My girls have been attending this Montessori school, and it has been a truly wonderful experience. Ms. Joanne, along with all of the amazing teachers we've had--Ms. Jennifer, Ms. Prabha, Ms. Mary, Ms. Aruna, Ms. Tania, Ms. Michelle and Ms. Debbie--and the entire staff are incredibly compassionate and supportive, genuinely invested in each child's independence and personal growth. All the staff are involved and invested in each child they interact with regardless of if the child is in their "designated home class" or not. My oldest has attended Dupage Montessori School in Wheaton since summer 2019 (when they still had a toddler/diaper program). We would probably stay there if their program went further than kindergarten but needed to find another school for first grade. We decided to apply to a private school and received enormously positive reports back on our child's readiness for first grade. Even to the point that the new school said that even though their own kindergarten program is robust, that our child (despite being the youngest in the grade) is at or above what their current students are at. We're getting ready to enroll our second at DMS Wheaton and are excited to continue being part of the school there. read more

We can't say enough about the care and time put into each child at Dupage Montessori School in Wheaton. After a year and a half of our son being at home during the pandemic, DMS was a light for our family. He is slow to acclimate to new places and people, but he quickly felt comfortable, cared for, and important to the staff at DMS Wheaton. The school not only encouraged his natural way of learning and playing, but challenged him to do things that he doesn't necessarily gravitate towards by helping him find a way to be engaged. I cannot say enough how happy we are that we found DuPage Montessori. Joanne and her caring staff have been a blessing for us. They offer a caring, loving, nurturing environment that makes it easy for children to love to learn. They promote the importance of community and social development. After noticing a behavior change in our son in he short time he was at a different school, we pulled him and placed him at DuPage Montessori and he has flourished. I am updating this review now that my second son has been at the school for a year and my older one is entering Kindergarten at DMS. I have been working with the teachers and staff at DMS for the past 4+ years and still love it. My younger son is a little more challenging than my older one and the teachers in the toddler program are the sweetest, kindest, most nurturing people you can find anywhere. They have also been very patient with my little guy and given me great advice about how to work with him at home. I truly love them. My older son completed the toddler program and begins his third year in 3-6 with the same teachers and thank goodness for them as well. I am always amazed at how much he can do -- addition, subtraction, multiplication, reading, writing, science and practical life as well -- and it is because these teachers foster a love of learning that I hope will stay with him throughout his school years. He truly loves the school and adores his teachers. The older son has also participated in the summer camp program the last two years and gives rave reviews. I am impressed with the variety of classes they offer in the summer with field trips! I love how he gets exposed to a different theme/topic each week, like photo, gardens, rain forest, horses, sports, legos, dinosaurs, bugs, fishing, castles and more. I appreciate that this school has some diversity. I would guess that at least 50% of the students are immigrants or have parents who immigrated to the US and speak a different language at home. Many of the teachers are also from outside the US. It makes a very rich community that I am grateful to be a part of. read more

The school is very unsafe for children. The security consists of side doors that enter into main hallways that are one-way solid doors that do not have any cameras. The front doors are always open. The teachers don't monitor children's health. If they happen to have a thermometer that works and the child indicates there sick, you may get contacted. My child had 103 fever and was ignored! Lastly, bullying is accepted! In the words of the owner when asked to intervene, "I do not deal with parent interactions on this level. " In the words of the teacher, "I am confident this is a mystery that should stay in past". One would hope that if a parent trusts a school to protect, support and mentor their children that they would not abuse such a privilege. read more

