You are given a miner's jumpsuit and a locker to put your valuables in....no personal recording devices on this tour! Next, you get picked up by a miner's train and the tour begins...you are taken directly into a mountain through some very narrow passages. At the end of the railway, you get off and begin walking through various rooms showing you the history of the mine, including various pieces of equipment used over the years. You learn a little bit about the topography of the mountain range and how extensive the mine and others like it are. At two separate points, you slide down a wooden slide, and go deeper into the earth. Smile, because there is one of those attraction cameras that catch your reaction to the descent. A little more walking and you are corralled onto a floating platform that floats (it's pulled by a pulley system) across an underground lake. The water is crystal clear and there is a very nice light show as you cross. At the end of the tour, you hop back on the train and ascend to where you originally got on. Someone is there to take yet another picture of you! Once you are off the train, you turn in your jumpsuit, retrieve your belongings, and exit through the gift shop. The gift shop consists of bottles of salt from the mine, as well as the usual touristy stuff: clothing, bags, postcards, etc. Parking for tourists is across the street in a paid lot with a tunnel to get you safely across the road. We were lucky, in that our tour had about 15-20 people in it, so we could see and hear everything quite easily. The day was sunny and clear, so maybe people just didn't want to be inside on such a nice day, but that is exactly when I would advise to see something like this, as it apparently gets very crowded on rainy days. 19/2021

There are two floors of photos, audio clips, maps, films and hundreds of paper documents. The employees are very nice and attempt to speak English when speaking to patrons from the USA. I do not recommend bringing young children. The photos are graphic and the material is harsh. It's not a feel good kind of place. We quickly ran through the museum and spent the majority of our time down in the bunker. It was spread out and there was a plaque that explained each room and what is was used for.

It is very easy to find and a very colorful building. We didn't take the tour, but went right into the gift shop and started looking around. I have never seen so many flavors of schnapps in my life! Everything came in the little, miniature bottles, as well as medium and larger sized bottles. They have trays of samples throughout the store of 6-7 different types that you can try with small, almost thimble sized shot glasses. If you want to try a sample of a flavor not on the trays, just go up to the bar area in the middle of the store and ask for it. We tried several samples at the bar - the legal drinking age is 16 for beer/wine, 18 for alcohol. My kids are 19 and 21 (although they look younger), so they asked me if they were old enough and I said yes and that was that - no checking of ID's or anything. We settled on the Blood Orange Schnapps (which was delicious!) and the miniature bottles are 1 euro each which was quite a bargain we thought. After you leave the store don't go right back to your car - behind the store is the most amazingly clear river. You can stand on an overlook to see it - and it is literally clear! You can see every rock, pebble or fish all the way to the bottom and it was just gorgeous! So make sure you take a look. Definitely stop here to taste some German culture!

Pro: The view, the history, and the crazy bus ride up and down the mountain…read more Con: The history, crazy bus ride is not for the weak. You will have to get a bus up the mountain from the bus station down the mountain, we had a rental car and it was only about 20 minutes from the central bus station in town. Once you get your ticket, go to the number of the bus at the platform, it's numbered 1 to 4. Get your merch after you come back down the mountain. The new electric buses going up the side is smooth and quiet. Info on the ride is first given in German than in English. Sit on the right side of the bus for pictures going up, left side when coming back down. Once you are up at the upper bus stop, you can walk into the tunnel for the elevator or take the 30 minutes crazy hike up to the Eagle's Nest. The tunnel is damp and wet from the moisture of the mountain, quite eerie in the tunnel and the elevator have an operator going up and down. At the top, you exit out in the tea house, where you can walk around 360 degree of the tea house. Where you exit from the elevator is where you will line up to go back down. The restaurant is both inside and outside, so pick which side you would want to see and dine accordingly. We got unlucky with cloud for the 1st hour we were up at the nest, but when it cleared up, the view was out of this world.

The views are SPECTACULAR! We stayed in Salzburg and had a rented car. The Kehlsteinhaus was about a 25-30 minute (very easy) drive from our hotel. Crossing the border from Austria into Germany was as easy as crossing state lines...no border patrol to worry about! Like Mark said, it is crowded, and you do need to decide how long you want to stay. What he didn't mention, is that the buses that take you up to the top, were specially built to handle the incline and change in altitude. This is why no personal vehicles are allowed. If you are afraid of heights, the best piece of advice that I can give you is to look at the floor of the bus. The road to the top is narrow, and there are very few, if any guard rails. Once you get above the tree line, you get great views, however! Once at the top, you still have another 100-200 feet to go, but this is in a brass elevator in the mountain! The building at the top is large, but easy to navigate through. The attraction inside is a red marble fireplace, which has numerous chunks missing due to the allies taking chippings as souvenirs. Take as much time as you need, but make sure you get outside to see the valleys all around, and catch a glimpse of the Königsee. You're in the Alps, people! Woo hoo!!!! 38/2020

The Boat rides leave from the tip of the Konigsee, and can be taken to One or Two spots for a different affordable price. Its a beautiful ride through the lake in the mountains. The entire tour is in German so if you don't speak the language you won't really know what's going on, but no need to as the ride is a reward in itself. Be sure to get to the Docking stations early so that you have time to head out to St. Bartholomew etc. and Hike around. There is also a hofbrau haus directly next to the church to have a nice meal while you wait to return to Berchtesgaden. It's a must do while in this beautiful area of Germany. Take the ride, and listen to the amazing echo's of the trumpets off the mountain side. Highly recommended, and well worth the price.

And over an easy 90 mins guided us through the beautiful and historically rich streets of Salzburg. At the end of the tour, he gave out a little map and postcard so that we can find our way around and write home with the lovely adventures. Of course, i got to say, the concept of a free walking tour is that it is tip based. This encourages most of us have a freely ranging knowledge share but also, for those of us able to, definitely give what you would've paid for a standard guided tour... or more because the work is excellent. After the tour, Leo stayed behind for quite some time to give curated advice for what to do or see next. Since it is all outdoors, i felt covid safe throughout the trip. In our opinion, it's the best way to see the filming locations, as many are scattered throughout Salzburg on small streets and paths that large buses simply can't access. It was also a wonderful way to experience the city itself. Our guide, who was from Australia, was fantastic--friendly, knowledgeable, and made the tour both fun and informative. Every stop was memorable. We also tried the bus tour but ended up getting off early. The only location the bus visits that the bike tour does not is the wedding church, which required about a 50-minute trip out and only a brief stop before heading back. That wasn't of much interest to us. Biking around Salzburg was relaxing and enjoyable, and we highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see the Sound of Music sites while experiencing the beauty of the city.

It was founded in around 700 making it the oldest in the German-speaking…read moreworld.The abbey features the church of course, a unbelievably beautiful old cemetery, a old bakery that still has a working mill and catacombs. Everything is free to visit except for the catacombs which cost not very much at all. The catacombs will only take you about 15 minutes to explore but there are very very steep stairs that you need to climb to get to them. Everything else you could explore in less than an hour. Does Abby is right next to the Funicular taking you up to the fortress so it's a good idea to tour both of these at the same time.
