing the history of the area and how people lived here in the past. There are Celtic artifacts from the 9th century, costumes from the 19th and 20th century, grave from the Bronze age, and various items from the region. The house itself is also great to explore dating back to the 16th century. In addition, there is a gorgeous garden which was is a faithful recreation of the 17th century Rothe family garden. The plants and trees being grown now are the same varieties as you would have found then based up plans and even origin pollen and seeds that were discovered. All in all, Rothe House is an hour well spent taking a walk through history.

The inside has a vaulted ceiling over three floors. The floors and exhibits surround the main space in the exhibits are really interesting, especially the bog people. These bodies were found in the bogs and were very well preserved due to the climate of the bog. The Museum also has exhibits on the Vikings that invaded Ireland other historical periods. It has lots of artifacts. The museum is free. It is a great place to spend a rainy day.

The first castle I've ever toured!…read more We paid €10.50 (student pricing) to get in. We gave ourselves about an hour but I definitely wish we came earlier for more time. There is so much to learn, watch, and interact with in the castle. It was super neat learning the history & even neater taking in the views. I could have easily spent 2+ hours just exploring every nook and cranny. There is a car park across the street that is free if you are going to the castle. The only downside is that the castle does close quite early, but I noticed everything in the city does. The hours for when we were there on a Saturday was 0930-1700. The car park closes when the castle closes. If you're into history & castles, I'd definitely recommend at least 2 hours to give a good visit here.

This is great place to learn about Limerick history, which might be representative of Ireland…read morehistory. While the castle itself has not been preserved in an excellent condition, but exhibition itself is good if you are interested in history, I learned a lot from the exhibition, Limerick has deep historical ties to both the Vikings and the Normans since 9th century. Also I enjoyed the panoramic views of King's Island and the River Shannon from castle towers.

You get to tour a good number of the rooms throughout the castle, and here/read about the history of the place. It's amazing how many of these places have been around in some form for 1000 years or so! Perhaps the most impressive thing here was the giant set of an ancient moose antlers that were absolutely massive! Don't forget to check out the dungeon where there was a nice movie playing explaining some more of the history of the place. This is a must do if you're in the area!

Visiting the museum was something I've always wanted to do, so my very first visit to Ireland had to include Limerick. The museum shows two rooms upstairs (a kitchen and bedroom). Downstairs has a classroom which is really wonderful. It displays some of Frank's personal items. Volunteers working there were amazing, such nice people. I highly recommend visiting the museum. The visit costs 4 euros per person.

She has spent many years collecting artifacts and stories about Frank McCourt. Even if you did not read his books or are not a fan of his work, the Museum provides a glimpse to what life was like in Limerick during the World Depression in the 1930's. It shows the harsh reality of growing up poor in Ireland and motives the soul as you see him and his school mates become great successes after such a rough childhood. Plus, the owner is very knowable and has designed the entire museum herself. She has a great hand made art work and has utilized her skills to create authentic scenes from Mr. McCourt's life. Afterwards you can go to South's Pub for a pint.

Excellent tour of the Dunbrody! Our guide, Adam, and the two re-enactors were perfect. We received…read morea great deal of information about the Dunbrody, and the living conditions onboard the voyage to Savannah. The actors represented a first class passenger and steerage passenger with her baby, talking to us in the middle of steerage quarters. They were wonderful! After Adam and the actors, we toured the quarantine area and quarters for first class passengers. We also posed by the bell and steering wheel. The section after the tour was a revelation of Irish who immigrated to United States - Maureen O'Hara, Walt Disney, JFK's great grandfather, and so many others. The gift shop had reasonably priced souvenirs. We bought shirts, necklaces, chocolate and a polo shirt for under $74. Leaving the ship area, we admired the emigrant flame, lit from the eternal flame at JFKs' sure in DC.