We love this school. My child has been attending for the past 3 years, after spending 3 years in a home daycare. She has advanced very well is in kindergarten working on mathematics and has been reading since she was 4 years old. The teacher and administrators are great and always are free to address any concerns. They have treated us as extended family and my child loves her school and her teachers. Dupage Montessori School has been the best school we could ever wish for our son. He was in their Kindergarten program as well as Lower Elementary and the skill and dedication to the development and well being of the children by all the staff was magnificent and we will be ever great full for the experience he/we had with Dupage Montessori school. The program is great, the school even better, with great tools & facilities in the new building and our son loved being there. We have nothing but good things to say about DMS Wheaton. The school and its teachers are a blessing to the community. We have sent 3 children here from ages 2-6 since 2011. The outcome has been the same...the children are taught to work and think independently. They enter kindergarten well above grade level. We love Dupage Montessori! Our son has been going to the school for three years and our daughter just began in the toddler program this year. The teachers are very nurturing and we are amazed at how much our children have learned. Our son is 4 and knows all of the continents and facts about the solar system. Our daughter is 2 and knows all of her letters and can count to 20. This is all because of Dupage Montessori. We are also very impressed by how the teachers introduce letter sounds and counting. I learned about Montessori methodology from a close friend and I see how big a difference for her son that started with daycare and moved to Montessori school. After I have my own daughter, I read some books about Montessori method and decided to send my daughter to a Montessori school. My daughter has been with DuPage Montessori School since she was 18 months, she was first in a classroom for 15 months to 2 years old, and move to 2-3 years old classroom after she turned 2. And now moved to a 3-6 classroom after she turned 3. Most teachers in DMS have more than 10 years experienced, some of them even have more than 20 years experienced. They deal with kids everyday, they know how to take care of different kids with different situation. As a stay home mom, I will volunteer to go field trip, I can see how much the kids grow from the beginning of the class and end of the class. In the fall field trip, most of the kids need parents accompany them, by the end of the class field trip in Spring, one parent can handle 4 kids. My daughter started as the youngest kid in the 3-6 classroom, she was helped by other older kids to wear shoes, put on jacket. After a year, she helping her new younger classmates to do the same. I hardly hear my daughter complain the older kids will bully her, saying nasty words or not playing with her. All I hear was someone was helping her this and that, and she is now helping new friends this and that. When she has play dates at home or at friends house, they will keep saying sharing is caring, and will help clean up the toys after they are done. Sometimes, I'll make the kids to clean up the floor after they are done with a meal too. Yes, other people kids! Because they are Montessori kids too, they won't mind doing that. There was one time, I made a prompt visit to the classroom, her teacher invited me to stay and observe the classroom. 22 kids within 3 to 6 years old, with 1 teacher and 1 assistance teacher, I didn't hear screaming, crying, fighting, all the kids are doing their work, the teachers are going around guiding the kids to do work. Some older kids are guiding the younger one to do counting and learning alphabets as well. All the kids will put away their work after they are done. I am really amazed on this. When I shared some pictures with some mothers in the same classroom, they can't believed their eyes! My son know to put things back?! Why he is not doing this at home?! The teacher will tell the classroom to use indoor voice, keep their hand to themselves, use your words to explain what you want. Sometimes, I will discuss my concern or situation I faced with her teacher, the teacher will give me some good guidelines for me to deal with my kid. I am grateful that I found this school and my daughter is blessed to find such caring teachers and she have a happy learning journey to start with. read more

I Have always been an advocate of Montessori. However, once my child began the toddler 3-6 at DuPage Montessori everything changed due to the teacher to student ratio. The teachers don't have the time and expect the kids that just turned three to understand everything like the 4 and 5 yr olds after just one week. My Child in specific still had trouble changing his snow boots during the winter and they would just leave him there without any guidance or help. Whenever we asked the assistants for help or feedback they would claim it's hard due to the amount of kids. I also noticed that they never reflect on how they can do things differently when something is not working and a child is not responding or reacting negatively. At one point my son actually said my teacher doesn't like me because they raised their voice often. The teachers would make excuses like he was already shown that and I personally watch them blame the kids when they didn't get it the first time. I saw this happening especially when they didn't understand WHY they were doing certain things like puzzles that are used for motor skills but were not practical. we were very sad to leave because the previous teachers were very good but it turned out to be a very good thing because he is now at the Kensington academy and has a Amazing respect from his teachers because they put every childs needs first and build a nurturing relationship to guide children based on how they learn. read more

