Ancient and needs help! I was excited to join here initially as they offered a lot of great classes. Pretty good instructors too. You have to sign up electronically on their website to secure a spot. I never had any issues securing a spot in my desired class. I also really enjoyed the aqua classes that are held during the summer. Unfortunately, the building itself is so in need of serious renovation. Sometimes it stinks inside too. Granted membership fees are low but put some money into this place. There is really only one large classroom and they offer no ceiling fans or quality airflow. Let's face it, when you work out you sweat and I get hot very easy. There is one large fan in the corner of the "only large" classroom but you aren't always allowed to use it. People will bitch that it's too cold etc. Why are you here if you are not sweating? Location is kind of far from where I live so not real convenient. There have been break ins and thefts in the parking lot as well. I finally chose to end my membership here and stick with my current gym and utilize the great outdoors for my workouts. I am saving money each month in membership fees and gas. I may return to take advantage of the aqua classes in the summer but until this building receives a serious update I am out. read more

Despite driving by literally twice a day to get to work, this spot really wasn't on my radar until I got their mailing ads for their summer family pool membership promo. We joined last year, and the deal was something like four months for $200 for the family? Don't quote me on that but I'll be on the lookout again this year. The location is definitely on the older side but staff were nice. We got a full tour and all of our questions answered when we joined, which was a touch lengthier of an experience than I would have expected but you could really tell that the staff here care about their jobs. They also shared useful info for my toddler and upcoming programming for her age range, which was a nice touch. Despite having access to their classes, we only went for the outdoor pool. There are a few shaded areas with turf to bring your towels or chairs and stake out a spot while the kids splash around, it does get crowded at peak times. There are plenty of lifeguards and staff around to keep an eye on things for safety. There's basically a wading area with a climbing structure on one end, and a deeper pool for older kids with bigger slides and lanes at the other end. Every hour or so there's a swimming test check and everyone gets out for that. My toddler is still a new and tentative little fish, so we mostly sat along the wall in the knee-deep area and practiced floating and splashing. The pool area has loud and family-appropriate music playing for a fun atmosphere, and you can get safety vests as needed. Kids are fairly well behaved with parents and staff around. Locker rooms and bathrooms are dated but as expected, no issues. Everything has always been clean. If you don't have a membership, you can pay a daily fee - as a bonus, the first hour of pool access each day is for members only, which is a calmer time to take smaller kids if it doesn't conflict with naptime. On another kid-related note, I do appreciate that we can pretty much bring whatever toys, drinks, and snacks we want here - you'll see some families with full on coolers to spend the day here. If I could suggest some improvements to the pool area/experience, I would love to see a shade structure added to the tables/chairs by the check-in booth. It appears that they used to operate a snack bar (which would also be nice, but I understand it's not a priority) and the seating is there but completely useless when it's 100+ outside. My family and I have been coming here for fitness classes for over 15 years and that cycling "studio" they use has always been HORRIBLE. When the weather starts heating up, that room gets so hot it's impossible to work out. I swear the A/C doesn't work for that room, or it never had AC installed, because it seems like it was originally meant to be a storage room. The best ventilation you can get in that room is when they have to move the location of the class to the main gym because kids use that room during the summer (which I can't even imagine how hot it must be for them during the summer, how is that even safe?) They tried adding a few fans scattered around the room to help cool it down, but the only thing those fans do is blow hot air around. I've even resorted to purchasing several mini fans that I bring to class with me and attach to my bike, which is so ridiculous. There are also several people who have been coming for a while who completely colonize the fans in the room and move them to where they're ONLY POINTING TOWARDS THEM. I can't believe I have to fight for proper ventilation while I'm trying to exercise. Please fix the awful cooling system or move the class somewhere that actually has working AC, it's the same story whenever the weather heats up and it's been that way for 15+ years before it was even Les Mills RPM. Why am I paying $60+ a month to die in Las Vegas because YMCA can't fix their AC? read more

