The Cattows Farm Shop is a family-run shop and tea room in Heather. As a child the best thing about…read moresummer was my mam taking me to the Cattows to pick strawberries - and the same for all my friends! Their strawberry fields are famous enough to have provided some inspiration for their Strawberry Fields Festival, which is a new venture into the music world and this year will feature Mystery Jets and Kelis. The shop stocks all kinds of items - from staples like tomatoes, cucumbers and potatoes, as well as frozen meat, to baked goods (they've started selling cupcakes, and they've sold scones and the like for a while), preserves and more exciting produce like Romanesco cauliflowers. There are brands like Belvoir Fruit Farms as well as their own, and most products are very logical - they stock things to go with their produce, like stuffing mix and cream. You could easily go in with an idea of what you want for tea and then buy it all there, at least if you prefer a more traditionally English meal. I've never tried the tea room, but it's a big area with traditional cakes and tea, and strawberries in the summer. I'm not sure how they compare price-wise. Shopping here is more expensive than grabbing a pack of pre-packaged tomatoes from Tesco, but the whole experience is different - you know that the food's actually being sold with pride, and you know where it's come from. It's not expensive enough to put my parents off buying their greens here as much as possible, although we do still get most from supermarkets for the sheer convenience. If you have the time and the money, the goods here reflect that - you get big, leafy cabbages, knobbly potatoes and generally healthier-looking, less uniform goods! You genuinely get excited about going, and about unpacking everything after. The Cattows is a little out from anywhere - you'll need to drive along country roads from most places - but then again, it stands out for itself. Recommended!

In the centre and around the side are artisan breads and rolls, impressive looking pastas, which are the colour of the rainbow, fine tea and coffee brands, as well as a multitude of other products geared towards the upcoming festive period. North's also has a coffee shop area, with bar type tables adjacent to the window, and larger tables for bigger groups by the door. A good selection of hot and cold drinks, including a very tempting looking hot chocolate, as well as fresh Danish pastries and croissant's on the counter where you order. More substantial meals included a variety of sandwiches, hot panini's and homemade soup; a festive Turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwich was popular on the day. We plumped for an Earl Grey tea and an Americano, with chicken, pesto and mozzarella panini to share. Refreshing tea, strong flavoursome coffee and a delicious ample portioned sandwich, with a side of dressed salad and coleslaw, was a bit of a triumph, and the homemade mince pie was a sweet treat after too. North's also make up hampers to order, which is definitely worth knowing for next Christmas!

So even when doing a regular shop you can pick up those extras too. Like all Tesco I find their pricing average and it is very easy to spend more than you planned on doing! But the choice is good, well laid out and the store is clean. I always find the staff a bit aloof. It is hard to explain but this is quite a dull supermarket. There is a cafe but the times I have grabbed something to eat there it has been very disappointing and really only good for a cuppa if you are parched. The customer toilets are well maintained. There is a petrol station onsite and recycling facilties in the car park.

A great way to spend an early summer's day, soaking up the sun and picking some of the very best tasting fruit. Sadly, closed until next year now, for the fruit to replenish. The right fork goes to Scaddow's farm shop, a great place to buy local produce. The shop, whilst not huge, has a great selection of meat, dairy products and cheeses (infused with chilli, ginger, apricots etc.) Home-made bread, teacakes, jams and marmalades too. A great variety of fruit and veg, fresh and mostly local, and surprisingly reasonably priced, competitive with local supermarkets. Scaddows also has a small cafe selling an impressive, but small range of items. A range of home-made soups, scones, teacakes and cream cakes, are the lion's share of the menu. A small selection of indoor and outdoor seating for the diners; the picnic benches outside have an unbelievable view across the fruit picking fields, through to Ticknall and beyond. Very peaceful and one of our favourite places to have lunch at the moment.

The store is clean, well stocked and the staff helpful and friendly. Lots of products (bread, ready meals, pizza) made on the premises. Despite it's medium size the variety and selections are great. There is an extensive cafe for breakfast and lunch with very reasonable prices, once the COVID pandemic is over - if that ever comes to pass! Speaking of COVID I find their prep and precautions of a somewhat lower standard than the nearby Sainsbury's which has become my "go to" for most things these days. If it's so good why not 5 stars - if they were to provide Internet for their customers then 5 gleaming stars could be a possibility :)

It has a large easily accessible car park and there are steps from Swadlincote town centre that bring you out right next to the entrance. It has a comprehensive range of facilities including cash points, a dry cleaning facility and a large cafe. The shop itself is vast, opening with huge fruit and vegetable area, flanked by a fishmongers and a salad bar. The fruit and veg here is easily the best in terms of quality and variety of the supermarkets in the area. This Morrisons also has a comprehensive audio visual section, which has a good mix of chart CDs, games and DVDs, along with some great bargains. A hot meats counter, a large bakery and a desserts area complete the back end of the shop. The home section at the centre of the shop, provides quality homeware for people just starting out in the first home, as well as more luxuriant items. The large butchers in the far corner serves a wide variety of different meats and cuts. As with any Morrisons, there are some great deals to be found on virtually anything and as a result make it a great place to shop. But what often goes unnoticed is that this store is always well stocked and kept impeccably clean. Attached to the store is a large cafe, which again is maintained well. It has a wide variety of cold and hot drinks, sandwiches, and snacks, as well as a constantly updated hot food menu. The food is tasty and inexpensive, but for me has an overeliance on chips, but this doesn't stop the cafe being extremely popular. The Morrison Petrol Station is a little way from the main store, selling petrol at a competitive price, with an added car wash. Access to and from the petrol station can be tricky at peak times though.
