Books are in great to excellent condition condition. Prices are marked in pencil on the first white page. Most books are $10. Want a bargain? Look for the suitcase with $5 books. Staff is friendly and helpful. They take cash or card. I only had a small backpack with me so could only purchase one book but would have bought more if I had a bigger bag. Will come back next time I'm in town.

Actually, this place is pretty cool, and really does have that musty feel of second-hand books lining the walls. They have a pretty decent selection as well, though it can be a bit difficult for me to find a book that I am interested in these days. Still, it's a second-hand bookshop, so I'll be giving it points for that.

The shelves are full of variety, new current and some older harder to find books. If there is something that you can not find just ask the guys at the counter, they are extremely approachable, and know there thing about books. If it's not in store they will order it in for you, no worries at all.. When the books arrive, they will phone you or send a message if you prefer to let you know your books are in. I love the small businesses and strongly encourage everyone to stop in and keep our book stores alive.. There is a place for ebooks, but you can not go past the enjoyment of curling up on a raining day and turning the pages of your favourite book.. A lot of Books can certainly help you find your love for books again. Oh, they also have a range of gift items and games available - it's not all about the books.. Catching them in their last hour of trade on Friday night in what was also their first week being opened, I popped into Where The Wild Things Are looking for a few special gifts for the little grasshoppers in my life. I was told that the current stock is just a snippet of what's to come. There's your usual Dr Seuss, Thomas The Tank Engine and Mem Fox titles but also collections of equally endearing children's books about the adventures of sloths, Japanese children's stories and more. From Grug to the Hungry Catepillar and Hairy McClary - the young and young at heart will be able to indulge in and discover the wonder between the pages at Where The Wild Things Are.

This guy is just a place with wall-to-wall books on everything from design to art, fashion, food, photography, poetry, design, and just about every topic that's ever been written about. They also have a pretty sweet collection of fiction and some truly fantastic journals and diaries bound to look like antique books. So good. The trouble is picking a section in which to start browsing, because you get turned around and dazed with so many book and category choices. A kind of strange thing that stands out about Folio Books for me is that everything is shiny and new. I like a little bit of history to my books but this isn't an antique store, I must remind myself, so I shouldn't be too judgmental. This place has a ridiculously extensive range of books to delight and inspire.

As you walk to the back of the shop, you'll come across a lounge room environment. Four sets of red couches, all facing each other, with a coffee table, complete with chess board in the middle. Delight! The books are priced according to colour coding. On the first page of each book, you'll find either a red ($5), blue ($8), green ($12), yellow ($16), black ($20) or pink dot ($24). Don't ask me who came up with the prices, but the system they use seems to be fair and easy for everyone to use. It is a volunteer run bookshop, stocked by donations. Their method of book keeping is as quaint as the place itself. When I strolled up to the counter, after having lounged with my new discovered book, I watched the man russell around for a pencil and scrap of paper to write down details of the book he'd just sold. Annerley Community Bookshop is as comfortable as your own lounge room. It serves as a lovely refuge from the smoke and hassle that is Ipswich Road.

This store is ideal for those wanting to brush up on the classics, the shelves here are heaving with many great literary titles. I bought one of my first Isabel Allende books here and could not have been more chuffed with the price ($8!) or the friendly service I received. Keep an eye on the coffee table and art books as there is usually a gem hidden somewhere amongst the rubble. (It's where I managed to score a huge 300 page photography tome.) With cosy couches and stacks and stacks of prime reading material to review. (Someone please buy up the vintage National Geographics before I do.) They have most categories covered, from the Classics to English Literature, to Australiana, to Fantasy, spanning into all assortments of DIY manuals. The pricing is a little unpredictable, but generally agreeable. I went in there to find picture books, and came across this very old, worn, hard cover book on wildflowers. Every page was filled with beautiful, intricate illustrations and poetic little descriptions. It was a mere 75c. There were other books, newer books, of which they had several copies which would all have been around the $15- $30 price range. Who knows how that works, but it just does. I love the atmosphere. It's half chaotic bookstore/ half family lounge room. I had to happily negotiate footsteps with a few children tummy side down, lounging in between the corridors today. The shelves just ask to be rummaged through. The owner, a lovely older gentlemen, who for some reason reminds me something of David Attenborough completes the scene. I find it hard to leave this place empty handed. It's perfect for finding that great little book treasure you'd never even thought of before. Today I walked out with an illustrated dictionary of Birds of Paradise. Hooray!

I am a fan of bookshops, I even quite like chain bookshops, but most of all I love old bookshops…read more Bookshops like Boswell's that feel like they've grown organically over the years, where the comforting smell of old books has soaked into the walls, where you'll find odd stacks and get lost in strange turns in the shelves and where you know that your best friend is the person behind the counter as without them you may never find what you're looking for. Boswell's does a great line in second hand books, particularly hard to find titles, and they also have a sideline going in coins and other collectables. I must admit that coins don't really rock me, but I do enjoy peering through dusty glass display cases and there are often lovely little pieces of jewellery and curious trinkets to find and lust over. Boswell's will also buy boxes of your old books from you, at a lower rate of course however it's better than giving them away (or, horror of horrors, throwing them out). It also means that you will feel a little bit more justified when you buy that limited edition boxed set....