Great reasonably priced options for classes, camp and birthday parties. I hosted a birthday party here at the pool and you have an option to rent a private room. It was perfect, you have 2.5 hours, and decorate however you want. You can also bring any food and non-alcoholic beverages. Perfect for the summer. read more

It's currently 1:03 PM. I arrived at the Durango Hills pool at 11:40 AM, earlier in the season they had the pool open at 12 PM for non-members huge signs. See pictures attached to this review that says the pool is open at 1 PM so I decided to sit and wait from 11:40 AM until 1 PM to go swimming. The employee gets there walks past me, She has an see me tons of times before gets herself all signed in about 10 minutes and then she finally asked me if I'm a member and I let her know of course I'm not a member and then she tells me that I can't swim till 2 o'clock. There's no sign outside of this window that shows at 2 PM Swim for nonmembers and the fact that I've been there for an hour and 20 minutes. Waiting to swim is ridiculous! A few of the lifeguards had walked past me and one I even asked if it opened at one and he said yes. A few people passed by and spoke to me and not one person said it's till 2 o'clock horrible horrible horrible customer service if you're not going to allow non-member swim you should have a huge sign with a clear time posted at the door and online. I don't want hear that they're "used to be assign" because that does nothing for somebody that's been out there for almost an hour and a half. Thank you for ruining my day. I will never come back again. I'm so upset with this place. I even called and was told that they would be open at 1 I'm so pissed right now. Other times that we've come here the lady that's currently on shift at 1 o'clock today was late and all of us sitting outside waiting to get in. Had to sit here and wait for her to be on time for her job to let people in YMCA you need to do a better job and put up sign so that way people know when your business is open. I have been coming to this location for 14 years and it has been absolutely fantastic. My son learned to swim here 14 years ago and we enjoyed this place ever since. Had a party here for my Sons Birthday in 2023. What a great time everyone had. There is a private area with plenty of tables and a shade cover to have your party at. I did not take any pictures of the area but it was worth it. It's blocked out with a 1 way in and 1 way out entrance. The kids slide did not work last year but recently I was there 6/1/2024 and the kids slide was opened this place is a great place to enjoy a HOT summer day in this Desert. read more

I was thrilled to finally discover about the only Pickleball in the NW at the Durango YMCA. I requested a tour and asked about all things Pickleball. A flyer for Tuesday Pickleball clinics was pointed out to me. I went on to text many friends in notice and arranged my schedule accordingly to attend. I arrived early, waited in a line for the front desk for such a lengthy amount of time I did finally go to the court and get situated. After a lovely conversation with a lady who was very helpful, I went back to sign in. After waiting for some time again, imagine my disappointment being told that the clinic was for members only. This Y has a pool that's open to non-members willing to pay, membership was not mentioned on the tour, and not only is it not stated on the flyer, the flyer does say "Drop Ins Welcome." While membership isn't unreasonable, I had just brought enough money for the clinic. Good business practice would have been to allow for the misunderstanding and clarify future participation. Instead, with a about a half hour of my time invested and cash on the counter, I was left to walk away. We're in a hospitality town, this is a feel good busines, do better. read more

We went today 5/27 Memorial Day. I'm a regular guest here at the ymca pool. Online it says 12-1 is members only. So when we got there at 12 a lady named Rachel says members only from 1-2. No one cleared that up with the online scheduling or on the automated phone call that time. Now everyone has to wait till 2 to go swim. This is poor customer service and terrible service. read more

I went to this YMCA for a few months a couple of years ago. It was clean and they offered a variety of classes to attend. My children loved playing pool. My only complaint is the hours are too short. Would love to go swimming to the lap pool after work at 7, 8pm. Also, when I went swimming to the lap pool, the showers had no hot water!! I tried all of them. I am a swimmer. That is the highlight for me. So, I need a good shower to get rid of the chlorine after swimming. Hence, I stopped going. read more

