I took 2 rental tuxedos in to be pressed along with the accompanying white long sleeved shirts at 4:55pm on 8/30 I picked them up today from Dimitri when I received the text that they were ready and took them to my sons My son just called and said that the white shirts are not in the bags with the tuxedos - I watched the lady at the counter tie each set up together before I left the store when I dropped them off - the wedding is Friday and we need them by tomorrow. I just left a voicemail for Dimitri and praying they have the shirts ready and they just somehow got separated. Wanted to write an update for my experience. Dimitri saw my review here and contacted me immediately to remedy the problem. As a bride, three days before my wedding, I was skeptical. But he wanted to make things right and asked me to bring my outfit back so he could personally clean it. I received the outfit back in great condition the next day. I've been frequenting here for about five years now and they always do an impeccable job. What makes Earl Cleaners special is that they go the extra mile. They have always tightened or outright replaced loose or missing buttons on sportscoats and overcoats without being asked to do so -- or charging for the service and again, the cleaning is bar none. I dropped off some clothing on December 23rd to wear over the holidays to Mass and what not. Being that they were closed on Christmas Eve, I was told that I could pick my clothing up same day, no problem. Well, I got lost in my workday and totally forgot about my cleaning. Chalking it up as loss, I just figured I'd pick something else out of the closet. Lo and behold, midday on Christmas Eve, Dimitri calls me, tells me he'll be at the shop for a few and that he knew I needed my clothing for the holiday and that I could come pick it up. Mind you, they're closed, but going that extra mile makes all the difference. There's a cleaners on every corner. They do a pretty good job here I've been here 3 times the first time I needed my dress back the next day... when I went to pick up my dress, they couldn't find it! then miraculously after waiting about 30 min at the desk while they were looking for it, they found my dress, it had not been cleaned yet. they said there was a stain they were trying to get out which is odd because I have not worn this dress before it was straight out of the package and there was no stain when I took it in. The second time I took my clothes in, when I went to pick them up, they had included an article of clothing that wasn't mine. I don't know what's going on here and I'd love to go back because they are affordable and do a good job but I love my clothes and don't want to lose them when I take them in to be cleaned. read more

Based on past experience, this was a steep charge and one I wasn't expecting. Prices aside - the company offers text alert notifications, treats for your furry friends, and service with a smile. So incredibly thankful for this locally owned business. After being quoted $1200 for a bustle and a steam and clean at a well known corporate bridal store, they quoted me a fraction of the price. And I mean fraction. George was very personable and upbeat. You can tell he is truly a master at his craft. I needed a ball gown altered so headed to see George. I had called ahead to make sure he was going to be there, and was told 10:30-3. I arrived at 10:30 and they said he was running late. Not a big deal, but a little disappointing when I had to sit and wait for 10-15-20 minutes (and there's only one chair). When he did arrive (with the poodle!) he was a nice little old friendly man. I changed in a tiny dressing room (right off the lobby) and then, well, had to stand in the lobby while he pinned the dress...while other customers came in and out of the store. I'm not bashful by any means, but it was a bit odd. The fitting only took about five minutes, and he gave me a pickup date of six days (I was there on Saturday and he said it would be done Friday). Unfortunately, when my husband went to pick it up Saturday (an extra day!) it wasn't done. Luckily I didn't NEED it that day, but I would have been ticked if I had. I don't have many alterations done so I don't know the etiquette, but I would have hoped they'd call to let me know it wasn't done when they said it would be. The new date was Tuesday, but I gave them until Thursday and it was done--YAY! The dress was altered flawlessly...and it fit perfectly...so they get four stars. They'd get five if they had a separate/private fitting area and had the garment done on time. read more

Earl Cleaners Review Took leather coat in and was told it would take a week. Reached out to them one week later Monday the 20th of December to be told that they hadn't started it yet and that the seamstress would get to it today I called Tuesday and was told the coat was still sitting on the table. I left my phone number and the owner then called me asking why my jacket was even there. When I told him about the zipper, he said there was nothing wrong with it so I explained about the sticking at the bottom and he tried it and told me the that the manufacturer had put the zipper in too tight and that he would move the zipper out and put a larger one in for me and it will take a few days which It did. I then called again and was told the coat was done and to come pick it up, when I got there, I paid for the zipper repair and the owner showed me the zipper and tested it in front of me and I left. When I got home to my horror there was 3 large gaps where the zipper wasn't even attached to the coat one was around 3 inches long. I called them and told them I wasn't happy and returned with the coat and showed one of the employees named Josh the large gaps he apologies to me and was very professional about it and took the coat back to show the owner and for it to be redone. I waited another week and still no call back so I called them and the coat still hadn't been done, with loud music in the background I was told it would be Wednesday due to there being an issue with the machine they use. Wednesday came and went and still no call so I called on Thursday the 30thof December, spoke to Josh again who told me he would keep bugging her till it was done. Lunch time came and I got a call. I then went to pick up the coat and to my horror where the zipper had been stitched into the coat had mangled the leather inside and out of it almost all the way up (see picks). I got a refund of my money and an apology but I am now left with a chewed-up leather coat and so far, have only worn it once and have had to already glue part of the leather back down where it came apart from the stitching they had done. As someone who is vertically challenged, it is a foregone conclusion that every pair of pants I own will need alterations. George and the other tailors on staff are reasonable, timely, and have always produced excellent alterations! Recently I had two cold weather jackets that needed new Velcro fasteners at the wrists, and the tailors at Earl's Cleaners did their usual excellent job. I called Friday hoping I could get something turned around in 24 hours. Unfortunately because people are working from home, they don't need to launder work shirts and stuff. Every single cleaner I called was over a week out. This suit is for my father-in-law whom was not expected to make it through the weekend and I wanted to have to ready when the time comes. I asked for recommendations on Facebook and had multiple people recommend this cleaner. I grew up in Royal Oak and knew this exact cleaner, I held my breath and called. I explained to her what I needed and she told me no problem. The owner would be happy to do it. She did start by saying they are about a week out.. I pleaded my case and I'm so thankful they were able to help me out. Yesterday, my father-in-law passed away. The last week has been such an emotional roller coaster, yesterday was just the ride ending. I woke up very early to ensure I was there when they opened. I walked in at 8:05 and greeted by the owner. I thanked him, explained why I was in a rush. He offered his condolences and made the experience better. I'm thankful I took the chance and called. As we engaged in conversation, he told me his business is down the drains. He went from 5-600 pieces of laundry a day to 4-500 in about a week- week and a half. He was respectful and went out of his way to help. He even told me that he had wished I didn't pre-pay because he does funeral clothes at no charge. Can you imagine? Fighting to keep you business alive but still offering your customers such kindness? It really is the neighborhood cleaner. I will without a doubt offer my recommendation for this cleaner and he won me over. Next time I need a dry cleaner I won't hesitate to come back. read more

