We are only staying…read morein the area for a few months and needed the amenities offered at this Y, but didn't want to pay the activation fee for such short use so they waived it for us. Prices for activities and clubs are reasonable, factoring in the membership fee. The workout area is always kept in great condition, and rarely do they have machines not working. When they do, they are fixed very quickly. The only thing I am not so pleased with is the pool. It would be better for families if they had an infant area for toddlers/young children to paddle and an indoor pool at this location would be a plus since the Esic YMCA location is older and less appealing/boring. We did have a negative experience at the boot camp at the Esic, where the female instructor paid absolutely no attention to us as newcomers and people who were unfamiliar with the exercises. We looked stupid standing around and frequently did the wrong thing since we couldn't remember the circuit. She was too busy working out herself.... not pleased.

Today however when this issue came up, an older woman named Mary Ann was adamant that I was not listed on the account and could not stay. We showed the phone login that clearly lists me as a family member on the account and showed the email from a year ago where I signed the appropriate waivers. Mary Ann informed us that all of that didn't matter, and when we told her we had been doing this for a year with no issues she responded with "well then we fucked up. But there's smart people working at the front now". And during all of this the two younger girls working the counter were making rude side commentary and giving our family dirty looks. We insisted a manager be contacted but when Mary Ann called the manager she openly lied with us there stating we were refusing to sign waivers. We called her out and said that isn't true we are fining signing paperwork again but Mary Ann also insisted that we would only be allowed to have me with them this one last time even with the paperwork. So we left, cancelled the membership and will be going elsewhere. The entire experience was bad enough but with the kind of language Mary Ann used and the disparaging comments about previous workers clearly show this is not a family friendly establishment. I'm also not unconvinced that some of the attitudes stemmed from their personal discrimination opinions as it was also obvious my sisters are part of a same sex marriage relationship.

The children were cute as could be in their costumes, but in the dance numbers in particular there was a bit too much shimmy and suggestiveness performed to songs with lyrics that were not age-appropriate. One was hard-pressed to see much, if any, of actual dance steps. If this was supposed to be the showcase for what a child could learn at Fitness & Fun, it seemed a bit too "pageanty". The one performance by the obviously advanced students, a beautiful contemporary dance number, only served as a disconnect; how does a child get from shaking her booty to that? As for the cheer, I know for a fact that the cheer groups learned many athletic moves but very few were seen here. If I were a parent contemplating enrolling a child in the fall sessions based on this show alone, I'd be looking elsewhere. The choreography relied entirely too much on the twinkle factor, disturbingly so. Not being a child beauty pageant fan, the similarity between that and this was a definite turn-off. It is also worth mentioning that there is an obvious parent "clique" at this place, and those outside the clique are treated with minimal civility at best by the front desk people. It would be well worth the drive to go elsewhere if one wants a child to actually learn dance.