We have been members off and on for a few years. The pool is great and glad that you are able to bring in your own food and drinks. I use the gym often and, while they do have childcare, their room is really set up for babies and toddlers. For the bigger kids that still need supervision, their childcare room is lacking. They definitely have the space in there to make it more appropriate for bigger kids, but have not made an effort. I also have an LVAC membership and if I need care for the kids when I work out, I go there instead. I do also feel like the classes are still very expensive, given what we already pay monthly for a family membership. read more

Came out today for Memorial Day to swim with the family. We got here at 11:30 am because online it states that it opens at 12:00 pm like it does every year we've been coming....Nope! Now it opens at 1:00 pm but ONLY IF you are a member! You have to wait till 2:00 pm. This is such bullsh*t. We and multiple other families have now been waiting hours in this heat to swim. There is literally ZERO posting about it other than a very, very small print on their window that isn't even understanding to anyone. I get that they now have the pool hour sign posted for 1:00pm, but as someone who looked online before coming down, I assumed that the 12:00 pm opening time waa still accurate. They need to get rid of the director of the preschool her name is Ashley Couch. She is absolutely horrible. She has no idea what she is doing. She just wants to be friends with the parents. She doesn't handle anything when it comes to behavior issues. She doesn't support her staff. Non of her staff likes her. I want to how she got the position. She doesn't have the credentials to serve as a director. Oh yeh 10 years working as a manager at Target. This is a school where children are suppose to be learning. You can't go to her boss because they are friends. That's how she got the job. Someone needs to do something about this . She breaks all kinds of rules especially when it comes to licensing. Someone from the state needs to do a surprise visit, they will catch all kind of rules being broke. Like allowing certain staff members to bring their kids into the classroom while they work.It's a huge distraction. She even has her staff watch her daughter who is not the correct age or potty trained or even enrolled in the school. She is going to run that school down to the ground. read more

Terrible experience. I brought my 4 year old son in today for his swim lesson. There were so many kids and only 3 instructors. All of the instructors were teens. My daughter has lessons too and they never called her name so I asked the manager and she said they were "over quota" and one of the instructors left after the morning session and they didn't know where she was. I was concerned that the kid to instructor ratio was like 8 to 1 so I stood by the side of the pool. While my sons teacher was helping another kid in the pool my son went under, he was flailing around and choking in water, drowning beneath the surface. I looked and the teachers didn't even notice him. I had to reach in and yank him out myself. He was coughing up water and if I wasn't standing right there he would've drowned. I looked at the instructors and asked what the hell they are doing and they just looked at me like a deer in headlights, not saying a single word. I then went into the pool office and the girls in there just said "we just started our shift and we aren't instructors just lifeguards. I can see from the roster that we are over quota". They said sorry but nothing else. So then I went to the front desk and spoke with what appeared to be the only adult in the building and she too said that they were "over quota" and she "hears me". This is so beyond unacceptable, if you're over quota you need to turn people away, you need to get those lifeguards off their butts and in the pool. The oldest kids are 7 and all are level 1 swimmers. This is completely unsafe and they should not be teaching any type of swimming there. I called the director for the entire building when I got home since the staff working there were completely useless and had nothing to say except they were over freaking quota. Of course she didn't answer, I left a message and still haven't heard back. If I were the director of such a large operation my phone would always be on, regardless if it's your day off. You are responsible for CHILDRENS LIVES! I don't even want to think what would've happened if I wasn't standing right next to the pool. We will never return there and at the very LEAST I expect to get our money back and a real, actual apology. read more