They have been around for years, Family owned. They do a great job on the dry cleaning , I ask for very light starch and that's what I get . Missing a button, they will find one and add it at no charge. My GF is petite and has all of her jeans and dresses altered here by George the owner. He does a lot of wedding, bridesmaid's and prom dresses also. When you walk in the door watch out for the guard dog, a elderly miniature poodle. They are very well priced compared to the chain dry cleaners. Also very honest. I left some cash in a suit jacket. So now that I'm actually a customer and not just someone who locks her dog in her car and gets a ride home for a spare key from the owner (ala my previous review), I thought this was due for an update. George is a lifesaver. He has shortened my not so standard length "standard length" yoga pants. He has lengthened my too short jeans. He has patched (and subsequently repatched because someone had to demonstrate her low squat one night). But the icing on the cake was when I took my purse in because my dog (the same one from the car in the story before) decided that he had to have the chocolate bar that was in there, and as a result, he ate 98% of the lining too. While it took a while, and longer then I would have preferred, I got it back today and the lining is better then ever, and a much nicer lining too! And the best part? It was only $15 (and that included a cleaning) Go rip something just so he can fix it! read more

I once took my coat to a chain drycleaner when I moved 20 miles away and I will never do that again. No one cleans like Earl's! Now, when it comes to alterations-no one holds a candle to George! His craftsmanship is above par. Again, when I moved 20 miles away and needed 3 skirts taken in I went somewhere close. Well I learned my lesson. ALWAYS see George! I needed my wedding dress from the 1950s that was my grandmas cleaned in a pinch. Most other places over quoted me on price, or gave me an estimated time of months in advance. I explained that I really needed the dress ASAP to the owner, who was incredibly nice and genuine. The tailor is NEVER available. I was told to come at 10 am, I called before I left and they said he was not coming in. Yesterday they told me to come in around 5, but when I called to notifiy them I was coming they said he was not coming in. Today, I called and they said to come in at 1030. I called at 10:30 and they told me to come in at 11. Finally, I called at 11 and they said to come in at 11:30. I am VERY disappointed in their service and their inconsideration on how what they say effects people's plans. I took my service to Brother's Tailors and they immediately took me in and did a fantastic job. They know how to properly treat their customers. read more

I have to say, I have used Earl Cleaners for over twenty years! They are friendly, fast, so knowledgeable and have a great alterations department! The pricing is also the most reasonable in the Royal Oak, Clawson, Troy area. The thing I also appreciate, is that if they are ever jammed-think Prom time -They will always tell you! Or if you feel something should be dry cleaned, they will say hey we can save you some money by just laundering. Very honest people. No one better! This place got great reviews on other review sites, so we took two of my fiance's shirts to get pressed and to have my bathrobe repaired (seam had torn down the side). I was a bit concerned about the robe as it was my father's and I inherited it when he passed away nearly a decade ago and it was not in the best condition. Pros: Cheap: Under $2 per shirt and also a few bucks to repair the ripped seam. Cons: - Does not accept credit card payment under $10. Our bill was about $7 after tax, TheFiance told the clerk to just charge the $10 and they refused to it and with no ATMs near-by, this became problematic. Finally, the clerk did the "Just this one time" bit and charged for exact amount on the credit card -- but NO SIGNS are posted anywhere that there is a $10 minimum for credit. - The dress shirts, which were pressed for a wedding and another special occasion, we noticed were actually pressed with creases not part of the shirt and they pressed OVER the buttons so that there were button indentations on the shirt. It was like instead of straightening out the shirt to press it clean, if there was a crease, it was left. HOrrible pressing service. - They repaired the seam on the robe but left close to 1.5 inches of seam material on the inside, which was weird. There were also a lot of loose threads that were sewn into the seam and left dangling. It was like they had extra threading was stuck on someone's arm who was doing the sewing, those threads got stuck in the seam as it was being sewed and they didn't think to remove the threads. We will never go back to this place again. read more

I was quoted a price on the phone, than charged double that when I went to pick them up. Called a liar, and swore at. I find it interesting you feel compelled to explain about YOUR business. I have been a customer exclusively of Earls cleaners for 25 years. And never have I been treated poorly. I have always dealt with George prior to now! I NEVER asked for ANYTHING free. I simply tried to explain I was quoted differently on the phone. That's when this EMPLOYEE became irate!
