The staff don't just clock in and out, they actually pay attention, they communicate, and they make sure your baby safe at all times. Ain't no weird vibes, ain't no sloppy energy. The place stay clean, the kids be smiling, and you can tell they actually learning something, not just sitting around. Every time I pull up, my child is fed, changed, happy, and taken care of. If you a parent that works, stresses, or just wanna know your kid is good -- this daycare is definitely the one. Solid people, real care, real structure. I'd recommend them to anybody in the hood looking for a spot that's reliable and got heart.

SLA is progressive. one of a kind. im excited about what the future holds for my boy and thank SLA for giving him an advantage most are not lucky enough to have. Since their takeover 2 years ago, the above team of principals have made notable changes for the better. They have gotten an academy class for brighter students introduced and have made benchmark scores even higher compared to years prior. They have an indivual and almost intimate approach with dealing with the students which seems to straighten them up in a hurry! Bravo to the staff for caring when nobody else would for an inner city school in a rough neighborhood. Thank you for accepting & keeping a job without thinking of boosting your career or doing it as a charity case.

I don't know…read morewhere the issue starts but the administration is ineffective and the students behavior is horrendous. Teachers don't have resources or support and quit left and right. Lots of subs and temporary employees here because no one wants to stay. The kids run the school and pretty much do what they want. Students who want to learn don't have an opportunity to because their classmates are so disruptive and teachers spend 80% of their time on classroom management and barely any on instruction. Bottom line..try to avoid this place unless you know how to fix it. I feel bad for everyone involved in the situation

In one specific case, the director agreed that the teacher was in the wrong to rip a toy out of my son's hand and push him down, the teacher was just moved to another classroom. The two's teacher has come in high on several occasions. This was brought to the director's attention by several parents and it's been brushed off. There's no real curriculum, they will just keep your kid "busy" all day. Overall, I wouldn't recommend sending your child here.

She is the tiniest toddler in the room. I proceeded to observe the situation as the teacher continued yelling and snatching items out of the kids hands. I thought about reacting but I knew they'd call the cops on me. So I went to the office, got Miralena and said, "You need to get your teacher. She's in there yanking the kids and snatching things." As we walked to the classroom, you could literally hear the teacher yelling and screaming at the kids. At that point, Miralena pulled the teacher to the back room and talked to her. I don't know what was said... At that point, my granddaughter started crying cause she didn't want to stay. Mind you this child has been going to this school for over a year and actually looked forward to going to school every day. (Especially when Miss Nyema was there) I left. Sat in the car for a second to gather my thoughts. Then went back inside and told Miralena "Today is her last day! And, I'm gonna need your director to contact me immediately." 11:34am Tuesday 2/14/23, Miralena called "So Ali is staying?" I replied, "Well I don't know. I'm still waiting for your director to call me. So how was that situation handled? Were her parents made aware of the incident involving their child? Cause I'm still trying to get in touch with them. " She said, "We let the teacher go. She won't be back." I said, " Well where's your director because she never called me...and since she didn't it's too late. What is corporates number?" She said, "I'm not in the office and have to stay in the classroom all day today." 4:54pm Tuesday 2/14/23, Rashawnah calls. She apologized for not getting back to me sooner. I asked, "When did Miralena tell you about the incident?" She said "Friday evening." I said, "Isn't protocol to alert superiors immediately after an incident involving the children?" She said "Yes!" So I said, "Right. Since Miralena didn't and now you're just calling me about an incident that took place early Friday morning ...other measures need to be taken. What's corporate number and I want that ethics line too." I proceeded to say, "See if I had snatched her ass up y'all would have called the cops on me. You would want me to do something too if it were you and yours. This didn't personally happen to me and mine but I witnessed it happen to another baby who could have very well been ours." I told her that she would be able to see it all on the cameras. She said they don't have cameras inside the facility. 11:36am Today, 2/17/23 Kelly Phelan calls me to ask is Ali last day on Tuesday? I said, "No. where did you get that from?" She said, "You the grandmother told someone here that her last day was on Tuesday." Then she proceeded to say, "AND JUST SO YOU KNOW, LICENSING WAS JUST HERE AND FOUND NO WRONGDOINGS." I said, "WELL HOW WAS THAT DETERMINED WHEN THEY DIDN'T CONTACT ME THE WITNESS WHO SAW IT HAPPEN?" Nowwwww she wants to play victim. Talking about me screaming...so I hung up. She called back to threaten me with the police if I come down there." I called her back to confirm what she had said and hung up. All of this because I reported a danger that I witnessed against a defenseless baby girl. Now Kelly wants to gaslight and play victim. Her guilty conscience came out in her "argument" with me. Extremely unprofessional.

