Incredibly improfessional, this man ignored emails and phone calls for weeks leading up to my…read morewedding, and on the eve of the wedding called us and insulted my wife when she made it clear how unhappy we were that our communications had been ignored for so long. The ego on this man made him refuse to accept or acknowledge that his behavior was unacceptable. He ended up fired, and we ended up with no DJ at our wedding. Avoid this one.

Note: we attempted to resolve this privately via email and nearly a week later, Dan has yet to…read morerespond. Firstly, if your wedding is during a Titans game, you run the risk of DJ Dan himself watching the game on his phone throughout the reception, as we were informed he was doing. Secondly, and most importantly, we explicitly asked for edited songs to be played and were assured by DJ Dan himself - both in my initial call with him and in the follow-up the days before the wedding - that he would only play unedited songs if a couple requested. And we did not. Rather, we worked to ensure that while rap and hip hop could be played later in the evening right before the send-off, that when they were played, they would only be edited versions of songs. And, yet, when rap and hip hop both played, they were unedited. This meant our 80-something year old grandparents were forced to hear "Yeah, I like to f***, I got a f***ing problem. I love bad b***ch that's my f***ing problem ... Oh baby I like it raw with a shimmy shimmy ya ... never met another mother f***er fresh like me ... Cause I'm the n****, the n**** n**** ... turn a d*ke b**ch out have her f***ing boys, beast." This prompted not only a morning of tears from my new wife, but for us to take time sending personalized emails out to about half of our wedding party - primarily to our family members traveling from out of town - who were horrified to hear those elicit words blasted at the reception, taking responsibility for having such illicit and vulgar language to be played at our reception. Don't get me wrong. Some people want that to be played at their wedding - and that's fine if it's your preference - but if you're paying someone to be the professional and they assure you multiple times they won't play unedited music, you expect that to be followed through on. Additionally, it was off putting to hear he played recent R&B during our cocktail hour, as opposed to our requested Motown/Big Band/Bing Crosby type music. That was not something we asked for and he took the liberty to change that without asking us. Ultimately, if someone is charging nearly $1000 for a service and has informed a client that only edited and non-vulgar music would be played, that commitment should be followed through on so the day after their wedding isn't spent filled with tears and time mitigating relational strain with family members. And that if he is going to make an in-the-moment decision about music, even if background music, he should check in with his clients first.  DJ Dan emailed us the day after the wedding and tried to blame the situation on being up in a crow's nest. But being closer to the floor to better communicate only would have helped cut down on the number of times my wife had to climb stairs during the reception to continually remind Dan that we didn't want unedited songs to be played. But being closer wouldn't change the choice to allow unedited songs to play in the first place - which is the opposite of what we had agreed to on the phone. During our final call with Dan, he confused us with another couple - asking me about a dance with my son. We laughed on the phone, but now I'm wondering if he confused us with another couple and may have been working off a playlist that wasn't ours (His online system is incredibly wonky and outdated. We basically built a Spotify playlist for him to play, but then didn't even get what we put on the list). Only hire Dan if you want to run the risk of having a reception that isn't what you planned and hoped for when you paid him nearly $1000.

My birthday party was December 10 and it was currently early in November. Given the number of Christmas parties and other things going on in December I was pretty desperate to lock someone down because I wanted karaoke for my birthday party damn it and I intended to get it. After an unhelpful shout out to local yelpers (no responses..booo!), I used the google to find some local places. I finally settled on Nashville Party Authority because a) the price was lower than the other and b) Blair really talked to me about songs that would be available and c) he made me feel comfortable that he would be there and knew how to lead a party. True to his word, Blair was there with a DJ in training and were already set up by 8pm. He assured me that they would play awesome dance music until people got up enough liquid courage to sing and would advertise the karaoke so that people could get their guts up. He had most every song we wanted to sing (very few were not available) and played music in between when I was opening gifts and when people weren't signed up to sing. There was no actual SIGNING up either, just walk up and tell him and you are UP NEXT or put in exact order as signing up. Since it was a private party with only 40ish guests it wasn't hard to sing whatever you want. He had half of my party dancing their asses off in between songs too so he knows how to get people feeling festive. By the way, so does alcohol!! They bring the sound, the books for jogging your memory on songs, microphones (two), the TV with words, everything you need except a bunch of singers to get your groove on. Cost was also reasonable for the time of year, Saturday night party, and the relatively late booking. I intend to keep this guy in my mental rolodex to use again next time I want to have a fun party. You should keep them in your mental rolodex too!!

What is there to say about the best DJ in Nashville? I literally could go on and on about how…read moreamazing my wedding was, especially the reception because of Tim! He had literally everyone on the dance floor, including my 100-year-old grandmother, dancing the night away. I also think he booked about 2 to 3 other events just because of my wedding and I'm so grateful I was able to introduce my friends and family to this incredible talent. If I can give him 10 stars, I would. Hire him. Run, don't walk!

Mindub is the man! No. Joke…read more I must preface that Mindub has been a yelpy DJ/entertainment sponsor at our inaugural Yelp Helps event last November and will also be offering his DJ and also photography services again for Yelp Helps in a few weeks. I have also worked with him professionally fir Nashville Fashion Week as well. This fella is versatile! So to be fair, I won't review my experiences at those events or with our business dealings but instead on other events that he has been a part of. Ready? Let's go. Most recently, I was really impressed when Tim/Mindub set up at the Suzy Wong Garden Party that my friend Arnold and I planned. He was professional, friendly, and just always seemed to know what tune "just needed" to be played next. He does a great job of playing to the theme of events and with this being a fundraiser for the Ms. Gay America Pageant, dance music was what got the party started. Even as the requests became sillier after the drinks were a flowin', he still kept his charm and enthusiasm and is just all around a really nice guy. You have probably popped into a Mindub or DubChek photobooth too if you have been to recent event produced by the Nashville Scene... his photobooth setup is always a lot of fun and the pictures always come out great and as damning evidence on how much fun you were really having too! Most recently at the Sounds Like Summer concert series, my friends and I literally photo-bombed his booth which resulted in some of the most funny and memory enhancing pictures that I have taken in a long time. Tim and his partner both just make the experience. Lastly, he also offers a full range of photography services too. This fella may be the Jack of all trades, right? I would definitely recommend his services to anyone planning an event or if you need some professional photography work completed.

DJ Aries did an outstanding job as DJ for my son and daughter-in-law's wedding…read more He had just the right touch. He took charge where he was supposed to - keeping a bilingual wedding and reception on track. But he knew this wasn't the DJ Aries show. He knew the bride and groom were the stars -- so he mostly stayed in the background and kept the happy couple front and center. He did a great job with the music. Well before the wedding, he listened to input from the bride and groom and created an eclectic mix of music that was enjoyable to the wide range of guests, young and old, with just the right Latin and country twist for two far-flung families gathering in Nashville. He arrived hours ahead of time and set up using battery-powered equipment, so he would be prepared if it rained (it did). He came with a plan, but was able to pivot with no stress when details changed. DJ Aries is fluent in both English and Spanish -- and he smoothly made all announcements in both languages. He was a likeable guy, easy to get along with, and a pleasure to have at the important event. After the wedding, several guests told me how great a job the DJ did. I highly recommend DJ Aries.