Horrible horrible birthday party experience for the 2nd time around, I specifically wanted to have a pool party and use the pool party room , the lady (Michelle) that took over 30 minutes to book the party, scheduled my daughters party for outside tables, and I didn't pay attention to the receipt that said outdoor tables before my party day EVEN THOUGH I REITERATED MULTIPLE TIMES THAT I WANTED THE POOL PARTY ROOM she was clearly incompetent and had no clue how to properly book a party ..... I wanted a refund of some sort and the person I spoke to was awful she didn't seem to care about my horrible experience and kept muting me while I was on the phone with her because she couldn't care less that I wanted to be at least partially refunded because the heat was UNBEARABLE and my party guest and I couldn't stay the duration of the party because 112 degree weather is not ok to sit in if you aren't swimming. The area was disgusting and dirty! There were shirts and water bottles and trash And to top it all off one of my guests had to jump in the pool fully clothed because the lifeguards were not doing their ONE job, and her daughter was on the verge of drowning. 10 out of 10 don't recommend! Well, I just come here for the MIXXED FIT classes by Jennifer and Ryann. The workout room is very small compared to other gyms (other YMCA's included). I've also taken their Zumba class and it's ok. Their group workout subs need to work on being more prepared for class. As a student trying to learn new choreography its hard to follow someone who doesn't even know what they are doing themselves. I used to teach zumba so I know that you should always be prepared before stepping into class. The workers in the kids gym are very friendly and so are the people at the front desk. I like that theres no big crowds, no packed areas and even though kids are kind of roaming free, they are still well behaved.Unfortunately the hours are very limited so thats kind of a downfall but I manage to squeeze in a workout as much as possible. read more

I am astonished that this YMCA. I went there yesterday with a friend and I asked an employee where the locker rooms were and he said they didn't have any. There we stand, with our street clothes on and gym bags in hand, and I ask "Where are we supposed to change?" He shrugs his shoulders and says, "I guess the bathrooms?" Then, another employee stops him and tells us that they do have locker room, but they are on the other side and that there are children in summer camp now, so we are not allowed to use them. Again, the suggestion is to just change in the bathroom. ??? I then asked, "So, I guess we can't take showers when we're done?" Again - the children are present, so we have no access. As it turns out, my friend was denied access to the men's room because "there were children present." Good grief - men are not allowed to use the BATHROOMS??? What if they have to go???? It is ridiculous that this Y denies basic RESTROOM facilities to adults in favor of the summer camps kids. I pay a lot of money for my monthly Y membership..... read more

I have been a member of the Durango YMCA for over seven years. I have enjoyed the amenities offered until recently. Lately the gym has been filthy. I have reported this to the staff who assure me that this will be seen to. Nothing has been done. There are dust bunnies in the corners and the fans are beyond filthy. There are dust webs blowing off the fans. Nothing has been done. What is management doing to manage the properties? Noth As an update to my review, I need to give kudos to the staff for listening to my concerns and doing a good job to fix the problem. My family has joined this YMCA recently and overall we are happy. Solid size cardio room, pretty decent weight room, not overly packed. Facility is clean. Many things for families to do here. Child care while working out is a big plus! Only negative is that the basketball courts are very rarely open or available to members. This is one of the big draws of the Y and it would be nice if we were able to utilize the courts. read more