I really wanted to like this school as I think there are a lot of benefits to a good Montessori education. I know there are a lot of great and dedicated teachers at DMS, especially the secondary instructors and in the after school programs, but as a previous reviewer above wrote, there is little care for the individual child here and no thought to trying things differently (no, let me rephrase that, _active resistance_ to doing anything differently) if a preschool aged kid doesn't robotically conform to a lead teacher's expectations. We were often told that there were too many children in a class to attend to our child individually and the lead teacher we had even saw her students of three and four years old fearing her as a point of pride! I can also attest to the fact that the kids themselves and even the parents too were blamed when everything did not run smoothly in the classroom. Hoping things would improve, we stayed here for far too long, much to our regret. Don't make the same mistake we did. Find a place with teachers who are thoroughly educated in the early childhood field. Find a place that is nurturing-approaching young kids from a starting point of mutual respect and admiration. Find a place that wants and welcomes parents' daily involvement and constant constructive communication with all of the staff and teachers to help your child thrive. I am a proud parent of two kids as DuPage Montessori. Both of my kids have been attending DuPage Montessori since they started school. As a middle school public teacher myself, I searched so many schools to find a good school with a good philosophy. I have not found a better school than this. DuPage Montessori evokes a love of learning for all children at every level and grade. I am constantly amazed at what my kids are learning and how they are learning it. I only wish I could use the same materials and ideas in my classroom. The teachers put their hearts into teaching, and it shows. We love the teachers,staff and other family members of this community. My son started school with excitement, then he became sad and scared to go to school. Every morning he cried and refused to go to school. He told me Mrs. Chris yelled at him and was always mean to him. I noticed that Mrs. Chris was mean, especially towards to boys. When I was a reading volunteer at the class, I noticed that she was extremely impatient with my son. There was a morning storytelling time every morning, kids took turns to talk about anything they wanted to share. Mrs. Chris always arbitrarily cut off my son's presentation, he never got to finish his presentation even once! Another incident was happened on the playground. My son fell off from one of the tricycles on the playground, two coordinators(or assistants) were too busy with chatting with each other and didn't even notice that he was crying. By then Mrs. Maha walked by, I tried to get her help and she replied: " Your boy is not in my class, I am too busy with my own kids." Then she left. Later I found out that she has an accounting degree. She might be a good accountant but she is definitely not a good teacher because of her lack of love for kids. Now my son is at Ellsworth Elementary school, he's in honor's math program and has a Amazing respect from his teachers because they put every kid's needs first. He's a happy boy with many good friends. Although it is three years ago when my boy attended DuPage Montessori, I still regret that I made the bad decision. I should have taken my son out of Mrs. Chris class right away. read more

The school setting is nice and the school has adequate curriculum, like other Montessori schools. However, I feel that some teachers and staff members are snobbish and definitely think too much of themselves. Having a Montessori certification is NOT exactly an impressive educational accomplishment, so stop acting like you are Ivy League graduates on your way to win a Nobel Prize in child development. You are supposed to be there to meet the learning needs of the kids and the families, not to make *your* lives comfortable! read more

I definitely would recommend this school over Rosehill Montessori in the area. This school has been in business for long and know how to operate an organization with quality. They put the child's needs in front of everything else unlike Rosehill. We looked at a lot of schools in the neighborhood, and had selected Rosehill, as we had heard good things, but the quality and care of the teachers there has gone so low that if your child is not a kindergartner then it is no use putting him there. Whereas in Dupage they have teachers especially educated in early childhood and montessori trained in early childhood. They have new works for the kids and excellent activities with language, music and tons and tons of field trips in summer. They also have organic affordable lunchs. They assess your child and work with her at her level, nevermind the age. I would any day send my children here than Rosehill. read more