Little Learners Childcare Center

My daughter loves this school and so do my wife and I. My daughter has attended Little Learners…read moresince she was 1 and is now almost 3. In that time she has learned many things, but her language and social skills are what have really stood out to us. By age 2, she was saying her ABCs almost all the way through, counting as high as 20, and identifying shapes and colors like a pro. We're very thankful to have a school that is both affordable and flexible with her schedule, as it changes from week to week based on my work schedule. All around Little Learners is a top notch preschool. We know our daughter will be be prepared for Kindergarten.

Over the years, Triton has gone downhill (bad scandal about 8 years ago involving perverted teachers and a VP who covered it up!) . . . ) and Highland has gotten a better reputation. However, fights have been breaking out lately, and of course it concerns me. The Principal is corny, but SEEMS to be on top of the student body and genuinely care. Harsh penalties for shady (and worse!) students are now in full force and effect - GOOD! She has very good communication. I pulled my son out of an elective class because the teacher (a male) was a real a$$hat and was verbally abusing my son, as well as other students. I told the VP, and he cajoled me. Let's just get my kids their diplomas and move on. Nothing stellar about this h.s. I do appreciate the police presence and top notch security system though. As with any school, it's what you put into it. Go Tartans!

I was grateful to be among distinguished alumni who have gone on to pursue excellent careers in their respective fields. I wasn't a very well known student here but I am glad that I had the experiences that I had here that would later cement my future. I had the utmost honor of being friends with some phenomenal women (some whom have passed on) that still continue to support me today. I truly believe that being in honors classes, AP classes and a myriad of sports (namely tennis, softball and a brief stint in cross country) will forever impact the course of my life journey. May Marquita Cabrera and Sarai Campbell forever rest in power.

My sister-in-law who has Downs Syndrome was a resident at Melmark for over 30 years. In the…read morebeginning Melmark was a different place, small, resident centered. We could not have asked for a better place for her. However, over the years Melmark got bigger, the state got involved, big government oversight progressed. Endless forms, matrices of objectives etc. to show the government that the school was in compliance. The need for government money to subsidize residents who could not pay grew exponentially. Likewise those that could pay were charged more and more. The school bureaucracy got top heavy with dozens of PHDs raking in BIG salaries and a army of paper pushers underneath them. Resident centered went out the window. Residents were now units attached to revenue. We saw my sister in law's bills double in a years time while the care was reduced. When we told Melmark that we were going to go broke paying for her care we were told "when you run out of money you can apply for government aid". We were in shock that this was their strategy - get the government to pay for it. Melmark would have taken advantage of us for as long as we let them. We removed my sister in law immediately into a new facility. We are so happy she is in a much better place where "resident centered" in practiced everyday. Melmark has outlived its' once wonderful mission.

But in instead they fired me and told me "if I haven't asked him a question in the first place I wouldn't have been hit, so I reported them to HR and not even HR did anything about the guy that this works there til this day probably abusing and harassing other co-workers and maybe even the children. They also have a overnight shift where the employees supposed to be awake watching and checking on the children when you're really sleeping or on your phone watching movies and eating the food supply brought in by families. They don't clean their facilities thoroughly especially due to COVID-19 at time I was there, They didn't tell us who had COVID or what houses may have been affected. They also exposed a worker to covid without informing her about what she was dealing with, and even thought they are a non-restricted facility, they still have techniques to restrain children and adults. I didn't feel safe working there at night and also been harassed by the overnight male supervisors, I've requested to work I different homes multiple times and they did nothing about it. This is no place for no one.

They recommend you text to schedule your lessons and when you do they don't respond back in a timely manner. You have to reach out multiple times before getting a response. Their hours of operation is listed from 8AM - 8PM but yet they send appointment reminders out @ 10pm where a response is required to confirm the lessons. This lack of communication was highly disappointing and unprofessional, leaving me dissatisfied with their service.
