Going to Modern Woodmen Park is a must for any baseball fan. It is one of the oldest parks in the nation. Many MLB stars got their careers started here in Davenport, Iowa. This family friendly stadium offers a wide variety of entertainment for the whole family. If the great game of baseball isn't for you, check out the different amusement rides. The Ferris wheel is huge and gives spectators a glimpse of the field and mighty Mississippi River. The concessions have many great foods and drinks to purchase at reasonable prices. You won't go broke here like at a MLB stadium. Where else can you watch a baseball game, see river boats cruise the river, and hear trains fly down the tracks? Modern Woodmen Stadium is the answer.

The reason 4/5 stars is lack of good concessions. A couple of places such as a Mexican grill weren't open. The line for this one grill was insanely long the whole night. The Whiteys ice-cream did not have malt cups, supposedly sold out the night before. Piss poor planning for a crowd. I settled for Cheesesteak nachos without onions and peppers in a helmet. Also shared a chip witch or chocolate chip cookie with ice-cream between it. The stadium was really iconic and cool. The Ferris wheel lit up at night. Penn Meadows Park is a solid location for softball tournaments!…read more It boasts nine well maintained baseball/softball fields, plenty of space for warmups, a few batting cages, trees for shade between games and plenty of bathrooms. My only three qualms are that 1) parking can be a bit crazy on tournament days, 2) the dugouts are insanely small with only one entrance and 3) the fields are numbered however they are named, too. You really have to scope out the map to figure out where 'OPTIMIST' field is or 'Pizza Ranch' field. (I get sponsorships, but let's just keep fields numbered as it's more intuitive...) I believe it is the largest park in NL. It has: picnic shelters, a few soccer fields, a playground, a volleyball court and some newer tennis courts. Additionally, there is a trail around the park. My 10U softball team took second place at the tournament here this weekend! We definitely enjoyed playing at Penn Meadows Park.

I played here as a kid and they really have made some great changes to the original four fields since! (I believe these were made around 2020- when the CR Reds baseball/softball organization took over this site.) The infields were completely redone and the back-stops were replaced with a 30' tall netting. There are new dugouts and the concession area was updated. Finally (while I think they should have added stalls) the restrooms are updated and clean. There's a playground area for the kids as well as batting cages. But the most impressive thing about Triple Play Park is the addition of Dinger Plaza. My 10U team played here this past weekend and what a nice field. It rained cats and dogs the night before, but you'd have never known that. These two new fields are geared toward younger teams and I think they're a great size-- home runs are possible for a ten year old which is crazy. (My only qualm is how close the backstop is to home.) There's plenty of parking. It's continently across the street from Casey's and down the street from Edith Lucielle's Bait Shack & Wing Depot. I like playing closer to home but if I need to make the drive to CR-- I hope it's to Triple Play Park!

A fenced off dog run has been added with two separate areas for large and small dogs. During warm weather there are clean restrooms open for your use in a pavilion. The pavilion can also be reserved for picnics and other activities Two large gravel parking areas are on the premises. Across a small street are facilities for tennis and another small play area, along with a field for youth baseball.

This field is top notch, by the way. :) Moving on is the concession stand and restrooms. Restrooms are small and have 2 stalls, but clean. There are several youth baseball and softball fields. The fields are well kept. Most of the fields have bleachers, however we typically bring our own chairs. Directly behind the baseball/softball fields are the youth soccer and football fields. Bring your own chairs for soccer and football games. Although there is a LARGE parking area, parking can be tight and/or non existent when all of the youth sports are happening. SRNA also has a tennis court, basketball hoops, and sand volleyball. The final building is the Timber Dome Lodge, which deserves it's own review. The Lake Macbride Trail starts here, which is a beautiful 5 mile trail into Lake Macbride State Park. Around the entire complex is a walking or biking trail. There are a couple of ponds used for wildlife conservation. The City of Solon does a great job of maintaining this area!

My main interaction with the park is from many walks around the trail or biking through as it connects to the larger bike trail system, and it's ideal for both! Oh and most importantly, this mythical dream park is for ADULTS ONLY. If you have, consider yourself warned: DO NOT go to Mercer Park. Because oh my gosh, you'll be totally jealous at what the Iowa City kiddos get to play on. Iowa City's largest play area (I'm hard pressed to think of a bigger one) is only two years old and is pure magic. It's got a sensory play center, a net climbing course, a MASSIVE tower with enclosed slide and equipment meant for kiddos ages 2-to-5. There are also shelters, picnic tables, grills, lit baseball/softball fields, tee ball field, tennis courts, a refurbish old fire engine play structure... you name it-- it's got it. Even the indoor aquatic center lives at Mercer, too. There's ample parking and literally kids (and adults?) of all ages will enjoy it. My kids (ages 2 and 4) absolutely love the ginormous tower and crazy four person seesaw. Come check it out!

You can reserve ball fields through the Coralville Rec online, via a form. (Spring softball fields are insanely hard to come by and require a draft.) The park boasts four softball diamonds that are well maintained. - Concession Stand. Gotta love a well stocked, well priced and shaded concession stand! - Proximity to Uptown Marion. Gotta love a quick five minute drive to grab some food! Things I didn't like: - Holy Parking, Batman. You basically need to park at the adjacent middle school or high school parking lots on tournament days. It's a lot of walking so make sure you're getting there early! - The Shade Situation. Uh, what shade? There are some trees planted that in ten years will be amazing but as of now, expect it to be a hot one at Lowe Park. Overall, the Marion community is lucky to have Lowe Park. It boasts some rad looking trails, an amphitheater, arts + environment center, community gardens, sculpture trail, an inclusive play structure and some pretty well done ballparks, IMO. On our first attempt, we attended a work outing in the mezzanine area that got rained out after the 1st inning. Super disappointing. (Normally if the game is rained out, ticket holders are able to return for the rescheduled game. But they took our tickets when we entered the mezzanine.) This area has a great view from right field and groups can enjoy complimentary food and beverage throughout the game. Luckily, the other day I won a set of tickets from work and it turned out to be a beautiful evening so we were able to enjoy the entire game. The stadium is super clean and comfortable. Walking around the concessions area seems a little crowded but sitting never seems as full. (Typical minor leagues game.) There's plenty of free parking around the stadium, even after the game has started, and getting out isn't an absolute nightmare especially because the crowds clear out as the game goes on. Concession stand pricing is inflated as usual, but they seem to offer specials on a regular basis. Tickets are super affordable. All around it's a great option for cheap, wholesome fun!

We came from Twin Cities, MN area about 4 hours away. Upon leaving I snapped the photo, it was fitting as it was memorial weekend.
