The problem didnt go away after treatment so we brought our dog to a place that was available where the cancer diagnosis was made. The veterinarian told us why Main West's initial diagnosis was wrong. If Main West would have at least mentioned that it could be cancer and or tested for it, our furbaby could have had a more comfortable and pain-free time.

She said that she was not worried "at all". Now when I returned a week or so later for a dental cleaning his urine was dark orange and she then said it must be FIV, then after another bloodtest, at my request, she said it wasn't FIV (after discussing FIV for atleast 10 minutes or more to me), and then after that she said it must be liver cancer and said to euthanize him! I spoke to another Dr. there after my cat passed away and he said it sounded like a bad bladder infection but I should have autopsied my cat to find out for sure. Nobody else there told me I could do that for my cat but it was too late. Another time approx 6 yrs ago I brought my Pomeranian in for a limp that was not going away. Dr. Bahn said the patella was in definite need of surgery and it would be better to do it now than wait until he was older when it would be worse. Well almost 6 yrs later he still has no limp at all and the limp resolved itself after a couple months or so yrs. ago! There have been other very expensive not to mention painful procedures suggested for other pets there as well and I have to wonder if they were deserved also! Although I have had a couple excellent doctors there, the door is constantly revolving and you get who they choose for you and it brings in even more confusion for proper medications, diagnosis and care because they often interchange for one patient, even for the same visit and often without knowing the full history of the pet. Mind you though, the staff is very pleasant, polite and helpful and fairly quick to give an appointment if needed. I have had other people wonder if they even change their accessories for blood taking, etc. because of infections at the injections site after testing and other developing issues. I was warned to change vetrinarians by others or remain at my own risk. I wished I would have listened sooner. Unfortunately the long delay for a proper diagnosis for my cat definitely cost him his life! I hope it may help someone make a better choice in an important situation because it may be the last decision for your pet you could make for it.

He was diagnosed with Lyme disease, they called in a prescription straight away and within hours, followed up with me to say the disease had not spread after the samples had being tested further. Dr. Joe Paul became my vet by accident. Literally; because…read moreof an accident. My previous vet was in Saint Catharines, didn't open until 9 and didn't start seeing patients until 1pm. My cat had an accident one morning at 7:50am...I couldn't think of what to do (except for an emergency clinic). The accident was not life threatening but I wanted him looked at sooner rather than a minimum of 6 hours from then... I had noticed (walking by with my dog recently) that Niagara Veterinary Services opened at 8am, and they were very close to my house, so I called them. I was able to come in right away and my cat was taken care of, and I was so grateful. On another occasion a few months later, a different cat had a health issue and was dehydrated. It was already after office hours (they close at 6pm) and I emailed the vet, to ask if it were possible to get an appointment first thing in the morning. Dr. Joe Paul got the email and called me back and asked if I could bring the cat in now...it was hours after closing, but he did this for me and my cat anyway and she got the emergency hydration that she needed. It was a completely unrushed, empathetic, comforting, and kind experience. They let all 4 of us in a private basement grieving room. We were given as much time as we needed before and after her passing. It was a very peaceful experience. She was in no pain, she didn't even flinch for her iv. Thank you for treating us like family.
