It was a Saturday night and I had two choices - to spend it vicariously through the characters of some TV series I was bingeing on, or to drag myself out of bed and interact with actual people. I chose the latter and found myself meeting up with some friends at (apparently) their usual hangout: Dyce n Dyne. Unlike them, Dyce n Dyne is not the usual place I'd spend my Saturday nights at, well basically because it was quite...wholesome. I mean have you ever been to a game bar? You know, those places that have this amazing library of not-your-basic board games where your group can just hangout and play? The first time (and probably the last) I went to one was when I was fresh out of college. One such place opened in Katipunan and my friends brought me there. (It was called Gamefrog; it's no longer open.)
Anyway, so I found myself in Dyce n Dyne and to tell the truth, I had a good time. I will be honest - I wasn't really expecting it since I'm not really into board games but when they brought out that game called DiXit [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dixit_(card_game) ], I was suddenly roused. Of course it helped that the place is comfy. When I got there, it was accommodating a Saturday crowd - though it isn't crazy-packed, almost all the tables were taken. As expected, excitement reverberated in the air - thank God for its high, multi-level, ceiling, there was space for the noise to dissipate into a tolerable level.
Other than their collection of games ranging from the basic to the brain-wracking ones that could pretty much prepare you for public office (most of which I haven't even heard of), for a wholesome place, they serve decent rumcokes. I don't know what rum they use or what they put in it but it definitely has hints of vanilla. My friends swear the food's good. Unfortunately, I was too full to try any of it. Perhaps next time.... (So yes, there'd probably be a next time.) read more
