Fast forward to my life as an expat in Manila and it's been a long journey to find a good bowl of pho. The mall chains kill the craving but never really satisfy. I thought I wouldn't ever find a spot to fill the pho-shaped hole in my heart until I randomly decided to try this spot after Mass in Greenbelt. The place looked super hip and colorful, almost like it was trying too hard. I was a little worried but I'm glad I went with my gut (literally) and came in for some Vietnamese goodness. I ordered iced ginger and lemongrass tea (₱90) to go along with my bowl of beef pho (₱450). Yes, the prices are a bit steep but they are totally worth how high quality and fresh the ingredients were. The tea packed a real punch and didn't seem watered down at all. The pho was amazing. Normally I taste the broth before adding any hoisin or sriracha to see if it can stand on its on. The broth here definitely could. There was also a generous serving of noodles, garnish, beef, and fresh herbs. My only gripe was that the noodles were a tad harder than I was used to but it still didn't ruin the meal. Service was attentive though it took awhile for me to get my bill. I thought that, for the prices, it would be just another "Estancia" restaurant. But, I was pleasantly surprised with the dishes that I have tried here. I like the following dishes: Pomelo & Shrimp Salad, Bun Cha Gio Thit Nuong (Fried Spring Rolls, Grilled Pork Patties with Rice Noodles), Pho Bo (Beef Noodle Soup), and Pho Bo Kho (Beef Stew Noodle Soup). My niece had a vegetarian pad Thai although she said it lacked a bit of seasoning and ended up using the fish sauce from the spring roll as an added flavoring agent. My sister had the fried pork rice paper rolls. For desert, we shared the coconut and Pandan pudding. As a California native where there are so many Vietnamese and Thai restaurants to choose from especially in the SoCal/OC area, it's a little hard for me to not be critical of what I know Vietnamese and Thai flavors should taste like. All the fillings were fresh and the sauce topped off the flavors. Its a close 2nd place compared to the best, in my opinion, to Saigon Sandwich in SF Ca which is what I compare all Bahn Mi's to.