Crappy, over priced. White Male trainer young guy was very rude. He literally went out of his way to stop me and tell me I need to put keggle weights back from the weight room to to cardio room when I am done. He was very rude and not to menchen that there was equipment from cardio room in weight room and he only brought mine back and confronted me. I pay 60 a month for me and my husband ridiculous to get rude staff. $60 dollars for a gym that is not 24 hours, for rude staff, having a bunch of kids running around playing with weights in weight room. If you live in between the two locations of the Y's, it is worth the drive to come to the Centennial location. The YMCA Durango is messy, on the inside and outside. The staff is rude and unprofessional. I've seen them yelling in adults faces. Most of them dress in polos and look great except for the superior who is always in mini skirts and off the shoulder shirts. I was shocked she was the personnel representing the community center. This place is a complete joke. This is the 2nd year I have enrolled my daughter in their summer camp. They are trying to enforce me to pick up my daughter from the car lane saying that I can't walk up to pick her up. The management is so insistent on saying that it's the policy which it's not in any rule book or facility policies that are printed or posted. They were so condescending when I tried to explain their flaws in this supposed "policy" that I did lose my cool and got angry. Which is not professional on my side of things either. Then to threaten me with removal of my child from their camp cause of our disagreement is their solution.To treat someone who paid for this service that way is insane completely unprofessional. Sadly I have no options now because I'm a single dad who works full time and now that summer has started all the camps in the valley are filled . Also they made me sign a waiver for them to be able to spray my daughter with sunblock and my daughter came out that afternoon so burnt she couldn't sleep that night. Are they not paying attention or just not caring. Why make be sign the waiver if they are not gonna do that. As long as they protect their butts and have your money it's all they care about. Management is unprofessional and rude especially Sabrina the "camp coordinator" and Brianna Barber who over sees the whole facility.Below is a screenshot of their policy from the current handbook on the pick up and drop off procedure. I started at the Centennial location of the Y, but now I almost exclusively go to the Durango location now. It feels more intimate, and the staff are excellent, especially Jaime, Judy, and Stephanie. I love the Tai Chi for Health, Silver Sneakers, Line Dancing, and Chair Yoga classes. I've also done personal training with Stephanie. She has a great sense of humor and is tough, but I need it. Come on girl! Work that muffin top off! Ahhh how im becoming a lil gym junkie! I have the badge to prove it, haha! So I decided to check out this Y bc its open on Sunday AND they have a Zumba class at a good time! Now I for some reason thought the other on Meadows was closer, but this is a lil closer to my place. I also have to say I like this facility a lot. Now here they do not have an indoor pool, but the water park looks AMAZE BALLS! I cant wait for the summer! Now so far I have no gripes with this facility! What I really LOVE is the layout; its all on one level! Now imo the flow is better, I really like seeing everything on one floor. The childrens gym is better than the Meadows, but not as amazing as the one in Pueblo. Here they make you get a "child card" before being able to drop your precious cargo off; they also require you to leave ID whilst your kids are there. Pretty cool imo bc now noone can say "hey that lil one is mine!" Hehe. As you veer to the left you have a.room with all your treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and an area to stretch. Here they again have wall mounted LCDs and a giant fan. The next huge room is were all your free weights and machines are. I love they have the rooms seperated! I for one do not like the fact that these hot mens can see my ass going all cray on the elliptical! Lol. The weight room is super great! I know this is weird but I LOVE how its painted green! Its like relaxing and motivates me! The room is also very well cooled and ventilated. The studios are also pretty snazzy! Since this facility is all one floor they can have higher ceilings which then make you feel great working out! Not like in a box, at times I felt like that at Heinrich. The room is also convieniently located right across from the bathrooms and water fountains. Its also nice and cooled and not muggy. Now at the other Y I LOVE the Zumba teacher Christina, here so far ive worked with Ariel and some other Hispanic lady and have really enjoyed them! They both have the perfect amount of charisma and enthusiasm and remind us to stay hydrated! They also show diff levels, which is very caring of them. They are totally not snobs AT ALL and actually look like they care if youre enjoying yourself and make you wanna come back! I also like that they dont break your ear drums while they play the music! Another good thing is that after 7pm its not busy! No wait and not a crap ton of people! Its nice, if you dont like working out with hella people this is your spot! They also have a worker walking around and readily available if you have questions! SCORE! Also included is towel service free! So far I like this center a little better! Im still going to go to Heinrich mainly for Zumba with Christina and the fact they have a steam room! So ladies and gents, get off your tookus and lets get healthy together!!! read more

I just don't understand why, in HOT southern Nevada, they wouldn't keep this pool open longer. It opens a week after Memorial day and only stays open through Labor Day. Daily, it's only open from noon til 6pm. Oh wait, I think I know: Payroll. They're too cheap to PAY people to run it that long. The lack of funding for personnel shows. The lifeguards may have passed a CPR and lifesaving course, but their customer service skills leave a LOT to be desired. Ditch the mirrored cop sunglasses, kids. This is a part time, seasonal job. A whistle and a megaphone should not make you forget that you are dealing with PEOPLE. And they are the ones who ultimately pay your meager salaries. Last week I went in there when the place first opened and the men's room smelled and looked like someone had peed all over the floor. It was a complete, smelly mess. The Director, Amanda is on top of things and clearly has a passion for early childhood education. I'm so happy we have found such a great program and at such a reasonable price.
