I have used this pub for a long time, over seven years in fact, and it used to be one of the best eating places in the area.
It was always full, no matter what night you went. Tonight it was empty as it was when we visited a couple of weeks ago.
After the experience tonight I will never go in again. The place is not worth one star, never mind five.
A couple of weeks ago I went in with a friend and there was no cask ale on and the comment was made by what I presumed at the time was the manager that they couldn't be bothered tonight, it will go back on in the morning
We left and went somewhere else as we felt the person was extremely rude.
Not wishing to judge the place, we have used it a lot over the years, on one bad experience, tonight, 10th December, three of us went back.
We ordered and paid for, our meals and bought a beer.
Starters arrived, very small, obviously shop bought and not as per the menu, and definitely not to the standard we had come to expect from the place. One of my colleagues went back to the bar. Unfortunately no cask ale again, it had gone off and was not going to be back on until the morning.
My colleague asked, very politely, to see the manager.
A person, who purported to be the owner, eventually appeared and aggressively asked, you got a problem pal? and then just walked away.
I have never seen such rudeness from anybody in a service business before. Tonight we refunded what we had paid and again left.
It is very apparent that The Earl of Strafford has lost its welcoming atmosphere and the ability to provide good food and service. I actually felt sorry for young lady that was serving behind the bar.
If you want poor service, overpriced, small portions, and poor food then visit.
If you value the quality of your dining experience then give this place a very wide berth. read more
