Reasons why I love the workout: 1. Treadmills / running are incorporated! I love to run but I hate when I have to chose either weights or running. I love Shred because it keeps both! 2. Minimal thought/ experience required. You don't have to wait for equipment or think about what your next set is going to consist of because they tell you what to do the entire time! Also, if you don't know how to do something- it doesn't matter- because your instructor shows you each move before they expect you to do it. Reason why I love this location specifically: The Instructors & Staff are just the best! I truly feel like I have made some great friends here and that all of the people in this location genuinely care about you. It's so nice that I can pick my classes to go with my favorite instructors or I can take one with someone that's not in my regular "schedule" and I still get the same amazing workout and attention. Overall, the gym is clean, safe, but most importantly fun! 100% would recommend to anyone of any experience level!

There are few few Gyms that have a sauna, indoor pool and a hot tub that I can think of in the St. Louis area, and none in Illinois apart from SIUE. Tim is an amazing coach who motivates you to do and be better! His energy is as intense as the workouts! Classes start at 5am everyday. Boxing is incorporated into Tuesday and Thursday classes. Each class is different which keeps things diverse, avoiding boredom. Classes are group workouts so you have fellow gym goers supporting and motivating you. Each class is signed up for via the MINDBODY app. Showers are available if needed. Highly recommend this place!!!

Or maybe it seems so because it is two floors. Nice open concept. I like it. The equipment was clean and in good working order. Weights were available in the area where I was, up to 45 pounds. Likely there were more somewhere else. My only "complaint" is about some of the patrons - and I haven't let that impact my review of the business, but... There were 3 benches near the weights. Only me and one young couple back there. They had taken all 3 benches - one to hold their phones, and one for each of them to sit on. I asked, politely, to use the "phone bench" and they obliged. I was doing some circuits. 3 rounds. Db press, shoulder press, push ups. Round one was smooth. On my second round, as I was doing pushups in the floor - directly behind the bench - one of them sat on the bench I was using and started doing chest presses. I had to wait for her to finish. Listen, I have zero issue working in with other people when it's busy - it wasn't - but, having to wait while one person uses 3 benches; including one to hold cells?Seems a bit much. How do we educate people on proper gym etiquette? Thank for the decent place to work out. I plan to visit throughout the week, after class.

Everything is always clean, and there is always an employee cleaning as well as filling the sanitation stations. The music playing in one of the weight rooms wasn't loud or distracting and the gym wasn't crowded. They have sufficient equipment and maintain a classic atmosphere with enough old school style equipment to keep the gym from being crowded with internet weirdos. Since it's a Nautilus gym I immediately looked for a pullover machine and found one but it had a sign on it that said "out of order". The girl at the front desk informed me that machine turnaround typically doesn't take long. I trusted that it was just a damaged elbow pad and not that they were trying to keep people from using this machine- which for some reason I expected would be either nonexistent or out of order(which almost no other gyms in the St Louis area have). I also noticed one other machine which was out of order. They have a few other amenities which may or may not be accessible to members(as they have at least one other business operating within the facility). At first glance this gym seems great and I found the staff to be welcoming and personable. They're open 24 hours and the pricing is similar to club fitness. Five stars only because they're the only gym in the area like them. I would have given four stars for the signature pullover machine being out of order as expected but I prefer that they don't close this place over a bad yelp review- some room for improvement, but otherwise much better atmosphere than all of the other chain gyms in the area.

Prices for activities and clubs are reasonable, factoring in the membership fee. The workout area is always kept in great condition, and rarely do they have machines not working. When they do, they are fixed very quickly. The only thing I am not so pleased with is the pool. It would be better for families if they had an infant area for toddlers/young children to paddle and an indoor pool at this location would be a plus since the Esic YMCA location is older and less appealing/boring. We did have a negative experience at the boot camp at the Esic, where the female instructor paid absolutely no attention to us as newcomers and people who were unfamiliar with the exercises. We looked stupid standing around and frequently did the wrong thing since we couldn't remember the circuit. She was too busy working out herself.... not pleased.

Today however when this issue came up, an older woman named Mary Ann was adamant that I was not listed on the account and could not stay. We showed the phone login that clearly lists me as a family member on the account and showed the email from a year ago where I signed the appropriate waivers. Mary Ann informed us that all of that didn't matter, and when we told her we had been doing this for a year with no issues she responded with "well then we fucked up. But there's smart people working at the front now". And during all of this the two younger girls working the counter were making rude side commentary and giving our family dirty looks. We insisted a manager be contacted but when Mary Ann called the manager she openly lied with us there stating we were refusing to sign waivers. We called her out and said that isn't true we are fining signing paperwork again but Mary Ann also insisted that we would only be allowed to have me with them this one last time even with the paperwork. So we left, cancelled the membership and will be going elsewhere. The entire experience was bad enough but with the kind of language Mary Ann used and the disparaging comments about previous workers clearly show this is not a family friendly establishment. I'm also not unconvinced that some of the attitudes stemmed from their personal discrimination opinions as it was also obvious my sisters are part of a same sex marriage relationship.
