I took some recommendations, Mike and the team at Club 300 continued to be top of peoples' lists. I met with Mike and started working with him and was immediately impressed by the ABC. A - The Attention to detail in preparing the sessions, giving appropriate nutritional advice, critiquing movement patterns and adapting both sessions and practices to suit my race schedule and abilities. B - Working with me to master the Basics and explaining the underpinning anatomy, physiology and biomechanics behind why and how we were going to achieve the aim. C - Continually adapting sessions to meet the aim and keep them Challenging but achievable. For me lastly it is the warm and welcoming atmosphere that Mike and the whole team have created that deserves mention. It is no way an intimidating place to train and I quite genuinely look forward to every session. I can't recommend Club 300 highly enough.

They offer excellent baby classes at very reasonable prices, with great instructors. Staff are also very friendly and helpful that it makes swimming one with a wee one more enjoyable. There is such a lot to interest all ages of children, and with a training pool for older kids and adults then there is something for everyone. The cafe is a bit of a disappointment as far as adult and older children's food is concerned but I was pleased to find a microwave to heat the little ones food. Haven't tried the outdoor pool yet but maybe on a very nice day?!

It has a swimming pool, with a flume, and a smaller baby pool, but the main pool, although people use it for lane swimming, gets shallower so this may be difficult to do. The gym however is well equipped and changing room facilities are adequate. There are two squash courts which are in good working order and rackets and balls can be borrowed which mean you do not need to take your own. There is a reasonable cafe to satisfy those who get the munchies after a good work out or lengthy swim, or even perfect for parents to wait while kids are having lessons.

You are charged for a two hour session starting around 4 pounds then increases as they children get older. I and under are free though so this is a bonus. There is a reasonable coffee shop which offers the usual types of refreshments and some hot food. So as long as your children are old enough to play by themselves you can have a cuppa, read the paper and relax while they play. It used to be my friends favourite Saturday or Sunday morning haunt when she had a hangover as she could recover while the kids had fun. It is very busy at the weekends as you might expect and the noise level can be quite high during these times. I believe they do special party packages for the kids. I found the place very claustrophobic with low ceilings and what might have been a bright decor originally but has descended into dinginess. The low ceilings probably contributed to the rather overwhelming noise levels - I've been in other, busier play barns before without so much noise, simply because high ceilings absorbed at least some of it. The food I found disappointed - my macaroni tasted odd and I couldn't finish it. The drinks were bargain branded but the prices were what you would pay for branded. 10 quid for a plate of macaroni, some extra chips, a nasty diluted drink and a non-branded cola is simply ridiculous. The play areas seemed more cramped than others I have been to and the older bit was quite dark. The 3-5 section was perhaps a bit tame for the almost 5s and whilst the gated entry is a good idea, the teenage staff member posted to it was often not there at all and seemed to have no ability to prevent bigger kids getting in, both of which rather defeated the point of the gate. Not impressed, there's plenty of other places around which are better value, newer, cleaner and better equiped.
